Where do you believe the soul and the spirit reside in a person?
OR do you believe they are the same?
Where do you believe the soul and the spirit reside in a person?
OR do you believe they are the same?I believe that heart (seat of emotions), soul (psyche) and mind (thought processes) are all intertwined but I believe the spirit is that which makes humans alive and sentient.

So are you saying the soul is in the mind and the spirit is in the breathe?
So are you saying the soul is in the mind and the spirit is in the breathe? What Genesis refers to as "the breath of life" is the spirit but I don't think the spirit is what we call the breath.

What do you think it is?

They are just terms associated with something.
Terms is terms and I don't think it matters as long as one of em gets to heaven.

the bible tells us "life is in the blood". the bible also says "out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water." Heb 4:12 also says "word of God is sharp...dividing soul and spirit. From these scriptures, I believe the soul and spirit are theoretically one force. Spirit is what soul is made of. Spirit is to soul what marrow is to bone. That being said, spirit/soul fills our being, from our physical brain through our blood to all of our body including "the breath" that fills our lungs and bellies. The spirit/soul is a reflection of our physical body and animates it.

If Heb 4:12 says the Word can divide Soul and Spirit, then they are not one and the same. The Spirit is the "doorway" to the spiritual realm for humans, and the BODY is the doorway to the physical realm for the human. The SOUL is the real YOU.
The spirit is what is born again in salvation, and what died in Adam the day he sinned.

Where? I don't think there is a where. We are body, soul and spirit...we are a unity of all three. It's not like we have a compartment someplace where we put the soul and another where we put spirit. We just are.
I see the spirit as the breathe of life that creates our soul and animates our bodies ... it comes from God..
The Hebrew of Genesis 2:7 (“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”) is stronger than the English reader might perceive. It really defines what a man is. If I restate the verse, using a punctuation more attune to the Hebrew meaning, you might see what is intended: “And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became: a living soul.” That is, man came into being when God blew into the body the breath of life (spirit), and man is a living soul.
I also believe that this life force [spirit] returns to God at death ...
Ecclesiastes 12:7 Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was: and the spirit shall return unto God who gave it.
Our soul is eternal and is our INNER MAN.
Our body of course is our flesh and OUTER MAN.

In short...
You are a soul. Adam BECAME a living soul.
You are given life and animation by your spirit. Body without spirit is a dead body.
You are given a mateial body that you may have contact with the material world.

The soul is the mind, will or emotions of man, so I think it's centered in the mind. The spirit is the "pnemua" or "breath of God". Just like God breathed into Adam and he came alive, He breathed into the upper room with a rushing mighty wind and gave them spiritual life again, since Adam and Eve had given it away.

The concensus seems to be leading towards the breath is His Spirit, however, we have breathe BEFORE we receive His Holy Spirit. Knowing that where would His spirit reside IN us?

Knowing that where would His spirit reside IN us?Just my personal opinion, but I think His spirit totally invades our beings; I don't think you can say it's in a certain part of our physical body.

You've either got a good spirit, or a bad spirit... (that's saying it as nice as I can say it..) I think that this goes along with what Sherri posted above...

The soul is two inches to the right of the heart and the spirit is approximately where the solar plexis is.
