We are in for an adventure folks.... thought I'd share with you what we have decided... and we are a bit crazy.. but fun...

We sold our house two years ago here in Stockton and have been leasing since.. last year we spent 26,000+ on housing including rent & utlitities...

Housing here in the fair state of California is on a rapid decline... to buy now would be to lose money... so here is what we have decided to do for the next year and half or so... investing instead of making somebody else's house payment.. (We have tried to get the owner of the house to sell three times...it's not happening) ....

Economically speaking, you'd be better off buying a house in a rapidly declining housing market than to invest in a rig.

But, if you have money to burn, it doesn't matter at all.

Anyway, you are sure to have a lot of fun. I certainly envy you, brother.

Thanks...

Brother...

Here's for believing that your Dodge Ram Tough Pick'em Up Truck will give you years of faithful service beyond any reasonable expectation and that, when all is said and done and the truck is something you used to have, you are able to look back on it and say "It was a blessing and not a curse"

Interestingly enough... and as odd as it may sound... I would dare say that in the last 2 months or so the Lord has been healing our cars. :)

I have an old Lincoln Town car that sat for 3 months while I was off every weekend preaching in Arkansas earlier this year. It wouldn't start when we settled back home.

My wife heard someones conversation and decided to try what they were talking about. It worked.

Last year we had Freon put in my wifes car and it was gone in 24 hours. A few months ago they put Freon in it to see where the problem is... it is still running great...

My wifes front drivers window had stopped rolling up. It just started rolling up and down again.

Our new van had the cruise control quit working. It is warranty so I was going to get it fixed... for free... It started working the other day and has never missed a lick.

It's all kind of amazing. :)

We are in for an adventure folks.... You sure are. Because you bought a Dodge!

thought I'd share with you what we have decided... and we are a bit crazy.. You sure are. Because you bought a Dodge!

but fun... And how. Let the fun begin . . . because you bought a Dodge!

(So long as fun is quantified in hours and dollars spent at Dodge dealership service centers.)

What an Adventure!! Adventure sounds much more romantic at the beginning, doesn't it?

Since you bought a Dodge, and you like internet forums, and you're going to need help with your Dodge, I recommend you check out the TurboDieselRegister. (http://www.turbodieselregister.com/)

You can learn about and correct the weaknesses of your Dodge. It's much better to do it on your schedule instead of on the side of the highway.

If you want to hop it up, your engine can make more power, and more easily, than Ford or Chevy. It's a very stout engine. It's a beautiful engine. It's a wonderful engine. Too bad you don't get to ride around on the engine. You have to ride around in the truck. Too bad . . . Because you bought a Dodge!

But seriously, the transmissions are notoriously weak. You should look into this before you set out for a long trip.

Note: The above satire is in no way reflective of the actual performance of Dodge trucks or the author's opinions of motor vehicles. These opinions are not necessarily those of the Apostolic Friends Forum owners, management, staff, or internet server. Apostolic Friends Forum claims no responsibility for the opinions contained in this post, nor for the performance, service, reliability, appearance, or longevity of Randy's Dodge truck, since he should have bought a Ford.

oh oh.......I see evangelize written all over it.

My thoughts exactly!

Congratulations RevRandy!! Nice looking rig and despite the naysayers I do like the truck. The only complaints I have heard about Doge pickups are the transmission on older ones and I think they have that straigthened out and then small trim items that aren't a big deal.

Like Trouvere I think one would have to be blind not to see a definite preperation for the evangelistic field. You mentioned Stockton. Are you a Home Missions pastor there? If so, just out of curioiusity, why a town with one of the largest Oneness churches in the Nation?

I have a UPC pastor friend whose house is up for sale and as soon as it does he has a 5th wheel picked out he is buying to head back on the evangelistic path. He has already resigned his church but is staying on awhile.

I have never been called to the Evangelistic Field.... I do believe Evangelism is a calling... and I can't explain to you why God has called us here but He has... I have argued with Him about it... but have resigned to the fact that this is where He wants us to be..

Believe me.. We have tried to leave more than a few times only to have the doors close... and yet we call Stockton home...

Although we have many friends at CLC we have very little to do with CLC other than Little League Baseball and some childrens functions...

Stockton proper is about 350,000+ right now and growing..so there is plenty of room to grow...

I don't understand God but I have learned thru these past few years to lean on Him and trust Him even when I haven't accepted (which now I have) or have been able to see His plan.... but trust me the chain of events that He creates are most undeniable. And His hand is working in our lives even to the most minute things...the Potters Wheel is definately at work...

I went through two transmission rebuilds and the brakes were junk... Calipers siezed up all the time, causing th brakes to never really stop braking (and consequently, BREAKING)... constanly had to replace warped rotors that were ground down beyond resurfacing...

And I never towed anything...

Keep an eye on both the trannie and the brakes.
Be diligent about them.

Automatic..

Historically, Dodge trucks are known for having transmission troubles with their automatics. That doesn't mean you will though. Just be prepared. It may be worth your while to check into some Dodge forums to find out what the early signs are that trouble is headed your way. I couldn't tell for sure if your truck is the diesel version or not, but I have heard those Cummins diesels are the best. There must be something to getting a Dodge to pull a trailer like that though, because I see more of those out on the highway than anything else. I think you made a good choice.

Dodge has been ever since they came out with the Cummins Engine. I am not positive, but I could just about promise you that it has a completely different tranny than what comes with the gasoline engines. Diesels develop a lot more torque at lower rpms and require a different set up in their transmissions because of it. I am sure there are some Dodge Diesel related forums you could find out anything you wanted to on your truck. That bad boy should last a good 350,000 to 400,000 miles.

That's what I've been told too concerning the Tranny... supposedly it's made by Dodge specifically for the Cummins...

We were really blessed by the pricing of the truck and trailer since we bought them together..

it also has a 50 Gal Tool Box/ Auto Transfer Flow tank in the Bed.. so in reality it holds 35 Gal in the stock tank and 50 Gal in the Aux... total 85 Gallons...

Sweet. I knew a fella that had one of those diesel Cadillacs GM produced back in the 80s. His had an aux. tank in the trunk. He could literally drive from Coast to Coast without having to stop for fuel.

As far as the tranny is concerned, I wouldn't worry about it too much. Any way you look at it we walk by faith and not by sight. I do know that Dodge is known for tranny issues in their gasoline powered trucks, but I can't say for sure with those diesels. They are a completely different animal all together. There has to be some reason why Dodge is so popular with people needing to pull trailers long distances.

Dodge has been ever since they came out with the Cummins Engine. I am not positive, but I could just about promise you that it has a completely different tranny than what comes with the gasoline engines. Don't be too sure about this. Initially, all the big three were using whatever transmission was offered with their regular and big-block gas engines with their diesels.

The ensuing carnage is what induced GM to offer the Allison behind the Duramax and Ford to develop their Torqshift. Those early transmissions were not up to the continuous high levels of torque and the horsepower wars only made things worse.

Diesels develop a lot more torque at lower rpms and require a different set up in their transmissions because of it. I am sure there are some Dodge Diesel related forums you could find out anything you wanted to on your truck. That bad boy should last a good 350,000 to 400,000 miles.
This is true, somewhat. The diesels available in pickup trucks are considered high-speed diesels. The transmissions for them do not have significantly different gear ratios than the transmissions for gasoline pickups.

The main kicker for our dear friend Randy is that, while Dodge may have developed a new and improved tranny for their Cummins, they would still be making it at the same old Chrysler transmission factory that has yet to impress anybody.

Randy, I hope you have no trouble whatsoever.

Brian's Truck Shop (www.brianstruckshop.com) can turn these hopes into reality, at least for your transmission.

Hoooooo DAWGIE! Can you imagine the pain of how much 3 GALLONS of synthetic would cost???

OW!

I don't have to imagine it.

But I don't have to change my oil every 5k miles, either, now that I've got the Oilguard on the truck.

As my wife said...It will be what we make of it... but we were both in agreement when we started so it makes it a little easier to accept..

there will be a little honeymoon period but we will make it!!

Hey Ya'll Revshoney just had to chime in.......as I am diligently working to pack for our first trip in the rv to Half Moon Bay (I guess truthfully I can see that every night hehehe) I just have to say.... I am excited about this new adventure...life is an adventure after all. For all of my lady friends here on AFA there is an island in the kitchen and lots of space......so it does not seem to small or tight living....
I'm glad you are enjoying yourself, RevsHoney!!!

revrandy does not feel the call to be an evangelist. Maybe the Lord has plans for randy, but hasn't told randy. :)

Did you go back for RevHoney's or did you charter on another one?

Speaking of boats, are you going to have to sell your boat now that you are living in an RV park?

What a sight to log off with.

I hope I don't have nightmares!

Looks like a blast was had by all. I wanted to go fishing in Oregon but with 6-8 foot waves and 35 mpg winds I thought it was a wee bit too choppy for me.

V-Hull... but from what I've heard talking with other folks is that Bayliner Hulls are fairly unstable... seems I bought before I thought... that happens sometimes...

We lived in a 33' motorhome for a year and travelled all over the U.S. and Canada. It was wonderful! We had 3 children who were school-age and we home schooled them for that year.

I found that in the beginning it was great but as the year wore on our living quarters seemed more cramped and I was longing for a real home.

I remember looking at the homes we passed with pretty curtains and soft light filtering through in the evenings and I longed for that - and for stability.

Hope you have a great experience with yours Rev. However long you live this way you'll have some awesome wonderful memories that will last a lifetime - particularly for your children! :)
