This collage of national standards makes for great wallpaper on your PC. Just thought you good folks would like to have a thread dedicated to talking about the flags of the world!

"Hummmmmm" such a catchy title for a post.
I don't know much about all these flags, but I once heard a Preacher preach about Standards on a paperwood hauling truck, and why it was important to have them, and the necessity for having them, and what would happen if they weren't there. But on with the show.

Who set the standard for the order in which these flags were laid out?

Didn't take long for this Thread to fall to the bottom of the charts. I hope it
wasn't something I said??

Isaiah 59:19 (KJV) 19 So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.

Please tell me you're not insinuating that this has anything at all to do with outward dress standards . . .

The 'standard' mentioned there is a flag... something armies bring into battle. In other words, "the Lord will lift up his flag before us and cause the enemy to flee"
Has nothing to do with dress standards or any other 'holiness standards' in any way, shape or form...

I misread something and edited this post. And so I do agree with Ronzo about the flag being raised up. That was what triggerd my mind to this text in the first place.. Just wanted to see what reactions I'd get if I posted a scripture with the dreaded word "standard" in it......:winkgrin kinda like turning over rocks or logs to see what will crawl out.......:slaphappy:slaphappy

Right. I was just studying that a few days ago and reading through various translations and commentaries on it.
Perhaps the post was more TIC than a literal belief....

Brother, you know ignorance abounds among apostolics. It would be nice if people were encouraged to actually study the Word, rather than just accept someone else's idea of what it says.

Rico,
I know you would be surprised, but I have found that ignorance abounds in a lot of places, even in the judgmental broad-brush statements of some! :slaphappy:killinme

If the Spirit is indeed leading and guiding us into all truth then all that are being lead should come to the same conclusions, yes/no? :sshhh
I would say the main conclusion is that I should prefer my brother/sister and do everything I can not to cause him/her to stumble at my liberties or lack thereof.
I would think that we need to be more considerate of each other and less with the harsh judgements. And that cuts both ways.

Well, Rico, I am going to agree with that old trinitarian preacher, Biship GE Patterson. He sang a song that simply said, "I know the Bible is right and somebody's wrong":winkgrin

I'm thankful my pastor encourages me to read and study my bible too. Actually he encourages us to read it through anually. Which I have done for some seven years thus far.

There are other references but those two always stuck in my mind! Humor is indeed a great teacher!

Most of those that have a "problem" with "standards" really have a problem with being told that standards are heaven or hell issues. Some may be, but I think most are a matters of obedience and personal conviction. Standards can bring safety and uniformity.

I do agree 100% that they are preached to bring safety and uniformity. The other stuff you said is too simplified. Those who have a problem with standards are concerned that the BIBLE does not indicate, teach, or give explicit direction or indication to where standards relate collectively to the precious gospel of grace.
I have heard Apostolic preachers say things like, "there is nothing you can do in your own efforts to be holy..."
I just don't get that.
I also kind of chuckle when preachers make statements such as, "there is only ONE way, ONE way to heaven, being baptized in Jesus name and speaking in tongues as the spirit giveth the utterance, living a holy life of separation from the world (standards), being faithful to church and paying your tithes, and prayer..."
Fit THAT into a song.

Baptized in Jesus name and speaking in tongues as the spirit giveth the utterance, living a holy life of separation from the world (standards), being faithful to church and paying your tithes, and prayer...

Funny thing is we live the good life because of standards.....just think about standards of measure......they make for cooking and baking from a recipe a wonderful experience......they make for buying the right clothes size less than traumatic.....it makes for buying thinks by the pound or ounce fair......
Could we live without those standards??? Sure, but would you want too? :nah

Of course, but a standard IS a standard. There is ONE atomic clock, a standard is something that cannot be challenged because it has been proven to be a fact time and time and time again.
Apostolic Standards are anything BUT standard.

Nope. The metric system is a different standard. That doesn't make the standard unit of measurement WRONG. An inch is an inch and a centimeter is still a centimeter. 1 centimeter = 0.4 inches and one inch = 2.54 centimeters...every single time.

Apostolic Standards are anything BUT standard.Exactly! And they change from one pastor, district, church, country, saint to another. And very few people in the apostolic movement at large are following them any more ... at least in their more conservative definition anyhow.

The problem is that many folks don't know why they follow them or they have a misguided interpretation of what the WHY really is.
To many it becomes a lifestyle and character trait, and it is counteractive to the real reason on separation from the world and all that.
