Thank you, Amanha! One more cold night and we are done. :thumbsup
We cooked outside when the electricity was down. Just getting water in the house today. Have had all containers filled to flush the toilets throughout this unprecedented storm. Not sure if bathroom pipes have been damaged. Water is trickling today. Everything is still frozen, but beginning to thaw.
I was asleep in the living room one night when the lights came on, I made a beeline to the kitchen to make some coffee. I can tell you that the only thing Texas knows about ice and salt is a Margarita. True that! :heeheehee

Did you want him to fly the helicopters to spray the wind turbines! Guess what? That isn’t his job to fix the infrastructure. :smack

Nah. I’d call out a Dem on it so I’m not going to be a hypocrite when a Republican does it.

Doesn’t matter his job. It’s the optics of him jet setting off to Cancun while his constituents are literally dying. It’s why Presidents are careful what they do when there’s a national disaster or terror attack.
We all know Ted Cruz can do nothing wrong in your eyes.

“Optics”. Love how you copied that term from the media - ad nauseam.
We need to grow up in this country. If he had a preplanned trip, he can take it. People are stupid if they think his staying here would have made the snow and ice go away.
There was a mayor who resigned and his wife got fired after he, as a citizen, asked people to grow up and take care of themselves.
We didn’t need or want anyone to help up try to find a way to have warm food or drink when we were frozen in. We didn’t need anyone to tell us how to get water to flush our toilets. We had to turn off our devices to save batteries so we could keep in touch with our children.
And I don’t need Ted to do anything save to stay in touch with the situation wherever he is. He doesn’t have to be in Houston to stay up to date while waiting.
Ranting on him because the media decided to make it an issue is also stupid and embarrassing. He worked hard to make the money he has. If others can’t afford it, too bad. Stop being jealous. Grow up.

Amen! Been praying for them and all others who are dealing with the frozen tundras!! Even Mississippi was blanketed with ice and snow. Thankfully it did not reach into the southern most areas! But, it did get COLD!!

Glad to see you cooking outside in a dutch oven Bro. E! Living in the country offers much more opportunities for survival in such a situation than living in a large city does. So many Texans were reminded of how vulnerable they are, and I think it was a good wakeup call for many of them. All of my family in TX are now looking into being better prepared, ie. stockpiling food, water, and sources of heat, and generator power, which is something we do as second nature living here in the north.

Both guys in charge of our electric grid, one from Michigan and one from California need to be booted. 👍🏻
Having two heating sources is what I would plan for. Glad we and our children have both gas and electric at our homes. First time the kids used their fireplaces this winter. Lol!
I feel for those that only have electric. That is scary.

This is exactly what I would have done, looks aok to me. We can get by without modern conveniences when necessary.
I grew up in Houston(south Houston, Pasedena, North Houston, Conroe area. I saw pictures of some of the beaches in Galveston covered with snow. A rarity for sure.
Texas is nice, just not those areas I grew up in. Most every state has those areas.

The parts of Texas not on its ERCOT power grid appear to have weathered the freeze with few outages
After the 2011 winter freeze, El Paso Electric, on the Western Interconnect grid, spent heavily to "winterize our equipment and facilities so they could stand minus-10 degree weather for a sustained period of time," Eddie Gutierrez, an El Paso Electric spokesman,
On the other side of Texas, near the Louisiana border, the city of Beaumont also appears to have weather the storm without massive outages. Entergy, which powers Beaumont on the Eastern Interconnect grid, told KHOU it also winterized its infrastructure after the 2011 storm.

It wasn't preplanned. It was to get away from the weather.
Hey, PO, you gonna tell Ted to grow up? Because even Ted said it was "a mistake" to fly to Cancun on a whim because they were without power and heat in their home for a couple days.
There was a mayor who resigned and his wife got fired after he, as a citizen, asked people to grow up and take care of themselves.
He was Mayor when he posted the rant on FB. He resigned after the post. While I don't disagree with what he posted, it's best he resigned.
And I don’t need Ted to do anything save to stay in touch with the situation wherever he is. He doesn’t have to be in Houston to stay up to date while waiting.

I'm not being jealous, woman. I'm in sunny and warm Arizona. I don't need/want to go to Mexico.
I didn't "rant on him." I posted a single sentence. And I would have posted the same for a Democrat because, unlike you, I'm not a partisan hack. If someone does something stupid, I'll call them out regardless of their political party. I guarantee you had this been a Democrat Senator, you would have posted criticism about it. But it's your man crush so he gets a pass from you.
BTW, here's what Ted said, "as I was heading down there, you know, I started to have second thoughts almost immediately because the crisis here in Texas, you need to be here on the ground. As much as you can do by phone and Zoom, it's not the same as being here. And so, I returned this afternoon and I'm here working to make sure that we do everything we can to get the power turned on."
May want to tell your man crush that he's wrong.

The Cruz thing is a gaffe. Politically stupid. Looks bad. Unforced error. A politician violating his or her own lockdown order is a scandal. Abuse of power. Corruption. Deceit.
There’s a difference. A pretty big difference. People are pretending not to see the difference.

Right when it was revealed that the FBI is investigating Cuomo over the nursing home scandal, suddenly the media starts focusing intensely on the Cruz family's trip to Cancun. If you're a conservative going along with this obvious bs distraction technique, you're useless.

I personally feel that the media is putting us into group think. I have read more comments by true constituents, like myself, who don’t care if he and his family flew to Cancun. As a Senator, he has no control over getting the problem fixed. He violated no mandate. Some of the comments have been that he can work remotely like everyone else and that he left his house not using up resources others could use.
Of course, any excuse to get Ted removed is their goal. We should push back. The Democrats work is to divide the Republicans before 2022.
Here is what violating a mandate and what real hypocrisy looks like:
Chris Christi, the proverbial Rhino, tells the people to stay off the beach ending up with his family on the beach.
Gavin Newsom mandates everyone stay home and closes restaurants, ends up at French Laundry Restaurant.
Pelosi and Lori Lightfoot demand hair salons close, yet, end up with special appointments.
Gov. Whitmer mandates stay home, stay off the water, yet, her husband goes down to a boat dock to prepare a little boat trip.
Chris Como goes biking after instructing people to stay home.
That is just a few examples.
You and I can disagree, but I know one thing we can agree on - Ted did not violate any mandates. He has worked hard for Texas and I don't want him beat up over something that is no where on the level of hypocrisy.
We can’t allow the left to level us over things they do themselves.

I’m not a Ted Cruz fan. There’s something about him that I don’t care for, it may be his looks. If I look past the surface I tend to agree with his policies so maybe I’m being shallow.
Having said all that, his first responsibilities are to his wife and children. Certainly NOT the voters. This is scriptural. I think he did the right thing, until he apologized. I wish he had not apologized. But he didn’t ask me. Maybe next time he will.
I’m dripping with wisdom just waiting to share. All he had to do is ask!

Sadly, this is where politics places you - forcing you to do what they want.
There are two sides - David says bad optics. My side says, I don’t care.
If he had said nothing, David’s side would have kept crucifying him. The Left will keep it up until 2022.
More sadly, the Republicans won’t come together and show the hypocrisy in this story - The Left’s rules for me and not for thee. They need to do better and stop allowing the media, Hollywood, Rhinos and the Left to keep telling us how we have to think and view things. Good grief, now Coca Cola is putting out internal teaching - “stop acting white.” This is getting out of hand.
Gina Carano was cancelled for saying the truth. “Jews were beaten in the streets, not by Nazi soldiers but by their neighbors...even by children. Because history is edited, most people today don’t realize that to get to the point where Nazi soldiers could easily round up thousands of Jews, the government first made their own neighbors hate them simply for being Jews.”

Everyone is not me. But if I heard that he had the opportunity to get his family to kinder surroundings and failed to do so, I wouldn’t think highly of him for failing to do so.
It’s odd to me that if he had set still and shivered and suffered with his family, but otherwise done nothing to improve the circumstances of his own family or his fellow Texans, that would have been somehow better than protecting and providing for his family.
That is odd thinking. It was a potentially life threatening situation. He did well to get them to luxurious accommodations. It isn’t like they didn’t invite others to come along.
Contrast that with Nancy, who forbade hair salons to be open, until she needed her hair done. If she were getting her hair done and inviting everyone to do the same, it would be more comparable. Still not life threatening though. God forbid that the voters figure out that is not really her natural hair color!
