What did your town look like according to Penny Postcards?

Check out your old stomping grounds during the times of the penny postcard.

Click on the state and then on the county to see old penny postcards from that area.....pretty neat.

Orange County, NY (http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ny/orange/postcards/ppcs-orange.html)

I grew up in Maybrook and I'm surprised it's not in the list of places, as at one time, it was a major Railway hub of the Northeast.

Newburgh and Middletown are two of the largest cities in Orange County. My High School was in Montgomery (one post card for it) and I used to go to a church in Walden (one post card for it). West Point is probably the most famous place in Orange County. The grounds there are gorgeous, and the views from the college are spectacular.

Well I was born in Mobile AL. This is one of my favorite old buildings in Mobile. It set closed for over 40 years though. They just did a multi million dollar remodel of it and restored the old hotel back to what it once was. I wish I could afford to go and stay there sometime.........

Wrong...Wrong..Wrong...That man is a servant made to carry in the deer that this sister shot.He is ashamed because he has nothing to show for himself.:drama

This is my town, 1901 ... the year after my house was built. This picture is looking east...go down to the end one block and turn left and my house was a brand spankin new house on the left. :)

Thanks Renda, that is cool.

I was born in Wynnewood, OK, a suburb of thriving Paul's Valley, OK.

http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/ok/garvin/postcards/pvchst.jpg

I was raised in Lawton, OK (Comanche County) and Duncan, OK (Stephens County)

The only postcard for either of these counties is one of Marlow where my Maternal grandmother lived until her death.

I now live in Lake Charles (Moss Bluff) LA and this is an interesting post card. All of the water you see in the picture (Lake Charles) was later filled in and Lakeshore Drive was built along with a large park and civic center.

LOL!

Read it again... I said the water that you SEE.... not the entire lake was filled in to build this road, park and Civic Center. It really is an engineering marvel that they were able to recover that land from the lake. :)

Where my youngest sister had her wedding reception. Called the Wausau Club.
http://www.rootsweb.com/~usgenweb/wi/marathon/postcards/waclub.jpg

Right now it is COMPLETELY different and modern, but also home to Scott Street Pub. Some of the best burgers in Wausau!

Where I almost fell off of more than once.

I've DJ'ed several weddings there already and love it as well. It has been updated quite a bit but still very elegant with a sense of history. (And of course, it is also very very haunted! Time to bring in Jason and Grant.....)
The food was excellent and the prices were only a couple of bucks more per plate than the more traditional places that good church folk go for their weddings.

The Ogden Canyon is beautiful. I don't recommend driving that route if you have claustrophobia.

This my friend, is why we are moving to the Mesa/Superstition, AZ area. Nothing compares to these type of landscapes.
It helps keep me grounded in my faith, overwhelmed yet not debilitatingly so, and shows me who is in charge. It is also just beautiful to look at!

It is very beautiful to look at. I feel sorry for people that live with no real scenery. :)
