Some things just interest me...
I saw a news segment this morning about Eddie Murphy's Oscar nomination and mentioned to my mom about his Apostolic upbringing.
In his youth, EM rode the bus to church in Freeport, NY...not sure how long he was a part of the Sunday School/church there, but he is still close friends with the pastor, Bishop Ronald Carter and gives to the church (COOLJC).
Also, re Bishop Carter, he once played for Ruby and the Romantics back in the day. If you like oldies and know the song Our Day Will Come, that's Bishop C on the organ.
Rev. Ike was COOLJC, as was the late Sam Cooke (You Send ME)...and I think Toni Braxton, though I may have her confused with someone else.
I know the late gospel great, Rev. James Cleveland, was raised by his Sanctified grandmother...not sure if she was Apostolic or COGIC.
Model/actress, Grace Jones, was Apostolic...
Does anyone know of anyone else?! It matters not for my interest if the upbringing was not Apostolic. Just wonderin' if you know who was raised Pentecostal...

It was rumored Denzel Washington was attending a PAW church once I believe I heard. (Thad would know more!)

It was Bishop Blake's and it's COGIC...still Pentecostal but not Apostolic.
I'm interested in both so will add to my first post that point...

I heard him on Letterman one night talking about the feeling of euphoria that comes over him when he stands before a crowd and they are applauding. He said that the only thing he can compare it to is the good feeling he used to have in an old Pentecostal altar service as a kid. Kind of a strange analogy, but it was interesting coming from him!

Carey: Yeah. Actually, I wasn't. I was raised Protestant, and I went to Pentecostal church when I was 13. I got saved when I was 13, and you know the feeling when you're at the altar call, and you're filled with the Holy Spirit and you feel like you're floating?
Tavis: I've been there.
Carey: That's what it felt like.
Tavis: Right.
Carey: That's exactly what it felt like. And it's hard to explain to people who haven't had that kind of experience, but it's all pure emotion. Phil Jackson of the the famed Chicago Bulls and now the Lakers coach. Was Pentecostal, today he is a confessed Buddist.
Robert Duvall while being interviewed in 1997 when the movie the Apostle was released talked about members of his family being Pentecostal.
He stated he believed in speaking in Tounges.
He actually influenced parts of the movie it the church scenes...

Gary LeVox lead singer of Rascal Flatts is from Ohio and is a few years younger than I.
One of my Best Friends Bill Price is now a pastor in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Where his Dad Eugene Price Pastored for serveral years in the 1970, 1980 up until his passing.
When Bill Price was traveling around Ohio with his Christian Music group.
A younger guy kept showing up at show after show just wanted to learn how to play keyboards and sing.
He did sing a few times with Bill and his band back in those days.
He told Bill Price all I want to do is sing.
Years later he found himself having that chance and now he is in one of the most popular bands.
His roots are in the UPCI, has spoke in tounges and is Baptized in JN.
Scott Stapp, former lead singer of the band Creed, was raised in a Pentecostal church but rebelled as a teenager. Went to a AG bible colleg and was kicked out for smoking Marijuana.

I didn't know about his family members...my understanding is that when researching for the movie, he visited a lot of Pentecostal churches, in particular, UPCI.

I am personal friends with their mother! Their dad was a UPC evangelist at one time! They grew up playing and singing in a UPC church.
Their mom is proud of their success, but it's sad really! :dunno

I saw them on Leno one night. Their mom used to be our insurance agent's secretary before she moved to Nashville. Their aunt (mom's sister) and her family attend our church. Eddie knew them all (mom/aunts) from TN youth camps when they were kids.
