Doubt I'll get much backing on this, but it's ridiculous that, where I work, the mom's get 60 days paid maternity leave while the fathers only get 5 days paid paternity leave.

All this talk about equality, yet men are given little to no time to help after a baby has been born.

This is when I wish I was self employed.

I agree, but you're lucky you get even that.

I very much agree with you! :nod
I feel it is just as important for the
daddy to be home with that new baby
for a while, as it is for the mama.

Canada has a program in place so both mothers and fathers can get paid parental leave when a child is born or adopted. The fact that you are getting a week here in the US is pretty amazing considering the fact that most employers don't even do that.

It's called misandry, the under the rug bias against men in the world.

My wife is due with our third this Christmas, and I recently began a new job (at the end of August) and so, in the interview, I let them know about the impending birth of my son. I informed them I would be needing time off.

My boss, a woman, who also has children, said she understood, and with a chuckle, mentioned how I was only going to need a couple of days.

Well, my intention is to take a week's vacation. When he comes, my wife and I will be also taking care of our four year old and our two year old. She needs me to be home so she can focus on the newborn. But they don't get it.

So I guess we'll see what happens.
