This software package was recommended to me by a customer of mine. It's an open source office suite. It works with all the things you can do in Microsoft's office suite. I've downloaded it to my laptop without office and works great. Best of all it's free!
openoffice.org (http://www.openoffice.org)
I found the site hard to find a regular download so I went to download.com and found it there.

It has a version of Word, Publisher, Excell, Powerpoint, and Access. It also lets you save as a microsoft version.
I wish I'd of known about this a few months ago before I bought Office.
There is also an open source church worship media package I found. If it's any good I'll give the link to that too.

The worship media that I download is Open Song. It looks like it might take some getting used to how it works, but it sure is a lot better then Power Point which our church uses right now. I'm going to recommend they try this.

I was also told that Linux makes an operating system for kids. I'll try to find it and give the link.
This whole open source software is a new world for me and I'm falling in love with it. I've been using Mozilla Firefox for a browser, but didn't really understand what open source was until this last weekend. Best of all it's free!

I have all that. Open song though is a good program but not good enough for what we are doing. OpenOffice is a great program. Sun had a paid version that looked great, looked like Office, but they stopped making it.
There are some free "Word" like programs out there that are really good too

Oh wow, thanks for this information too. I have used download.com a lot and two weeks ago I got hit with a virus that I still haven't been able to get rid of.

Thanks to all. Sent the info to my daughter. I don't know what program she is using, but thought she'd want a heads up on these.
