I currently have no sound, and I just haven't learned to lip read yet, so I have no idea what this is all about.

but we also have The Holy Apostolic Bible (http://Apostolic-bible.com) based on the KJV. :D

The MEV isn't based on the KJV, its based on the TR. Its a modern translation from the same Greek Text

The video makes a lot of references to "being true to the King James" etc. so it makes it sound as if it is based on the original translation along with the Greek Text.

and the TR is not really the TR.
history shows that what we call the TR did not exist at all until after the KJV was created.

Yes I know I am hypocritical because I use the TR myself, but that does not mean I can not point out the truth. :D

Went to check these out at the bookstore today. I did like the looks of the thinline. Would be nice to carry. I liked the way the paragraphs are arranged also. My problem was the print was just to small for me. Even with my glasses on I had to strain to read it.

The guy on the phone had told me they also had the large print version. They did not. I was disappointed because I thought it might be just what I needed.

But I noticed a large print personal size Holman NKJV with a leather touch cover. I know that Holman makes good Bibles so I picked it up and it felt good and looked good. The print was very nice much more readable to my eyes than the MEV.

It was tagged at$19. I thought what a deal this is! When I got to the register they rang it up at $14! I couldn't believe it! As far as bang for the buck this might be the best I have scored.

That doesn't make sense. If the KJV was not translated from the TR, what was it translated from?

Textus Receptus (Latin: "received text") is the name given to the succession of printed Greek texts of the New Testament which constituted the translation base for the original German Luther Bible, the translation of the New Testament into English by William Tyndale, the King James Version, the Spanish Reina-Valera translation and most other Reformation-era New Testament translations throughout Western and Central Europe. The series originated with the first printed Greek New Testament, published in 1516 – a work undertaken in Basel by the Dutch Catholic scholar and humanist Desiderius Erasmus. Although based mainly on late manuscripts of the Byzantine text-type, Erasmus' edition differed markedly from the classic form of that text, and included some missing parts back translated from the Latin Vulgate.

That predates the KJV

The MEV is a translation of the Textus Receptus and the Jacob ben Hayyim edition of the Masoretic Text,
using the King James Version as the base manuscript.

The MEV is a literal translation. It is also often referred to as a formal correspondence translation.

Was it this one (with a different cover)? http://biblebuyingguide.com/holman-nkjv-large-print-personal-size-reference-bible-review/

That's one of the best NKJV's in print imo. It's designed by 2K/Denmark. They designed the settings for most of the high-end premium Bibles and the journaling editions. They're my favorite designers.

No its just a 19.99 version. It has what they are calling a Leather Touch type cover. Yours looks like it has 5 small "ridges" on its cover mine has none.

But it could be the one you have may be what Im really looking for in a NJKV. Mine is great for the price. If they have this same style in a good quality cover for $60 Im in.

I think I prefer the NKJV over the MEV for this main reason. Memorization. I like to have uniform scriptures for anyone in a group setting. In this generation many have switched over to the NKJV. The MEV may be very good I hope to get one someday, but for sharing in groups or in a fellowship sitting everyone should be on the same page.

It has been many years since I was part of a church where everyone used the same translation.

Which Bible translations are the product of church efforts, rather than for profit companies/publishers?

The MEV is a translation of the Textus Receptus and the Jacob ben Hayyim edition of the Masoretic Text, using the King James Version as the base manuscript. I doubt this, they err if making the claim. The Ben Hayim edition omitted Joshua 21:36-37 and has the "like a lion" Hebrew text in Psalm 22:16, instead of "pierced".

Also, the King James Bible is not a manuscript, it is a Bible (or a Bible edition) .. they may have used it for the textual base, which is likely what you meant.

It is frequently wrongly stated that the AV (Authorized Version) is translated from the Ben Hayim. That is the root of the difficulty.

OK I bought a copy of the MEV. Reason being as far as I know it is the only Bible in print beside the KJV and the NKJV that is based on the TR.

It is a Thinline version pretty small to contain both Testaments. Nice cover nice text layout. The disadvantage as I think was mentioned is the print is small. I sometimes have to squint with my glasses on to read it.

I dont regret buying it as its only $30. I read about 12 chapters last night enjoying something a wee bit different.

I like that one, but you're right the print is tiny. You would love the personal size large print: http://biblebuyingguide.com/passios-personal-size-large-print-mev-bible-review/

For those interested, here's the thinline: http://biblebuyingguide.com/passio-mev-thinline-reference-bible-review/

So how did you like some of the features, especially the new section divisions?
That was one of our major innovations.

How about the addition of titles to every chapter, do you think, that is helpful?
