I must be morbid, because I thought this was hilarious. Please pray for me!!
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. - A 21-year-old man got the ride of a lifetime when his electric wheelchair became lodged in the grille of a semitrailer and was pushed down a highway for several miles at about 50 mph.
Ben Carpenter was unharmed but was taken to a hospital as a precaution. He had been secured to his wheelchair by a seat belt. Carpenter, who has muscular dystrophy, told a television station that he thought he might not make it through the ride.
"I was probably thinking that this is going to keep going and not stop anywhere, 50 or 60 miles somewhere," he told WWOD-TV of Grand Rapids.
Ben Carpenter's father, Donald, told The Associated Press that his son had started to cross at an intersection Wednesday afternoon in Paw Paw, about 140 miles west of Detroit. The light changed to green while his son was in front of a semi, which started moving.
The wheelchair's handles became lodged in the grille, the father said, and the wild ride started.
Motorists called 911 on their cell phones, and a pair of undercover police officers who happened to be nearby saw what was happening. They pulled the truck over and told the disbelieving driver, Donald Carpenter said.
The chair was undamaged except for losing most of the rubber on its wheels, he said.
"It's a very bad story that ended very well," he said. "We're just thrilled that he's still around."

If not for our culture being spoon fed images in comedies that treat this stuff as something to laugh at, I doubt you would have found this funny. Imagine the terror he went through and the danger he was in...the mortal danger

I don't listen to this kind of music anymore or even ride motorcycles, but for some reason after reading this post, I was reminded of listening to Jimi Hendrix Experience album and getting on a motorcycle and riding with my boyfriend in college and being scared to death to go over the hills at a high rate of speed....Now I kind of get around like this:
:IAM .....Well, not quite, but that was a long time ago.

This is an unbelieveable story. I happen to work for a large school district in administration for students receiving special education services. This news story came out yesterday and got passed around the office. We were laughing at the thought of what could be going through this boy's head.....and just in awe that nothing bad happened. Quite remarkable.

Prax.....there is no doubt that the first thought that goes through someone's head when they hear this...is one of sheer shock that it happened and NOTHING happened to the kid. Put all that aside....and think back....after the fact (one of those...we'll laugh about this later)...the very sight of a wheelchair being pushed by a semi...going 50 miles per hour. Scary and dangerous...absolutely. Funny as well....it's not an everyday sight.
It is a truely remarkable story.
