View Full Version : If you had $8,000,000
If you made $80,000,000 per year, believed in paying tithes, and had $8,000,00 to give, would you give it all to just one church or would you spread it around to different churches and ministries? I do not think I would give it all to just one church, but that's just me. How would you handle it?

Give it to PETA or Greenpeace.

I would spread it around.

If I gave 8 mil in tithes to a church per year, I would demand to be on the church board! :killinme (I probably wouldn't have to ask!)
Then.....the pastor would be my puppet! :)

Rico~ I'd not give it to any churches, I'd give it to those who need it most in the ministries and people in general.

I'd distribute half to several churches wanting to build and pay off bills for other churches and then give the rest to RON PAUL.

I would tithe to the church I attend the entire amount. The rest of the time when I am giving my meager share as I am not rich that church and pastor put up with me.
They pray for me,encourage me when I am down and bless the Lord in doing so.
Our pastor takes a salary and has a paid office staff. This is no one man show
and hasn't been for many years. Its called moving forward in the kingdom of God and allowing others to minister full time.God is good. The church here has a silver
eagle bus and carts the kids to camp and saints or choir to functions all over the
place.I am so glad to be a part.God is good.I suppose if you went to a place that did not have diversity in ministry or fund alot of missionaries or whatever you
could get the "I don't want all my money to go to one place attitude." However
we don't and I don't.

So, wanting to give the money to more than just one place is an "attitude?" Isn't God's church bigger than just the local assembly? With $8 million a year in tithe money isn't there enough to fund several ministries? What's this "attitude" statement all about?

I go to a church that does more than pad one mans pocket. It pays bills of serveral ministries. You were speaking of tithes and I pay my tithes to the church that feeds me.All those ministries out there don't worry over me at the hospital or come to my house. If I have that much money however and we are talking a good bit of money why allocate tithes to go to all those ministries? Why not give out of my own pocket? Why not make it a personal offering instead of worrying about a pastor getting all the tithes. The tithes are only ten percent which is a mere drop in the bucket when you are talking hypothetically of that kind of money. My main concern would not
be what the pastor would do with all that money but what would I do with ninety percent more.I have not been a part of many churches that don't have more than one ministry operating out of it.
Even as small as our church was my husband paid the minister of music money and the evangelists that helped us and we did not live off the tithes because we wanted it to grow as much as it could off what was coming in being a church plant.
That is the right spirit but of course if you are talking about a church that has one pastor and no one else in the adm or the pulpit and is sitting on a big pile of greenbacks maybe that would make some resentful I don't know.I just know that I have found a place in the Lord where I can trust my money as well as my soul.We do take new members if you are interested.I am more concerned about what I would do with that kind of funds.Would I leave Jesus or suddenly get that attitude that since I give so much I need to have a say in the daily operations of the church. Its not a corp with a CEO its the Church of the Living God.
For instance if I were sitting under the ministries of say the Alvear family.I would pay my tithes to them because I can trust them spiritually to love and care for my soul and the souls of others
and I would know they would do the right thing with the money. So what I am seeing the main
underlying issue being is would a person trust the ministry they are a part of to do the right thing with a mere ten percent of the huge chunk of change they have received.
I might have to give the church the ninety percent and me keep the ten to make it to heaven.
Know what I mean?

Here's a related question... what if the guy has enough money that he no longer needs to work at all... but if he DID work, he has unlimited earning potential... making millions of dollars a year. Is he robbing God because he chooses not to work, therefore he would not be contributing any future tithing other than off of the interest on his investments?

Your question btw good morning..makes me think of the parable of the talents.I think that parable answers it quite well.He would be held accountable for his stewardship.I for one would love to be maxing out to all my potential. My family started one business this year and are about to embark on another one.I am praying I can be a blessing.Maybe the church would be able to pay some full time
Home Bible Study teachers and such. That would be awesome.I wonder what it would be like to just full time present the gospel to people in their living rooms with maybe a multimedia powerpoint presentation and close the deal like some great sales people do but the reward would be so great because the wealth of the gospel is immeasurable.Good question.

Good morning. :) But in my opinion, if a man has already earned more than he could possibly use, why should he have to work just so he can pay the church more tithes?

Yet that wasn't your question.I also don't see that anyone would have to work only so they can pay the church more tithes.Tithes are given from the heart with
a right spirit.I see giving to the work of the Lord as a blessing that the gospel might keep being preached. Here in America people expect a nice place to worship.
I see giving as a way to fund ministries that get the word out effectively.
I do however see that the parable of the talents applies to all of us.The thing about the man or woman for that matter having to get out has nothing to do with just paying the church more tithes. It has to do with standing before God on the day you are appointed and being able to say that you were a good steward and having a clear conscience. To me anyway that is.

Maybe the man finds spending time with his family a better investment than being greedy and earning money that he knows he will never be able to spend... but the church just sees the lost income...

I thought we were discussing how God would think about it not the church. Its a shame you don't live here in Pensacola and come to church. You would love it and think so much differently. The small minded attitude you hypothetically expressed isn't present. We are just all in it together to win souls and love the Lord.Have a great day brother.:kittyhug

I promise you, when the Lord blesses me to do so, two things will happen. My home church would receive the 8 million dollar tithe. Second, the UPCI, ALJC, and all Independent missionaries around the world would never worry about being hungry or without again. 25 million of my money will go directly, annually, to missions.
Yes, I would tithe this to my local assemblies.

Nothing you have said here explains how someone would have an "attitude" if they wanted to dispurse that kind of money among several different ministries, rather than giving it all to their local assembly. That was my question and what I am wondering about. Eight million dollars a year is a huge amount of money, maybe more than we can conceptualize, and I don't see how wanting to spread it around over several ministries would mean the giver had some sort of attitude.
