Does anyone ever do the old fashioned road trips anymore? I'm talking about
the route 66 type of trip, where you get in the car and take a tour across
the country. I did a lot of that when I was a kid, and there is a certain
nostalgia about it that is giving me a desire to do it again.

That was fun when the price of gas was 99 cents a gallon and we didn't have any children. To load up everyone in an RV at $3.00 a gallon is just too much moolah to dish out. But yes, I do fondly remember taking road trips. I drove all the way to California when I was 18. That was a blast.

When I was a kid, we used to do long road trips out west. We would drive
to California on I40 or I10. We would make scenic stops at places like the
Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Grand Canyon.... I've got a desire to do
something like that again.
You are right about the price of gas. It is much higher now, but compared
to the cost of doing a theme park every day on vacation, it is still a bargain.
The challenging part is getting the kids to buy into it. They are 15 and 18.
Does anyone ever do road trips with their teenagers? If so, how well did
it go?
