View Full Version : Cows, telephone poles, and wheat fields
Kansas....
My family didn't like it too much but I enjoyed our trip through the Sunflower state.
There were a lot of cows, telephone poles, and wheat fields. Oh yeah, and rock fence post.
We stopped to eat in Salina and I thought of CS and LCS.
It was about 7:30 p.m.and we were starved and searching for a good resturant.
Not knowing anything about the area we decided to try the "Ponderosa Steak House" .........HUGE MISTAKE!
My ribeye was only about 3/8" thick and as tough as shoe leather....beef jerky at best.
They never did get it cooked to my request but it's flavor stayed with me for the next 7 hours.
Not wanting to be a bad witness in CS's territory I kept my complaints to myself and endured the meal.
Next time we're in the area we will call the CS

Every Ponderosa I've ever been to is a dump.
There's two near where I grew up.
BLECHK!

Many years ago we ate at a Ponderosa in Orlando that was okay so we thought we would try it this time since we didn't know where the next place would be to eat and we had not eat since 7 that morning.
We should have waited!
A few miles down the road there was a Chili's, Applebys, and etc.

I'd rather eat at a Waffle House than a Ponderosa... and my friend, THAT is an insult to Ponderosa.

I would eat at a Ponderosa before an Old Country Buffet..... Which is where most of the farmer population around here eat out at. I hate buffets!
We DID go to an excellent buffet once. Of course it was at the Gold Nugget in Vegas......

Our daughter refers to Waffle House as "Choke and Puke"
Ponderosa was not our desired choice but we did not see the ads for anything else UNTIL after we had got back on the road.
My idea of a steak when not doing them at home is Outback or something along that line.
Several have posted about Ruth Chris . Maybe day when we save enough food stamps we'll give them a try.

I know what you mean but actually from Hays to Salina there were some beautiful rolling hills.

On I-70? How rolling are we talking about? I'm headed that direction soon and rolling hills make me sick.

I don't understand why everyone says Kansas is flat. We drove through there back in January and there were lots of hills. Pretty desolate though.
The only thing good about Kansas is my friend, Johnny Carroll.

Not bad .
They are not like the Smokies and definitely not the Rockies!
We have similar scenery here in North Central Texas.
In the past I had only traveled in western Kansas and was surprised to see the change in the lay of the land....very pretty.
When we lived in NE Georgia our family and friends could not belive that Georgia had hills and yes a few little mountains. They thought Georgia was
flat as in south Georgia.
If your headed west on I-70 past Denver and hills make you sick then you will have a very miserable trip. Now those are some nice mountains!
Have fun!
