I am a QMRP for those with developmental disabilities. MRDD means Mental Retardation/Developmental Disabilities. As a Social Worker I had to get the certification to work with MRDD clients. Group homes, sheltered employment, ect...

This is more case management than counseling. I hope this explains it better. I think the term might be different for different states.

Sherri, has Brooksie's Barn closed???Nope, still going strong as far as I know. If it ever closes, we would love to buy it. We own the land beside it and the acre right behind it. We just bought the 4 acres and the house that Brooksie Sanderson used to live in beside the church. We are turning it into our Elisha House and using it to house ministers on sabbatical, or those who've been wounded and need restoration. It will be finished with remodeling in about two weeks, and we have a family of five waiting to move in.

I would love to have that big Brooksie's Barn someday for a youth center!! Have you heard something about it closing??????

Before I was forced on disability because of becoming legally blind, I was a Certified Nursing Assistant for over 25 years. I spent the last 2.5 years of my working career programming cell phones for Nextel. We had moved to a new area and the pay for a CNA was way lower than what was used to. And, I had decided that I needed a change. It was a nice change and I did enjoy it. But you did not ask for an essay, so I will hush and let someone else post now.

Public school teacher - Middle School ... entering 10th year.

WOW...my prayers are with you DAILY.

I spent 7 years teaching in the public school system and just couldn't take the NCLB *#@! any more. I was in an inner-city school -- tutored kids before school, worked through my lunch hours, tutored kids after school, ate-lived-and-breathed TCAP preparation. When I got my test results I was excited because I had kids who came into my class at the beginning of the year in the 7th percentile who scored in the 40th percentile....only to get fussed at because they didn't score at least 50th. I'm looking at the principal almost in tears saying, "Does nobody care how far these kids came in one year?" and he calmly tells me that Central Office doesn't really care how far they've come, only if they scored at least 50. My teaching ability was judged by the scores of these students.

So now I'm the principal of a private Christian school....I traded one whirlwind for another. In public school, the parents I worked with never showed up, didn't care how their kids were doing. CHRISTIAN parents, on the other hand, can gripe and complain like NOOOOBODY else! :sshhh

No, I'm UPC, but we do fellowship with them.

It's weird...for so many years there was this invisible line that you didn't cross...the church groups didn't fellowship. But now there seems to be a different generation coming up who actually enjoy getting together. I'm glad of that. These people were planning on spending eternity together but couldn't get along down here on earth. Strange, huh?

This little town that I live in (@ 50,000) reportedly has 47 Apostolic churches! You're bound to see SOMEONE who's holiness every time you go to the store. And yet nobody would speak.

Unfortunately, in most states, one snapshot [a state test], has become the benchmark of the learning process. This is a common gripe of many in the profession. Teachers are compelled to teach to one test while ignoring the whole child.

I taught 8 years in NYC ... and came to Houston last year. I've also realized kids are kids ... no matter the setting.

I am interested in getting a second master's in Educational Administration. Right now ... all that's on hold for many reasons. Hopefully, I can start next summer.

It's also one of the many reasons why my son is homeschooled.... It was never because the teachers... God always answered my prayers about giving my son the best teacher that taught the grade he was in when he was going to public school... But it was all about the stupid test they would take at the end of the year and getting those numbers high.... Teachers were bound in their creativity because the goofballs in administration...

DO you just HATE this song or like it?

Chim Chim Cheree

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shake 'ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that's lucky too

Now as the ladder of life
'As been strung
You may think a sweep's
On the bottommost rung

Though I spends me time
In the ashes and soot
In this 'ole wide world
There's no 'appier bloke

Up where the smoke is
All billered and curled
'Tween pavement and stars
Is the chimney sweep world

When the's 'ardly no day
Nor 'ardly no night
There's things 'alf in shadow
And 'alf way in light
On the roof tops of London
Coo, what a sight!

I choose me bristles with pride
Yes, I do
A broom for the shaft
And a broom for the flume

Though I'm covered with soot
From me 'ead to me toes
A sweep knows 'e's welcome
Wherever 'e goes

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
When you're with a sweep
You're in glad company

No where is there
A more 'appier crew
Than them wot sings
"Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!"
On the chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!

Here is a poem by William Blake about the Chimney Sweep...a little morbid, I would say.

http://www.repeatafterus.com/title.php?i=5988

A little black thing among the snow,
Crying "'weep! 'weep!" in notes of woe!
"Where are thy father & mother? say?"
"They are both gone up to the church to pray.

"Because I was happy upon the heath,
And smil'd among the winter's snow,
They clothed me in the clothes of death,
And taught me to sing the notes of woe.

"And because I am happy & dance & sing,
They think they have done me no injury,
And are gone to praise God & his Priest & King,
Who make up a heaven of our misery."

DO you just HATE this song or like it?

Chim Chim Cheree

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
A sweep is as lucky
As lucky can be

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-oo!
Good luck will rub off when
I shake 'ands with you
Or blow me a kiss
And that's lucky too

Now as the ladder of life
'As been strung
You may think a sweep's
On the bottommost rung

Though I spends me time
In the ashes and soot
In this 'ole wide world
There's no 'appier bloke

Up where the smoke is
All billered and curled
'Tween pavement and stars
Is the chimney sweep world

When the's 'ardly no day
Nor 'ardly no night
There's things 'alf in shadow
And 'alf way in light
On the roof tops of London
Coo, what a sight!

I choose me bristles with pride
Yes, I do
A broom for the shaft
And a broom for the flume

Though I'm covered with soot
From me 'ead to me toes
A sweep knows 'e's welcome
Wherever 'e goes

Chim chiminey
Chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee!
When you're with a sweep
You're in glad company

No where is there
A more 'appier crew
Than them wot sings
"Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!"
On the chim chiminey
Chim chim cher-ee
Chim cher-oo!

Here is a poem by William Blake about the Chimney Sweep...a little morbid, I would say.

http://www.repeatafterus.com/title.php?i=5988

A little black thing among the snow,
Crying "'weep! 'weep!" in notes of woe!
"Where are thy father & mother? say?"
"They are both gone up to the church to pray.

"Because I was happy upon the heath,
And smil'd among the winter's snow,
They clothed me in the clothes of death,
And taught me to sing the notes of woe.

"And because I am happy & dance & sing,
They think they have done me no injury,
And are gone to praise God & his Priest & King,
Who make up a heaven of our misery."

I like the songs and poems. I am quite interested in the historical apects of my trade. I have an English book by Benita Cullingford entitled British Chimney Sweeps: Five Centuries of Chimney Sweeping

Though the industry has matured in many countries, I hold an appreciation for the simplicity and camaraderie of sweeps around the world. I have swept chimneys in London, England and last year met 1500 sweeps from around the globe in a small village in the Italian Alps. It was a wonderful experience.

Do you write things about the party's inability to read and wicked depraved hearts OR are you so tired of being careful with your words on the job that you let it all hang out here?

Well, other people seem to go vague (example-I work for a large computer company, etc.) so I am never sure whether I should say I am an IBM employee or not. lol.

I'm kinda in the same boat as you, I am the only person that does exactly what I do, so other people look to me on how to do things... I'm not the smartest person in my field by any means, but I am the only one who does what I do, and we are usually going against internal security policies just to do our jobs (it is their fault for acquiring us without taking into consideration the nature of our business). Slowly but surely I am understanding which specific parts of the security policies we are breaking and can bring this up to management with my recommendations on how we should resolve them.

The bad news is there are no defined-processes for what I do, I make it up as I go... the good news is that I can define the processes, deliverables, etc. for my job myself. :)

I feel for you there! I know that in my case it takes more work to explain everything I am doing to someone who would fill in for me than it would to just cover any emergencies that come up myself. They do want me to "cross-train" a new guy but since I just wrapped up two projects I don't have a lot to give him at the moment.

It isn't too bad though, not like when I was on call for networking problems for about 10 years. lol. Nothing like the pressure of knowing that if you don't fix the problem, 1000 people will not be able to work (therefore will be getting paid for nothing) when they get in the next day to keep you motivated. The only perk there was every sales guy in the world wanted to buy you lunch so you would consider his product the next time you needed something.

Do you write things about the party's inability to read and wicked depraved hearts OR are you so tired of being careful with your words on the job that you let it all hang out here?

Very curious... cause I have yet to read something from a judge that comes close to the kind of writing seen in your posts. What gives? :girlpopcornYes, you did mean offense, otherwise you wouldn't have asked the question!

There's a difference (as you should know) between writing posts in a forum(which is more comparable to conversation) and other kinds of writing. Of course, certain people here on AFF have this tendency to read into what other people write instead of taking what they write to mean exactly and only what's written.

Here's a sample of what I write (the names intentionally left out) - this was from a decision recently upheld by the U. S. District Court for the Western District of New York (meaning the Court agreed with the judge):

The value of a treating physician’s opinion lies in its objectivity as distinguished from the claimant’s own subjective self-report (20 CFR 404.1529). In this case, Dr. **** apparently never saw or treated the claimant and the treating nurse practitioner based her opinions upon the claimant’s own subjective, self-reported limitations. Therefore, these opinions are not accorded controlling or extra weight. Further, they are not consistent with or supported by the great weight of objective evidence that is to the contrary. The only other opinion of disability is from physician’s assistant *************, dated September 8, 2004. In that opinion he indicated the claimant “is unable to work because of his chronic disability.” This opinion is, at best, uninformative, and is contradicted by his supervising physician Dr. ******* (Exhibit 16F, pages 3-4).

The greater weight of objective evidence supports a finding of mild, partial disability as discussed in the prior decision concerning the evidence at Exhibits 2F-7F. Initially, an MRI in August 2000 indicated only mild degenerative narrowing with a small central extrusion (Exhibit 5F, page 13) but no facet pain, a normal neurological examination, and negative straight leg raising on examination.

The claimant displayed poor effort and symptom exaggeration in a January 2001 functional capacity evaluation and, even then, was found to have a capacity for sedentary to light work (Exhibit 2F).

The claimant’s pain management specialist suggested a residual functional capacity for less than sedentary work during a series of three epidural injections from May 2001 to August 2001 (Exhibit 5F). However, there is no evidence of any follow-up. The physical therapist, on the other hand, reported in October 2001 that the claimant’s symptoms had improved (Exhibit 2F).

Orthopedic surgeon Dr. ****** also noted the MRI of August 2000 as showing L4-L5 degenerative disc disease with only mild neural compression. Dr. ******’s treatment notes for the period June 2000 through December 2003 initially indicated a moderate to marked partial disability; but over time this improved to a mild to moderate partial disability that was stable in August 2002 and permanent by December 2003 (Exhibit 3F). A September 2004 report based on a clinical examination demonstrated “no acute distress; he has full flexion, extension, and lateral bending. There is some mild pain with bending to the left. [He is] neurologically intact [in the] upper and lower extremities. He ambulates with [a] normal gait. He has tenderness over the SI joint bilaterally and positive Patrick’s test bilaterally” (Exhibit 16F).

Workers’ Compensation independent medical examiner Dr. **** performed detailed examinations of the claimant. His findings indicate mild partial disability in June 2000 (Exhibit 4F) and moderate partial disability with some permanency in October 2001 (Exhibit 6F). At that time, he reported lifting and carrying limitations not to exceed 25 pounds, noting the claimant engaged in routine child care, including the feeding and changing of an infant.

Dr. **********, also an orthopedic surgeon, examined the claimant on April 16, 2004, noting a normal gait, heel and toe walking without difficulty, full lumbosacral spine range of motion with tenderness and pain on extension and straight leg raising. His conclusion was also a mild to moderate partial disability (Exhibit 16F, pages 5-6).

Dr. ************* examined the claimant at the request of the Administration in April 2002. He noted full range of motion throughout with only mild left sciatica. He found the claimant had only mild limitations in bending and lifting (Exhibit 7F).

Chan? Do you talk to people in real life the way you talk to people on the forum?

Here's what I see... You are very capable at sumurizing the facts for the judge. The piece does not have to be persuasive becuase it's not argument but rather its the decision made by a judge who isn't leaving room for argument.

On the other hand; your posts on the forum are neither friendly (comparable to the way most folks have a conversation) nor persuasive BECAUSE you tend to ATTACK the person you are posting a response to.

You actually may have great arguments from time to time; or contrary points of view that we should take into consideration. However, it is hard for most to be persuaded by someone who is attacking them. And it is hard to read a post with someone being attacked.

After awhile people stop paying attention to what posters who always attack have to say... imo

Benjamin Franklin discovered this in his life at a fairly young age. His autobiography makes for fascinating reading.

Hey, maybe its becuase I am a lowly woman that I am offended by your posts personally and on behalf of others on many occasions. Maybe I am totally wrong in my assessment. Maybe I am just as wrong as you for posting this.

But consider that there might be a more persuasive way or at least a less offensive way to post. After all, anyone who can write for a judge, is capable of writing in a way that speaks to the rest of us too. :haloplug

:haloplug

Sister, I don't respond to your posts very often, but I have to say you have hit the nail squarely on the head. :)

*unnecesarily offensiveThere's nothing offensive about it. You should know the difference.

** critical attitude towards playmates in the sandboxNo, it's a simple statement. It's not your place to ascribe motives to me or anyone else.

***posts like these may be called for once in a blue moon; but shouldn't be normal sandbox ettiquette. imo ;)Reading things into other people's posts and trying to attribute motives to them based on such reading is never called for.

Chan? Do you talk to people in real life the way you talk to people on the forum? That depends on the person and what he or she says.

Here's what I see... You are very capable at sumurizing the facts for the judge. The piece does not have to be persuasive becuase it's not argument but rather its the decision made by a judge who isn't leaving room for argument.Well, actually it does have to be an argument because it potentially could end up being the government's arguments in District or higher federal courts

On the other hand; your posts on the forum are neither friendly (comparable to the way most folks have a conversation) nor persuasive BECAUSE you tend to ATTACK the person you are posting a response to.Attacking what people say is not attacking the person. If you can't be bothered to read what people write and take it to mean exactly as written instead of trying to interpret it, read between the lines and attribute motives to them, then don't respond to posts.

You actually may have great arguments from time to time; or contrary points of view that we should take into consideration. However, it is hard for most to be persuaded by someone who is attacking them. And it is hard to read a post with someone being attacked. There you go again attributing motives! Attacking what someone writes is NOT attacking the person!!!!!!

After awhile people stop paying attention to what posters who always attack have to say... imoThen stop saying things that are deserving of attack.

Benjamin Franklin discovered this in his life at a fairly young age. His autobiography makes for fascinating reading. Ah, yes, the guy who supposedly attached a key to a kite string and stood out in a lightning storm.

Hey, maybe its becuase I am a lowly woman that I am offended by your posts personally and on behalf of others on many occasions. Maybe I am totally wrong in my assessment. Maybe I am just as wrong as you for posting this.Maybe instead of trying to attribute motives to people you should just read what people write and take what's written to mean exactly and only what's written.

But consider that there might be a more persuasive way or at least a less offensive way to post. After all, anyone who can write for a judge, is capable of writing in a way that speaks to the rest of us too. :haloplugAgain, maybe you should just stop trying to attribute motives to people and stop trying to look for things written between the lines.

Chan,

Do you sit in on trials in a courtroom? Does it make a difference, especially with a jury, in the way in which a lawyer argues a case?

I think Newman has a fair point about the way you converse with people on this site. I don't always agree with what you say but I respect your point of view which you usually articulate well with scriptural support but your presentation leaves something to be desired at times.

Chan,

Do you sit in on trials in a courtroom? Does it make a difference, especially with a jury, in the way in which a lawyer argues a case? No, I don't sit in the hearing room. I do, however, listen to the recording of the hearing testimony (it's a non-adversarial proceeding: there's no one from the Administration arguing against the claimant). The only difference the attorney's (or other representative's) argument style makes is whether he or she is asking "leading questions" or is asking questions about things that aren't supported by the evidence.

I think Newman has a fair point about the way you converse with people on this site. I don't always agree with what you say but I respect your point of view which you usually articulate well with scriptural support but your presentation leaves something to be desired at times. That I don't practice social niceties or try to be "diplomatic" in how I say things here - particularly to people who seem to have this incessant need to read into what people post and attribute motives to them - would be an understatement. However, a lot of it isn't in what I post but in how people choose to interpret it - particularly in their choice to assign motives and attitudes to my posts.

I would like to read a reply from Newman as well but what you are asking is very time consuming. :girlpopcornNo doubt it will be time consuming. But if she's going to claim I hold certain views, I'm going to insist that she provides evidence.

I just accepted a position today at a local nursing home where I'll be able to work whatever days I please, which works well with school. I don't have to work weekends or holidays if I choose not to, but working for them will give me more money due to more hours than working with the nursing agency alone.

Cool! Be sure they stick to the agreement, and, if they are the typical nursing home, they will be calling often to beg you to work (I should know, I was the staffing coordinator for two different nursing homes for several years.)

That is a good deal for you and for them. It removes the middle man (pirates) of the staffing agency, thus making vital communication between you and the facility much easier.

I am starting to look around and see where I might like to apply for work here in another two or three months. I only have two more weeks of class, one more week of clinicals, then I am off to my ten week preceptorship, and I get to do that with my own nurse practitioner at the clinic where she works. I am sooooo looking forward to finally getting to work as a real nurse!

I just registered for fall classes so I can get the clinicals done that I dropped last semester. Working as a 'casual nurse' helps me in that I don't have to work if I don't want to, only that I have to work one shift a month, and my supervisor said if that were even a problem, talk to her and not worry about it.

Another good thing is, I'm only taking less than a $2 per hour pay cut but I get three or four times the hours available to choose from.

It's gonna stink getting paid every other week though. Through the agency, I'm paid two days after working a shift!

I still get to work via the agency, however, as there is another nursing home I work at frequently, and even though it's owned by the same company, they allow me to work there. I did talk to the DON today, however, about a casual nurse position there and she said SURE! So I might end up taking that before the year is out....depending on how school is going and hours at the other place.

I love my job, but it's not as fulfilling to me as I dream. I'm thinking I might want to get into intensive care now!

Mr Pope,

I'm so glad you joined... it's clear that your authority extends in a direct unbroken line through history from the Apostles to yourself... no other can make this claim or provide as much documentation as you can to prove this...

Given that... What is your opinion regarding people who claim to be ministers speaking on authority of God, who do not recognize your documented authority throughout history? If God can preserve the Bible throughout the ages, could he not also preserve an unbroken chain of authority back to the Apostles? They claim they do not follow you because you have went down the wrong path... but wouldn't that mean that anytime someone disagrees with something that they could start their own religion? Maybe that is why there are 23,438,117,572,991 different flavors of Christianity? And if they each believe that they have the truth and no others do, does that not give me a 1 in 23,438,117,572,991 chance of salvation?

Do you pronounce them "deceived" or "deluded" for plucking their mantle of authority out of thin air?

That is what they do when people do not recognize their authority and unlike you they do not have any documentation to back them up... If people who do not respect or recognize their spiritual authority over others are deceived... then are they not deceived for not recognizing yours? For no church organization is perfect... but which is more likely to have a direct line of spiritual authority... one that is 2000 years old or one that is 100 years old?

By the way, I visited your house a few years ago... would it be too much to ask that you give some of the treasures overflowing there back to the cultures you stole them from?

Respectfully,

Brad

You really want her to post evidence of that statement?

I have no easy access to what you have posted prior, nor desire to carry this conversation further.

This statement has nothing to do with anything you believe. It's just a statement and needs no proof of evidence.

I stand at polar opposite of you on the status of women issues.

Again, this needs no evidence, because regardless what you believe in regard to women issues, it's her opinion that she is opposite of you. No evidence needed.

On the other hand; your posts on the forum are neither friendly (comparable to the way most folks have a conversation) nor persuasive BECAUSE you tend to ATTACK the person you are posting a response to.

You want evidence of this? How about in the mouth of two or three witnesses? We already have that. About a dozen, at least.

All in all, it's still the opinion of another, and since when do opinions need facts? Having facts and evidence means it's no longer an opinion.

I have been a nurse for 17 years, 6 as a LPN and 11 as an RN. I have an AAS in nursing and have been debating whether I want to return for my BSN or not. I also watch (along with my husband) two of our four grandchildren 2-5 days a week. Our daugther-in-law (the one we babysit for) is a beautician and is taking classes to become an RN. My husband started out as an orderly and has been an LPN for over 30 years.

Sorry for being so long winded.

Wonderful!!

I have been a LPN for three years and a RN for 6 months. I work in a hospital near where I live and love it, after doing LTC while I was a LPN.

I am taking time off from school but plan on starting the BSN program this fall, part-time. I have thought of doing travel nursing in a few years after I get the BSN finished. I've never really been anywhere, so this would be a great opportunity for me to see the world! LOL!

I guess some people really like doing the 3 or 4 month terms of travel but I have a friend that's doing a 2 or 2 1/2 year stint in Alaska and she can't wait to get out. She's in her 50's and she said the cold isn't sitting well with her health.

I'd only do 3-6 month stints. Places I'd like to see include Seattle, San Diego, Phoenix, SLC, Denver, Houston, and Billings.

You should hear me talk at work!!!

"So, Dr. Smith, should 333 bed 1 have a TTE before his cath and have the MRI tomorrow on his LLQ? And did you see his H&H results as to a possible GI bleed? His potassium is low so I'll need an order for a K rider also. O2 sats are 95. Respers are shallow. BP is still in the 80's. Let me know if you want me to infuse FFP when he returns."

My documentation is even worse! But I believe in CYB! If you don't document, it didn't happen!

Yeah. Sometimes I feel like a cop or FBI agent......LOL! I love talking in code!!

I got so many jobs..I own a maintenace company and do apartment "turnarounds" Painting plastering repairs etc.

I do hallway/laundry room cleaning on several multi unit apartment buildings.

I own some rental properties of my own that I mangage and maintain.

I do int/exterior repaints.

I am on staff at our church as an assistant and as worship leader and do much of the maintenance items needed.

I deliver and set electric power chairs to patients in a 100 mile radius from home here. i alos go to repair them when they break down.

My son is afraid that once his wife becomes a nurse she'll be talking with my husband and I and he won't know what we're talking about.

U B BUSY!

That sounds like me a few years ago... Full-time chimney sweep, part-time painter, property manager for others, owner and property manager of another 15 units...

Today I am nearly out of the rental biz and do chimneys only, but volunteer for EMT/Fire. (still 70 hrs a week in my busy season)

Sounds like my husband when we were pastoring. While he was pastoring, he had a computer business and we had rental properties and he worked full time on top of that. During a good deal of that time we were constantly "putting out fires" pertaining to a lawsuit and being harrassed constantly. Now he "only" works about 55 hours a week at his job and I try to remind him to slow down. After that bout with cancer last year and he has high cholesterol, he needs to take care of himself. Now, he spends quite a bit of time playing computer games on the weekends and when things don't always get done, I try to remind myself that it's quite alright!

I am mostly French Canadian. But, I don't know my whole family history so there may or may not be some Injun in there.
