View Full Version : Might have to cancel church due to ice storm

I have been watching the weather reports and it looks like we have a very good chance of getting slammed with a major ice storm which is suppose to start at around 2am. I wouldn't worry too much about it if it were snow, but since it will ice, I may cancel service. We are supposed to get 1/4 to 1/2 inch of ice!!!
Mrs MOW just came up to me and asked me if I was like a school boy who thought he might get a "snow day." :killinme
My answer was, "No way! I just don't want anyone to get hurt or end up in the ditch"
Was I telling the truth? :D
We hardly ever cancel service (maybe once a year in Feb), but for ice, I will.

I think that's smart bro.
Some folks are so 'stubborn' (meant as a compliment) that they'd come even if the weather was bad, but if you cancel service, they will have no reason to come and actually stay home and be safe.
I, however, am not one of those stubborn people.... especially since people in Austin can't even drive in the rain, much less the ice. I'm not getting on the roads and putting my life in their hands.

We are under a winter storm alert...the weather man is predicting 6-9 inches of snow between 4am-midnight Sunday.
We might just have church here...mom can sing, I'll preach and take the offering...:heeheehee

I smell a consipiracy sinceince you cancelled for the Super Bowl a couple weeks back.. (j/k)
I'm certain that there wasn't much church attendance during inclimate weather during the horse and buggy days..
btw,
MOW,
Did you get a chance to catch the Joel Osteen Express in Cleveland Friday?
When we left Cleveland this morning it was sunny, a bit cold, but bearable, nice weather around 9am...

No, I missed it. I like JO, but not that much. :D He does pretty good for a guy who never wanted to be in the ministry.
It was my son's b-day present. We took the family and made it an overnight event. My daughter loved the fact that the Q is where Lebron James plays basketball. It was much better than the Million Dollar March at the upci general conference.

Wimps! If ol cali' monkey can weather storms for church so can you, you big babies!! tic
True story..a friend has some folks in his church who NEVER come out to church if there is a flake of snow. One day during a MAJOR SNOWSTORM he spotted them driving down the road with newly purchased appliances on their truck. So he flagged them over and kindly stated that during the next storm, he expected them at church. They have been faithful ever since!

Bro MOW, trust you and family will be safe and warm through the ice. Heres a little somethin' to help thaw you out...
Come 'n listen to my story 'bout a man named MOW
A poor Yankeeneer, who was tired of the snow
And then one day, he was thinking’ of what to do.
Then he thought, “I’ll just move away from here.”
Snow, that is, ice cold, Ugly ice.
Well, the first thing you know,
old MOW’s eatin grits,
Kin folk said, “Jed, move to where its warm”
Said, “Alabam’s the place you oughta be”
So he boarded up the church and moved to warmer climes
Hills , that is, possum stew, collard greens

Could have been a power surge that tripped the breakers on some circuits, but some circuits (ie., lights) remained closed.

I have to work tomorrow. Sadly, they won't call and cancel my shift. I can be assured of that.
We are forecasted to receive 8-12 inches of snow with locally greater amounts. Good thing I have to only travel two miles to work in the morning! :D
I don't have school on Mondays, which is cool since we are supposed to have snow til Monday night also. Tuesday will have me worried though, but I'll wait and see.
Church cancelled here? ROFL! This is Wisconsin!!!

I have not checked myself but wa told all breakers are good.
Was thinking that maybe one of the wires coming in to building was broke.
I think it's called phases. Had it happen on my house once..had power , but all lights were dim. One of the three wire leads was broken.

You need a PhoneTree. You record a message and it call EVERYONE on the list automatically. I use it all the time. It will leave a message on their machine and it will continue to call until all messages have been received. Pretty slick.
So, if I get up in the morning and it is as bad as I think it will be, I just head to the church, record the message, hit the button, and SLIDE back home!!! :D

Walt and I were just discussing whether church will be cancelled because of the ice storm we're supposed to be getting overnight. I wonder..........
MOW, don't you have this PhoneTree thing at home too? Sounds like you're gonna wish you did!!
When I lived in Owosso, Michigan they used to get big snow storms - I mean BIG!!!! When the snow was up to the bottom of my car windows, I would just look out at it and call into work for the day. One day we had a big ice storm. I just went out, climbed in the car and drove slowly until I got to work. I unlocked the place and waited for everyone to show up. When they didn't, I called the boss to find out why. He laughed. He said, "We get a little snow and you can't make it in. But we get ice covering everything and you somehow get there. Amazing. Must be because you're from Ohio." He then told me that everytime he had ever been to Toledo, he had had to drive through during an ice storm. I told him he should consider coming in the summer!!! duh!

Dediced to have church after all. I got out at 6am and drove to the church and the roads had been salted. So other than having to clean off the cars, it won't be too bad!!!
Preaching on "A Time For Enlightenment!" A message on how important natural vision is to live, but how much more important it is to have spiritual vision and be able to hear the Lord!!!!
Y'all drive careful now!!!!

Church was cancelled here at 8am. I was supposed to go to work but I was sick last night from 9pm to about 9am. This is the first time I've called in for being sick in a very long time. I hate putting people in a bind too. I think it's my gall bladder!

I went to LadyRev's to help her shovel. She just bought a snowblower last night, so she did that while I shovelled a bit. We were out for about two hours and our arms are sore!
We pick up some food and a couple movies and head back to my house. The pastor calls at 5pm to say he's having service, but we aren't going. We are exhausted!
