Check out this website. It's a great Church on the Gatlinburg side of Knoxville. I have preached there numerous times. It's a revival church with many new souls. Awesome church! www.newlifeknox.org

The church already mentioned looks great on the website although I have no personal knowledge of it.
However, a group of strangers from different parts of the country known to each other through GNC got together in Gatlinburg about 4 years ago. We visited Bro. Carpenter's church in Marysville, Tennessee (a scenic 1 hour ride from Gatlinburg) on a Wednesday night.
The midweek church service was great, the people friendly and the preaching memorable.
Fellowship before and after; divine! Thanks St Matt (who provided the kool aid) :) and his family, Servant and his family; HO and Foreverblessed for a great memory. And Lady Rev too who joined the women later that week for that ill-fated raft ride down the river... :killinme

I am from there. There are several oneness churches you can go to. There are small ones and large ones. There is one a few miles from Gatlinburg in Sevierville. There is the one in Maryville which is awesome! Then there is my home church in Knoxville. There are ALJC and UPC churches. The NewLife Knoxville is a good UPC church I know some people that went there. Check out the UPCI.org and ALJC.org

Oh - if they're looking for a tv-free ALJC or UPCI church in Tennessee - the best bet would probably be just to drive out of Gatlinburg up into the mountains and find the first little Church of Jesus Christ Holiness group or any little free-will Pentecostal church building and go there. They might pass you a rattlesnake while you were singing "He Set Me Free", but at least you wouldn't have any tv's...:killinme:killinme
Truly, the church I mentioned is on the Gatlinburg side of Knoxville - it is a UPC church. There is great worship, great music, great preaching, and you'll probably get to see some baptized and filled with the Holy Ghost while you're there.

there is, I'm not sure where but my cousins daugher is going off to school somewhere in that area of the country and they were out there looking around and trying out churches....well, they ran in to an obviously pente/apo woman at walmart I think and they asked her about church...the lady raved on and on about how great her church was etc.
my cousin, with all her tact (not) made a crack about handling snakes - totally meaning it as a joke..
the lady got real mad and proceeded to give my cousin the what for - b/c they WERE a snake handling church...
they left there as soon as they could..
I would have LOVED to have been there

Ain't one. The only one I know of is a Bro Smith in Maryville, and I am not sure of his standing amongst his peers. You can drive about 2 hours up to Bristol, TN and find a good church. You can drive about 3 hours west and find a few churches in the outer Nashville area.
Ask Bro Epley or Bishop1. Between the 2 of them, they know every soul that has ever named the name of Jesus. :killinme

Then, as I said earlier, he'll have to go up in the hills and handle the rattlesnakes. He's not going to find one of those there. God bless him much and give him a new experience he will never forget. :hanky

I visited there once when we were on vacation quite a few years ago...I think they are "typical UPC standards for the area, if you are referring to 'dress codes' "......If you're UPC, you should like it.

When I am traveling, I thoroughly enjoy visiting different oneness churches. I do not go there to see what other people are wearing or think about dress standards. I go there to worship God and hear the word of God. When I am away from home for extended periods of time, I need desperately to hear the Word of God and have some fellowship. The last thing on my mind is going in to inspect someone's standards and I am not saying that is what Whole Hearted was talking about doing.

I think Wholehearted will proudly tell you that is exactly what he does.
He has posted before about his teenage son coming home with a report about how "worldly" the UPC kids are at the area camp or youth meetings.
Sounds like a "chip off the old block". No doubt his son will be carrying on dad's fine tradition of posting holier than thou missives some day.

We must all be careful in how we bring up our children.........It's an individual walk with God, but so many of the children who grew up with the holier than thou mentality are the ones not going anywhere to church today and they are so bitter against God.
I have seen others with conservative standards whose children are still attending church and living for God. The attitude about the standards and why we do things is where the FAMILY - and not the church - is so important. ........It's what goes on BEFORE church and AFTER church that young minds are tuning into the most.
We taught when we went to a church that had different standards: Respect those who are different and keep your opinions to yourself....Those opinons might just hurt someone later, including yourself. You never know where you're going to face that person later in life.
Is WH not UPC Himself?? (notice the capitalization)
Yes but he is none to pleased with most of the UPC. He has posted that before. When I asked him why he didn't just leave he mentioned that where he is at there are a few as conservative as him so he can put up with the others.

You are wrong. I do not go to inspect the church. But I don't want to go to a church that doesn't believe in and have standards. I other words I don't won't to walk into a church and find women on the platform with cut hair and make-up and jewelry. I want and Apostolic church.

Off the top of my head, I can't think of any pastors on this board that are from TN that would pastor the kind of church you are looking for. In fact, most of the people from TN around here would fall under the "lib" category, according to the "cons" around here.

I am from Tennessee. The church I have spoken of has a platform standard. You will not see cut hair and make up and pants on women on the platform. You will see some of those things in the congregation because as I have said they have many new converts. And, I've never been there when the pastor preached for everyone to buy a tv. It was never brought up. It is a revival church. I've preached there many times. I think you would enjoy - I could be wrong because I don't know you personally.

Our community theater group is performing Pirates of the Penzant (sp?) this summer. I didn't audition because we have our midweek services on Thursday nights now and that is a major rehearsal night. I figured I would be frowned upon if I said, "Well, I have to miss a night of rehearsal every week" so I am sitting out - again. Funny isn't it?

That is because in a forum as diverse as this one what constitutes a "good church" varies widely from person to person.

Whole-Hearted,
I know exactly what sort of church you're looking for, because I went through the same thing during a period of time, and they are VERY hard to find!

hmm, I don't think you're going to find the sort of church you're looking for in gatlinburg unless you're going to go there and start one. you'll have to go to a nearby "city" and find one there
