Has Facebook become a tool to proselytize without calling it that?

The Church of Me!

What do you think?

Some seem to blatantly use it, while others seem more subtle...

I heard a report the other day that FB has excellent facial recognition and that the FBI uses FB more than their own files.

I've noticed that some church people on FB don't seem to want to actually talk to me. They seem more like they wanted to friend me so they can post at me. LOL!

Most use it for passive drive by evangelism.

The telephone makes it just as easy. :)

"Brother, I have a 'prayer request' to share with you..."

Gossip!

I am not sure if FB has any impact on the church. I have never seen any prosletyzing on FB but then maybe it is something done in conservative OP circles that I am not in.

On the other hand I think the internet has been a great blessing for the church. Without spending hardly any money at all a church can present to anybody searching a wealth of information and ministry that just a few years ago would have cost thousands upon thousands of dollars in printing cost, radio or tv airtime, etc, etc.

Facebook gets annoying. Especially when someone knows info and pretends he doesn't to cause drama on someone's wall and on Facebook forums.

Makes sense. Beats those pictures down at the post office no one looks at.

Bingo! We've had a number of visitors come to our church because of what's been called "FB Evangelism."

There's a UPC church which uses FB as an outreach tool as well, and they've seen good results from it.

lol... and I bet pastors can get a good message for Sunday morning just by reading FB posts! :heeheehee

Hey... you don't even need to say the Lord told me *____* anymore... just say you saw it on facebook!

I'm sure there are many positive aspects of FB witnessing, and social media... but our family has decided that the side effects, drama, and negativity that comes from FB interactions is just not worth any positives there may be. And we do suffer negatively because of not being on FB, because family forget to communicate events and pictures with us anymore - because they are on FB and we are not. :( Yet.... my life is for the most part peaceful, and quiet, and that is worth a lot to us!
