View Full Version : Unusal Happenings in Small Group

Thought I would share what happened in a small group that I was invited to minister in. A local church 30 miles away invited us to share in a small group that meets in one of it's members house (yes the Pastor was present).

After a time of worship, I taught a simple Bible lesson on the 4 reasons the NT gathered together.

To hear from and be healed by Jesus

To Worship God together

To be equipped for ministry

Bring a gift to edify someone else

After 40 minutes of teaching, I opened the group to the possiblity that God would want to do more in the group that simply talke about these things, that he might want to do the stuff.

I intially recieved a word of knowledge about a physical condition that a visiting family had, they receieved prayer and seemed to benefit from it

I then asked if others had needs, a lady stood up saying something about her back muscle being stretched and being pain, which caused a nerve to be afflicted in her leg.

We proceeded to pray for her with some minimal results, but afterwards a brother who had come in using a cane, began to make noise about being healed and that he can move his legs and back, he began to demonstrate the healing that instantly came to him.

The amazing thing about this, no prayer was directed to him, he just believed and received as we were ministering to others.

Also as a child he attended some faith healing meetings and was put off by the supposed fakery that he saw. He was very skeptical to God healing anyone.

He kept saying over and over, I never believed that I could be healed, this is real, real, and real. Praise God!

Just thougtht I would share these unusal manifestations of God's power.

Praise God!

It was at the end of the meeting.

When the pastor said to an older gentleman (the one who came in with a cane) "Ralph would like prayer?"

He responded "No-"

I thought to myself, why in world wouldn't anyone want prayer, especially if you are using a cane!

Then the man continued "Because sister whatever healing you were suppose to receive came over to me, and God healed me"

The man went on to say how many surgeries he had had in last 5 or so years. He said he couldn't move right, could barely walk.

As the man told of his disabilities he started to twist and turn(which he was unable to do before). He even said the pain was gone, and he wasn't going to take anymore pain medication.

I tell you when that man first came in the room he looked about 80 years old. when we left that night he looked 20 years younger!

God shows up and does amazing things when you invite him.

Keith, I love to hear these kinds of reports. I am totally convinced that more should happen along these lines OUTSIDE the church. I currently lead two small groups from our church and am training leaders to take them over so I can start more groups. We had an awesome time of prayer after sharing. We normally discuss the sunday sermon. However, I would not be opposed to having a minister from another church come and share in any of our small groups without me being there.

Keep up the God work. God is using you and it is great to hear the reports!!!! :D

Have you ever read The Coal Miner Preacher by James O. Russell?

There are some good testimonies in there of some of what God did in the homes of the simple folks that lived in Kentucky back in the olden days whereof this book was written.

It is good to hear of and see so many, here and there, returning to the simplicity that is in Christ Jesus. Godspeed and carry on.

I was just struck with a sense of sadness/conviction at the title of this thread. It should never be unusual for the Lord to move in our midst with signs and wonders; not just in a church setting (home or otherwise). Wouldn't it be awesome if where ever we went people would feel the Spirit? This is not an indictment of anyone, except maybe myself.

Yes it should be the usual, I put it in there to draw attention to sometimes overlooked praise reports.

Yes it should be the usual, I put it in there to draw attention to sometimes overlooked praise reports."Overlooked" happens a lot. So do miracles and outstanding answers to prayer. I think we take so much of what God does for us on an ongoing basis so much for granted.

The "extraordinary" has become ordinary to so many so often and God doesn't get the glory or praise He deserves really. We're so spoiled!

People just don't take the time to tell what God is doing. My husband could have been killed a couple weeks ago and it's a miracle he walked away from that accident totally unharmed - not even a scratch. That's a miracle!

My pastor's 17 y/o daughter was completely healed of Crohn's disease two Sunday's ago. All she could eat before was plain turkey without having abdominal pain and the rest. She's been eating jalapenos and hot sauce since the healing and is doing fine. She stopped taking her medications the night she was healed as well.

Crohn's is a horrible disease.

God has never stopped working miracles. We just take many things for granted or at least if not that then what He does for His children and the way He works in the world is met with a "ho hum" and not much is made of it usually.

An unthankful generation is what we are I'm afraid. IF there is a lack of miracles and healing and answer to prayer the way we'd like to see it it's probably partly due to the fact that we're so unthankful, yet God still answers prayer. He's an awesomely merciful, patient and loving God.

I too love to hear these great stories of the goodness and graciousness of our Lord. I've seen him do these things so many times before. It is always fresh to see it again and again.

Thanks for sharing....

A good book about a man of God (even if he was a one-stepper and even if he did later join the UPC) and some of the miracles in his ministry

What's a "one-stepper"?
