I went to campmeeting in Arkansas tonight. Our group from our church sang. I have about decided I should have stayed home or at least sat on the front seat so I could not see the goings on around me!
Do you ever get tired of the people prancing around in their "fine raiment"? The preacher's kids who are now preachers themselves who sit with their legs crossed, you know the "preacher leg cross" and sit there "acting" like they are listening to the preacher but are really just playing with their palm pilots!
I was so distracted I came away with nothing from the service. I think I am getting old!:IAM
Well, sorry for the ranting and raving of an "apparently getting old" lady!

I believe it has been about 30 years since I went to Texas Campmeeting in Lufkin. I did drive thru the grounds about a year and a half ago, to show my grown children the very pine tree under which I met their mother. Lots of memories there at youth camp and campmeeting it was a part of our life as I was growing up. I believe the times have changed, locally ministry is so good these days I don't see much real need for campmeeting. I mean how much preaching and teaching from men does it take?? At some point mature Christians should know what is needed, and should be walking in it.

I plan on going to Arkansas next month for Bro. Holmes' music conference. I think there campmeeting goes on while they're having the music conference. Hopefully, there won't be as many distractions there as what was at the campmeeting you attended.

It must be very good then. The IBC musicfest is top notch,I went to JCM and always thought it was the best until I went to IBC's.At JCM it was considered a priviledge to sing or be a clinician(you got to sell your records in the lobby lol).At IBC they actually pay you to teach or sing.I about fell over when Lindell gave me a check after teaching a couple of classes.

I am waiting for the first "real camp" camp meeting.... You know, with campfires, fishing, backpacking, tubing, ghost stories, getting lost (You know, as in "Bobbyyyyy...... Cindyyyyyyyy!") and all the fun associated with it.
REAL camping.

My husband and I are planning on attending the entire camp meeting there at Bro Holmes church in NLR. It will be our first visit to that church and we are looking soooo forward to it. :) They sure have a great line up of preachers that will be there. Wow, sure wish we would be able to get there in time for the music conference too......I didn't realize that was gonna be going on, just before the camp meeting.

Our campmeeting here in the FL this past week was one of the best I've been to...God moved mightily in every night service (I was unable to be at the day services).
I know what you're talking about with the people seeming to be there for socializing, etc...that's how it used to be here...but I've noticed the past few years it has not. Maybe those people stay home now, maybe they've gotten serious, or maybe I've just learned to ignore them.

I definitely think we need to get back to the basics.

I remember going to this camp back in the day...played bass...two things stand out. Having to constantly run from a certain preacher's daughter haha (ain't sayin' who) and some dudes who could play some mean softball! Musta been all that southern food! They were no good at basketball.

I hope this doesn't come across as overly insulting but seeing as how this is an Arkansas camp meeting..... Do any of the more radical church members show up? Like your snake handlers and poison drinker types?
Or am I thinking of North or South Carolina Appalachian mountain folk?
