Good question.
Let me know if someone tells.
I was born in Illinois and moved to Wisconsin when I was about 6 years old.
I left there to attend Bible School in St. Paul, MN in 1956.
At the end of the 1956/1957 school year I came to Cincinnati for the summer to sit under Bro. F.E. Curts and hear him teach.
My job which was waiting for me when I got here ended a month later.
It took me a month to find another job (I was "draft" age back then).
Since I'd started a new job I thought maybe I would work for a year before going back to Bible School.
The following year (1958) I got married.
Now, after 49 years of marriage, 5 children and 13 grandchildren, I'm still here.

My husband and I would love to move! We hate the summers here. But my elderly parents depend on us to help them out. So, we leave for the summers and let my siblings take charge while we are gone. We have discussed many times where would we move if we could. We have not settled on a place yet. Our possibilities so far are- Asheville, NC, Fort Collins, CO, and Cheyenne, WY.
I played the parlor game one time that asked- " If you could go back and redo something, what would it be?" I stated that I would move away and go to college somewhere out of state, or move out of state early in my career. I still feel that way.

It's where God has put me.
I don't like moving and treasure stability. For that reason once I graduated from College and was married my wife and I moved to Austin, TX to raise our family.
My oldest child was 3 months old when we moved to Austin, Texas and our next two children were born there. We lived in Austin for 16+ years until my employer offered me a wonderful job opportunity in Nashville.
Sixteen years before I had chosen to move to Ausitn for the economy, weather, educational opportunities, arts, and most of all a good strong exUPC church.
I would not have taken the promotion to move to Nashville had there not been a strong Spirit filled Jesus name baptizing exUPC church here also. I have now been living in Nashville for 8 years this month.

I don't think that's a sad thing. My husband and I were both born and raised here in our little town and after moving away for a few years, we're right back home. I don't want to live anywhere else.
I like the fact that when I go to the grocery store I have to figure in extra time because of all the people I'll see and need to chat with.
I like the fact that some of the teachers that I had in school (who were just out of college at that time) are now the same teachers that my boys have now (who are now ready to retire)
I like the fact that my doctor is also my mother's doctor and my brother's doctor and my niece's doctor, etc. He can make good 'family connections' that way. He knows that my mother is diabetic, for instance, so he's watching for that in me as I age.
I like the fact that when my boys ride their bikes to the store, if they stop on the way to do something they shouldn't, someone will call me and let me know so I can handle it the minute they get home.
I like the fact that my kids are safe riding down to the park to watch a baseball game and even riding home a little after dark. There is always someone there who knows them and will watch after them, just as I do for their kids when they are not there.
I could go on and on............. I just wanted to say how glad I am to be living in the same little town I was born in :)
It's where God has put me.

Instability, yes. But, I'm almost still young. If I had a family, I would become

I am not much of a city person either. Last August we moved from out in the country to a subdivision on the outskirts of a farily small town that is a bedroom community to Nashville.
Even though we are almost out in the country and the subdivision has 1/2 acre lots it is still hard to get used to living in civilization!

Thanks. Jess spent a year in Germany as an exchange student when she was 18. That was much much harder for me than this year in Austria. The only time I felt any apprehension was when she went to Turkey for a week back in February.
I'm sure you were relieved when your son left Iraq. My sons have talked about the military but I'm hoping (and praying for God's will) that they'll stick it out in college.

No. It takes a lot of effort to get into the military academies. My older son will only join if he can fly planes and the Navy wouldn't make any promises although he passed the testing with flying colors and he's only one class shy of a math degree.
My youngest son got into some trouble and would not qualify for an academy.

If a recruiter guarantees that you'll get to choose your MOS, he is lying. But, most I know who are in the service were able to select their MOS.
It's on a "need" basis, as in, if they need to fill spots somewhere, well, you get "volun-told" what you are going to do.

Well, let's see. I moved here to come be part of a church that was trying to get off the ground. That basically fell apart, so now we are basically stuck here until some things happen and the Lord opens the door for us to leave. I promised my son we would not move while he was in high school so we have at least three more school years to go. My hope is to finish college and get my bachelors degree by the time he graduates (I start June 25th) and then put as many miles between me and this one horse town as the Lord will allow. My hope is to move South, maybe TN or GA even.

ok, Berk.. I see what yer sayin'. Before I married and had a family I lived in two different cities in Michigan for a total of 4 years and 1 year in Kentucky (not a good experience. Not that Ky. is bad. The experience was just awful).
So yes, I did live away. But like you, once I married, stability became a huge plus for me.

We live in a small town close to the Lake of the Ozarks, MO. just a few miles from where I was raised. Nice, friendly people here - not a terrible place by any means, but if we could simply choose we would likely live in or close to a larger city. I have a good business established here allowing my wife (who is an RN) to stay home with the children. One thing that makes it easier for us to live here is our ability to travel some. We try to take an international trip every other year, and travel in the states in the off year. It is a great place to come back to and is where most of my family also calls home.
Why?

I lived in Norfolk,Va. for twenty years and hated the place.

I love to drive through the Plains, see the big sky and cattle grazing.

Moved here to plant a church.
Bro. Pastor Poster,
In time it will be evident if we were planted by the Father.
In Matt. Jesus said that every plant his Father had not planted
would be rooted up. If indeed it is the Father that planted, in time
a "righteous tree will spring up. And there will be "blooms" and then
in time there will be fruit. Fruit of righteousness, the planting of the
LORD. The fruit will be good.
If the Father did indeed plant the tree, even though when newly planted
it will struggle, in time those roots will grow down, deep, deep into the
earth. That tree knows it was the Father that planted it there. You will
have a difficult time uprooting the "tree" the Father has planted.
Psalm 1, gives a good look at the tree that has been planted by the
Father. He shall be like a tree, planted by the "rivers of water" That
tree is watered continually by the Holy Ghost (River of Life) Life-giving
Waters! (Makes me want to swim out deeper!) This tree bringeth forth
his fruit it its season. This trees leaves shall not wither and whatsoever
he doeth SHALL prosper. Tall, strong trees did not get that way overnight.
It takes time and patience because some little sprouts are going to be
coming forth from that tree and it will take time and patience to nurture
those "sprouts" which will in time become trees of righteousness also if
nurtured with love and patience and watered with prayerful tears! It takes
patience to stand still when you see so much going on all around you.
Trees running to and fro but going where! If you want to stand strong in
the Lord and in the power of HIS might, you're going to have to "be still
and KNOW" that He is God, and that He planted this tree.
Bro. Pastor Poster, be strong in the LORD and in the power of HIS
MIGHT!!
Blessings,

Nither of the answers fit my situation. We moved to Milw in 198o a coupke of years after my dad passed away.
We were in Cincinnati and Pastor Tamel in Oak Creek, WI asked us to come.
He and my dad were close friends.
many of my family have moved away, I got married and stayed.
Many times I wonder how did I get here!

We live here (TX) because it is an affordable area that allows me to stay home with our very young children. In an ideal world we would like to move to New England where we have family, but the impact on our finances would be too great.

Out of curiousity, I have checked house prices in other places and compared them to my house in Houston. I really cannot find anywhere, where I can get all the things I have (housing, neighborhood, accessibility to things/places) for as cheaply as I have them other than right where I am at!
