View Full Version : Missed Jury Summons
Esther

I have rescheduled my jury summons twice which is the maximum in a 6 month period. I forgot about the summons until I got up this morning.
My husband said get dressed they may come and get you at the door.
I have emailed them as that is my last resource since the phone is recorded message and I can't contact a living body.
Anyone else have any suggestions.
P.S. They lock the doors 15 minutes after your due time.

Jury Duty is the only right that you can be arrested for not taking advantage of.
But... I do think that Jury Duty is very important though. Especially when one understands the concept of Jury Nullification. But don't mention that phrase while you are still in the jury pool or you will be eliminated.
Here is some excellent reading on the subject.

But... back to the subject...
The jury system is last power the people have when all other checks & balances have been abused.
When the law of the land goes against it's given authority then the jury has the right... yea even the duty... to judge the law.
At a jury trial, these days, you will be told that you are not here to judge the law... you are here to judge whether this person broke the law as it stands.
2 words... "they lie"
A juror can judge the law and hold the law prisoner by withholding a guilty verdict and entering not guilty.
Of course if they get even an inkling that you are aware of your power, authority and responsibility as a juror you will not be picked.

It's not enforced out here. The time I had an assult rifle at my face and was cleared of any type of contraband, The officer took my drivers license to "run" it, NO WARRANTS!!! not even a bench warrant!!!

Why did they put a rifle to your head?
That doesn't make sense to someone from Texas. Is that how Ca does things???

OH, I guess that was TMI. I can not get into further detail at the moment. It had nothing to do with jury duty. :)

You could be prosecuted and perhaps the only reason you have not yet is they never get to your pool to begin with.
Last year I tried to get out of it because of my health issues, but they did not accept that without a doctors order. By the time I found out it was too late. I called in and discovered that they had not even gotten to my lot yet before they had picked a jury so it was no big deal

I thought I did...one time I got a summons to appear...they picked the jury before my date to show so they did not call my name and did not know I did not show up :-)

hmm... the time I went, did roll call... I made it all the way to the courtroom... introduced to the D.A. ....heard what the guy was being accused of... then they started selecting people.. and after hours of nonsense, they dismissed half the room...

Right, but there are several jury pools they choose from. The days you did NOT show up they might have selected a jury before it was your day to show up for the selection process
