Don't you just HATE getting forwards in your email box? Here's one that could make a difference.

This is legitimate. Please read, and spread the word.

In January 2007, Senators Olympia Snowe (R-ME) and Mary Landrieu (D-LA) and Representative Rosa L. DeLauro (D-CT) reintroduced the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act of 2007 (S. 459/H.R.758). The bill would allow a woman and her doctor to decide whether she should recuperate for at least 48 hours in the hospital or whether she has enough support to get quality care at home following this emotionally and physically difficult surgery.

Last fall, as part of the network's Stop Breast Cancer for Life campaign, Grammy- nominated singer-songwriter Jewel, joined by Lifetime executives, delivered more than 12 million signatures to Congress calling for an end to the cruel practice of sending women home without a sufficient recovery period, sometimes just hours after their mastectomy.

And since then we have collected nearly 5 million more!

Sign the petition to urge Congress to pass the Breast Cancer Patient Protection Act of 2007 (S. 459/H.R.758) to ensure no more women are forced to experience a "drive-through" mastectomy.

What's next ... a bill ending "drive-thru" circumcisions ....exempting men from their weekend duties in completing their "Honey Do" lists?

This is a very nice gesture and has all kinds of feely goody tingleys involved with it but this is nothing that the Federal government has any business making legislation about.

This has "feel good" written all over it but does not need legislation.
The fact that Olympia Snowe and Mary "baby fat" Landrieu are co-sponsors speaks volumes as well.

Why must every single aspect of our lives be regulated ...

The reality is many more procedures .... whatever type .... are becoming more sophisticated and less evasive requiring less post-op recovery or care... [even the post-partum stays have shortened incredibly]

throw in rising health care costs, insurance payouts and a demand for hospital beds ...

and you have the present state of affairs ...

I really don't think this an issue is "evil doctors" throwing out "defenseless women" back to their homes filled w/ insensitive and barbaric wolves waiting for a home-cooked supper.

Why would a doctor risk his license and financial security if threatened by a lawsuit by sending a patient home prematurely?

The problem here is in the home, IMO.

I think it shows how out of control the insurance companies are. It should never have been necessary, but the insurance companies are too large for an individual to fight.

Yes sir...

The basic mindset is one that pervades America today. "There oughta be a law" is so quickly uttered that it makes ones mind swim.

There is another thread on Katrina and the failings of our society in that scenario. This legislation is FAR removed from the problems that are in South Louisiana but the basic mindset is truly akin to some of the major problems with our society today.

The government is where we run.

Then the emotional acrobatics begin and someone who stands against a bill like this is tagged as "against women" and the game of manipulating the American psyche kicks in full swing.

Do we have a MORONIC POST OF THE DAY award???

Cause you would definitely win it with this post!

Like circumcision even comes close to comparing to a mastectomy!

Give me a break! Are you married???????????????????? :sos

LOLROTF!
LadyRev is married to a "late in life" circumcised husband that would definitely agree with me on this comparison! Unless of course the dude being circumcised is a pansy! :killinme

This comparison is kinda like comparing a wart removal with an appendectomy! :slaphappy

I agree. Too much regulation already. I chose to leave the hospital 24 hours after delivering my child. I was fine, my child was fine, and I was comfortable with taking care of her. My pediatrician discouraged it and said "your insurance will cover you for another 24 hours." Like I'm supposed to stay there just because my insurance will cover it. Please. And we wonder why health care costs continue to increase. If you have complications, the doctor will talk to your insurance company to get additional time covered. There are probably a few cases where this is difficult, but we don't need to pass more laws.
