View Full Version : Testimony Service - Who Has It?

Do churches still have testimony service on a regular basis? We haven't had one in probably 20 years, only because there were a few people who tended to get very negative about two minutes into their "testimony", so we shut it down. Now if we have someone we want to give a report about, we ask them to, but we never have open public "testimony" service.

How about your church? Is this still the norm?

I only know of one church that does this on a regular basis. But then, the attendance is so low now that all 8 people could testify and only take up 10 minutes of service time.

Our church doesn't do it. (at least they haven't since we started going there in Sept) When someone has a testimony they want to share, they let the pastor know-- and he gives them a chance to share it.

This is so funny! I saw the title and was going to post "Not on your life" and then I saw who started the thread. Just wait until tonight. I want to testify, Sister!!

I know of several churches around here that regularly have testimony service, but also know of a lot that don't.

I was thinking that mainly testimony service is a practice still in place at smaller churches, which would explain why so many churches in IN still do this.

Oops, I have to correct that statement I made before. IF they can get all members to attend at the same time, they have 12 members. 8 who are regular in attendance. :(

You know what... let me correct my answer.

We have testimonies fairly often but the person leading the service calls on 2 or 3.

They don't leave it open for whoever to pop up like the old days but they have testimonies.

We stopped it due to too many loony testimonies. But sometimes folks are requested to give one.

Usually if something notable has happened, our pastor will ask someone (specifically) to give a testimony. Every now and then we have testimonies, but usually its "one person on this side", and "one person on that side"...

Every church has a few loonies, so I think it depends on who is present whether or not free rein is given.

We still have it whenever I feel to or the service is just right for it. Sometimes it is a couple times a month and when we have testimonies generally I don't preach the saints all preach and it is a high service generally. It is not hard to have 2 hours of testimonies here but it is not dead.

I used to love it when it was good. But when it got bad, it was really really bad. So and so's kids were backslid and no one from church had visited them....yada yada yada. :lol

Well, it's good to know that we're not the only ones who have discontinued it. I was just wondering.

We have it almost every service.

The young people are also involved, and that makes it really worthwhile!

When I turn these folks loose WOW they furthermore do some preaching women and all.:sly Some of my ladies testify better than some preachers preach. The jump and shout and run and buck and snort. It will be at least 2 hours if I turn them loose.

What I would do if I pastored a church. I would have 2 times a month. Someone that has gone through something big. Someone that has gained success give a short story of their experience.

I would review it with them ahead of time.

To show folks this christian walk is experienced by the church member..

Just to let everyone know....Tamor did NOT testify or wave her hanky tonight in service. However at one point, she was just about to shockamoo; I could see it all over her. She must have supressed it though, because it never came on out.:cheer:cheer

I've heard them all, trust me. When I was a kid, we had about 35 in my home church and at testimony time, they would absolutely WAIT until everyone who was old enough to put a sentence together got up and said something! I remember my brother testifying at five years old about God delivering him from a life of sin. It was so funny; how much sin had he done???? We knew he would be a preacher.

We have testimony service if it is a youth service. Otherwise the pastor will call on someone if they have a praise report.

The funniest testimony I ever heard was a woman testifying how God spared her from severe injury as she was lying in bed. Her exact words were, "If it weren't for the back of my husband's head, the ceiling would have dropped right on my face!"
