View Full Version : A Belated Merry Christmas & Surgery
I was planning on wishing people a Merry Christmas & give an update on how good God is, but got sidetracked upon hearing news I will be needing surgery!
God is moving in our Church in awesome ways, we grew 30% last year & in a Revival with Eli Hernandez in November, we had 5 healings, one of which was my wife!
My oldest daughter is 17 & in Grade 11 & taking some Grade 12 courses, as well as teaching Grade 8 Drama. Her Drama Teacher said that, "she saw leadership in her back in grade 9 & doesn't allow just anyone to take Drama Leadership (10-15 were chosen) & she is doing great! She has her learners.
Alanna is 15 & is in Senior Choir & Senior Band playing the flute!
She also teaches Piano to those in grade 2 & 3.
Ryan is 13 & in grade 7 & is doing great, he put a per in challenging why the theory of Evolution is taught as fact instead of theory & showed the differences between Evolution & Creation.
All three are praise singers as well as being involved in other areas of ministry!
If she can swing it, we want to send Kristin on YOM Trip.
Back to my surprise surgery, I woke up at 3 AM in the morning a few months back with my heart pounding & soreness in my jaw.
I shrugged it off, but I had them a little more frequent & finally went to the Doctor in November.
Aside from lecturing me that I am not the Doctor, he sent me for a heart stress test (just a few days later) about 5 minutes into the test the Cardiac Technician stopped the test & asked me to lie down, they gave me Nitro spray & sent me to a Cardiologist & gave me Prescription for Nitro Spray.
I saw the Cardiologist & she said my EKG was suspect when under a load (stress) but at rest it was normal sinus rhythm.
She ordered an Angiogram with Angioplasty if needed.
They wheeled me into the Cath Lab which I swear was where they kept slabs of meat it was so cold.
Shot the dye in me & consulted with other Doctors & said, "you need Open Heart Bypass Surgery.
Due to complications, multiple narrowing of arteries, narrowing of arteries at branches, I will need 7 bypass's!
The good news? I haven't had a Heart Attack, though I have angina, my heart is strong & good, it is just that the plumbing is plugged!
Seeing as I am stable, I am on a two to three month waiting list for the Surgery.
When I asked why it was plugged when my Cholesterol level was normal over the years, they answered, "you have bad genes!"
I still am Worship leader, & give everyone a "Heart Attack in Church as if the Holy Ghost is moving & he has been moving, I jump up & down & last Sunday ran around the Church!
LOL! God is good!
God can heal me, or give me the courage to go through the Surgery!
Interesting enough, when my Pastor & his wife came to pick I & my wife after the Angiogram, the Pastors wife shared a dream she had last spring.
A large man stood over me & reached out & touched me, & I had a Heart Attack. When she saw this, she said, "why are you doing this? What is going on?"
She said he responded, "I am testing him!"
I am in God's hands!
For the past two Sundays we have Baptized 4 people, two each Sunday!
A nice way to start the year!:thumbsup
Wow...Interesting stuff. Nothing like genes messing up a good low cholesterol diet
I'd like to hear the conclusion, if there was any, of what Ryan did in regard to evolution challenged as fact...

Thanks for logging in and letting us know how you are doing. I certainly will be praying for your health and upcoming surgery!
God bless and take care! Keep us posted.
Hi PO, will do! We had another great service yesterday & baptized one more in Jesus Name!
All 5 we have baptized this year have gotten the Holy Ghost & every Sunday in January, we have had more then the week before!
Awesome liberty in the Spirit in our services.
I do recognize that while it is great having new ones coming to God, getting Baptized & filled with the Holy Ghost is great, making disciples who will in turn reach out unto others is the real key to success!
I know that they have streamlined Open Heart Surgery nowadays.
At VGH where I will have my Surgery, they have 4-6 OR's just dedicated to Cardiac Surgeries & they do two open heart surgeries a day in each one!
Before the second Surgery is completed in the afternoon, the morning patient is already extubated & sitting up & talking!
The next day, you sit on the edge of the bed, the third day, you are sitting in a chair eating.
The fourth day you are walking the hallways.
The fifth day you are climbing stairs & going home!
4-6 weeks you are driving again!
Not something I am looking forward to but I personally know a few people that have had the surgery & they are doing fine!

Well, I talked to the Cardiac Surgeon Friday & they set a date for my open heart bypass surgery for Thursday March 27 just 5 days away!:banghead
I have developed atrial fibrillation or afib which they think is because of the stress on the heart & should be resolved by the surgery.:wheelchair
Should take from between 4-6 hours with a 5-7 day stay in hospital & a 4-6 week recovery where I should return to 80-90% with 100% recovery within a year!:happydance
Whew, too many numbers!:blink

I somehow missed this entire thread until now. I will be praying for your surgery this Thursday. Your case is a perfect picture of the pros and cons of your socialized medicine which is where the USA is headed. On the one hand you personally won't pay anything for this very expensive surgery but on the other hand the three months you had to wait for it may have done some damage it seems by your post.
In any case my thoughts and prayers are with you. I have very bad genes when it comes to heart issues as the men on my moms side of the family have a widespread history of heart disease and strokes.I try not to live in fear of that but as I get older it does weigh on my mind. I remember hearing a doctor once say that all of the effort in the world to lower ones chloestoral might extend your life a bit but that genetics controls most of what happens to us health wise.
Thank you Mizpeh, God's peace & care is what I really need!
Thanks for the prayers!
CC1, thank you for the prayers, it is appreciated!
Just to clear up a few misconceptions, our system is classified as "socialized" when in reality, it is actually known as "Universal Health Care."
Doctors & Surgeons have banded together as an association & negotiate a contract with the Heath Authorities in each Province set up by the Government.
All fees & services are negotiated & a deal is reached, & the individual Doctors will usually Incorporate themselves & bill the Health Authority for services rendered.
Each Province is different with some Provinces having no MSP Premiums (Medical Service Plan) I don't agree with there being no fees, to my Province that has a $144 dollar a month premium for family coverage.
There is no co pay.
Is our system perfect? No, but every system has it's fault & in BC right now, there are private clinics being run where WCB, & private individuals can go & get care.
I have been in the private system & public & noticed only one difference.
In the Public system, they will let you sleep off your anesthesia, in the private they rush to awake you, otherwise it is the same care.
As for my situation, I have had opportunity to go sooner for surgery, I choose not to hoping for a miraculous healing & just not being in a rush to be split open.
My afib is a common arrhythmia for those in my age group.
It may be caused & aggravated by my underlying heart condition, or it may be age related & forever with me.
In either case, drugs are helping to keep it in check (beta blockers)
& if it still is a problem post surgery, there is minor surgery that can address it further up to & including having a pacemaker implanted.
Any way one looks at it, a person shouldn't have to lose their home to get life saving surgery.
Thanks for the prayers!

Thank you both! I have to be at the hospital at 5:45 am Thursday March 26!
God is good & he watches over his own!
Back home after a 10 day stay in hospital with 4 days in CCU & six on the ward!
It was a 7 1/2 hour operation with 7 bypasses!

Praise the Lord!
Now for the healing process----and therapy :)
My mother had a double bypass in 1990. She did well, but I recall all the physical therapy she went to every week. :statbike:
My Pastor had to rush me to emerg last Monday as it felt like I was severely short of breath.
They hooked me up to the Oxygen sensors & my Oxygen level in my blood was good.
Turns out it was a common side effect of Open Heart surgery "Water Retention" & the diuretic medication wasn't keeping up.
They have me an IV Push of Godzilla diuretics & the water went out out from me.
in a little under 36 hours, I lost 7 lbs!

Yikes! I just saw this. Hate you have had a complication but glad they figured it out and are treating you for it. Please keep us updated. I will continue to pray for complete healing as I am sure many others are doing.
10 weeks post surgery & am at 80% but my heart has no angina like symptoms & I am getting back my stamina.
I went back to leading song service in early May & gave some people a nervous fright when the Holy Ghost hit me & I started jumping up & down!
People that have seen me including my wife's Cardiologist are amazed at my recovery & God get's the glory!:happydance
My chest incision, while not hurting, feels weird at times when clothes are touching it, so I will pull my shirt away from my chest, or the seat belt as it "just feels weird" at times.
I go for a heart stress test on June 16th almost three months post surgery, to see if I am back at normal sinus rhythm & nothing else out of the ordinary.
Last month I had an EKG at my Cardiologist office & while it looked like a kid wrote it with a shaky hand, it is almost completely normal sinus rhythm.:thumbsup
I am being weaned off the heavy duty heart medication (rhythm drugs).
Thanks for the prayers!
PS, I think I will go celebrate with some nice BBQ food!:woot

Glad to hear your good report Ron! It is wonderful to walk with the Lord and to feel His great hand of protection around us. May the Lord continue to bless you as you continue the recovery journey :)
Thanks, God is good!
When I think about it, I HAD OPEN HEART SURGERY!!
God gave me the strength & the courage to go through it--he still does!
I know it sounds cliche but I actually felt the prayers of God's people being answered on my behalf!
