a friend of mine bought a subscription to "Answers" magazine (from Answers in Genesis) for our local public library. They returned all of the copies of it to her unopened because - in their words - they had nothing available on their shelves to counter-balance this belief.

What has happened???? Are we NOT a CHRISTIAN nation?????? You can't have Christian material in a library unless you can counter-balance it with heathenism?????

Oh Lord, be merciful. Spare our country if only for the sake of a few!

I know.... Just try to find a copy of American Review! If they even have it it is buried under Times, Newsweek, and People.

But on ANOTHER note, I would LOVE to see Answers in Genesis balanced a bit by the good people at Reasons to Believe on 99% of the Christian stations! :)

It might be time to hand deliver them.

I would go up there and use the computer/card catalog to find a few dozen books on evolution and plop them on the counter and ask them why they feel that there isn't any material to balance the magazines.

Unfortunately this is so true for many libraries. I'm blessed in our area to have a huge section of Christian material.

That's what I was thinking!

They probably have a copy of the Koran.

Good idea, but that is like going against the School Board. They look at you like you are dumb.

Is there a way to check and see if libraries have to accept a certain amount of subscriptions? That would be interesting to know if they have to follow some guidelines on that.

I know they have them for ordering and throwing out books.

Oh Lord, be merciful. Spare our country if only for the sake of a few!No, America is not - and has never been - a Christian nation. Just because some of the original colonies were Puritan colonies means nothing! First of all, the UPC (and I'd venture to say a great many other Apostolics) don't consider trinitarians to be saved. Second, there were no Apostolic colonies. Third, if you actually read the Constitution and look at the form of government it established, you'd see that there is nothing Christian about it. In fact, it was based in philosophies of ancient Greece, ancient Rome and the so-called "Enlightenment."

That sounds messed up. First of all the library should be FULL of atheistic/evolutionary books. Second let them GET counter balance. Third why do they NEED a counter balance to begin with? That seems circular...if someone bought the counter balance for them would they refuse it because they did not have an Answers magazine already? You have to start somewhere

I thought that it was especially interesting because when I opened the first issue of Answer Magazine, on the second page there was a picture of a cover from TIME magazine promoting evolution. Answer Magazine, of course, was giving their rebuttal to the TIME article. I know for a fact that we carry TIME magazine at our library.

the problem is that the head librarian is such a wimp that she'll keep something like this off the shelf rather than risk having someone make a stink over it being there - not like anyone would!!!! She calls herself a Christian, but frankly I have always wondered. Is that terrible of me? I just think that if she were truly Christian, she would be looking for every possible opportunity to promote Christ - not work hard at hiding our lights under a bushel.

LOL! Silly me.
In reading the title of this thread, I "thought" that someone might've stumbled across a huge roach in the kitchen or something.

My mistake.

Carry on.

I would take it higher up than the librarian. She doesn't own the library.I thought it was censorship free? Check into it.I doubt she has a choice
but to accept the magazines.

Their bylaws look pretty much like the ACLU. :D
