Would you sever a friendship or familial relationship with someone based on differences in religion or doctrinal beliefs?
Timmy

Nope. Why would I? Nobody has promised me eternal life if I forsake my family. Nobody has told me to "hate" them.
Several have dropped me from FB because of my views, though.
well it depends on how much they beat me upside my head with their beliefs.....or how immoral they act around my family.
For instance I have a close family member who just thought it was cute and funny to use the N word insestantly. I explained in no uncertain terms that this behavior was simply not allowed at all, not even a little bit. Not even via changing from the N word to some other code word (wink wink nod nod). it came to a very clear very distinct stand off and the other person blinked.
we get along quite well now. they dont talk or act that way. i dont seek to control others, but i will not under any circumstances allow immoral behavior around my family.

That makes sense. But the question wasn't about immoral behavior. It was about differences in religion or doctrinal beliefs. Just sayin'. ;)
As long as they are civil about it why would I cut them off?

I Corinthians 5:11
But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.
Romans 16:17
Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them who cause divisions and offenses contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; and avoid them.
14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness?
I Corinthians 6:14-17
And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people.Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you.
Ephesians 5:11
And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.
II John 1:10-11
If there come any unto you, and bring not this doctrine, receive him not into your house, neither bid him God speed: For he that biddeth him God speed is partaker of his evil deeds.
Jeremiah 23:32
Behold, I am against them that prophesy false dreams, saith the Lord, and do tell them, and cause my people to err by their lies, and by their lightness; yet I sent them not, nor commanded them: therefore they shall not profit this people at all, saith the Lord.
Psalm 31:6
I have hated them that regard lying vanities: but I trust in the Lord.
Psalm 139:19-22
Surely thou wilt slay the wicked, O God: depart from me therefore, ye bloody men.
For they speak against thee wickedly, and thine enemies take thy name in vain.
Do not I hate them, O Lord, that hate thee? and am not I grieved with those that rise up against thee?I hate them with perfect hatred: I count them mine enemies.
Psalm 1
Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.
But his delight is in the law of the Lord; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.

LOL. yea, your iquit.
i have muslim friends. I have atheist friends.
I have friends who dont do church and I dont really know what exactly their belief system is.
We dont compromise our values, nor are we pushy and make demands of others. We have had the opertunity to share our views in a positive way.
No, talking to people of different stripes makes me a better, more well-rounded person. I learn things from everybody. I cut myself off from abuse from any group or person if it gets too bad. (I have a fault in that I sometimes let it go on too long before I remove myself.)

(I have a fault in that I sometimes let it go on too long before I remove myself.)i have always done this, too--but see that it is part of picking up ones cross to remain outwardly unaffected by this; to not take them to heart. After all, they are returning evil for good, right? Trust that everyone around you, in this scenario, is struck by your witness--your demeanor--here. This is witnessing, to me; not backing someone up into a corner to get them to go to your church and get 'saved.'
I try to get along with everyone I can. If we go our separate ways, it wont be because I got rid of them. It will be because they got rid of me...LOL

Here is a perfect example of how religion is abused as a means of justifying bigotry and hatred toward other people who may be different in terms of religion and doctrine.

He quoted out of context. I can't stand when they do that. For people that claim to LOVE "the truth," you'd think they would want to handle the word of God more carefully.

Would you sever a friendship or familial relationship with someone based on differences in religion or doctrinal beliefs?
A general response would be 'no'.
