When I was a youth, we always sang the "Pentecostal Conqueror" song at rallies and revivals. We even had to march to it at times. Does anyone still sing this song? I haven't heard it in years!!!

We are the Pentecostal Conquerors,
The world shall hear our conquering tread.
Each day we're gaining, new heights attaining,
There is victory ahead.
We shall march for forward then as conquerors,
don't remember this part but it continues with something about
our banner unfurled and then
We shall evangelize the world.

It's been almost 50 years since I've heard or sung that.

I don't believe that anyone sings it any more.... but I do remember singing it at Youth Rallies and Friday night youth service. :choir

We are the Pentecostal Conquerors
The world shall hear our conqueroring cry.....

If my memory serves me correctly, it was the UPC Youth Division theme song... In those days, the "Youth Division" was 12 - 35 and was called the Conquerors. We didn't have "singles"; "college & career"; "young marrieds". If you were in the 12-35 age bracket - you were in the youth group. :killinme

Now I remember the lines you supplied but there was also something about a banner unfurled and an ending line like "We shall evangelize the world."

Maybe there were more than one verse and maybe there was a chorus also.

The folks that talk about the good old days and the good old songs probably aren't thinking of this one.

Bleh. Used to have to sing that song at every church-school graduation, and special events. Had to walk in from the back of the church, down the middle isle with the US Flag and the flag with the Cross on it, during the song. Then we'd do the pledge to the flag, followed by the pledge to the Bible.

The song was copyrighted in 1949 by The Pentecostal Publishing House. I have the Sing Unto The Lord Song book which has it in it. Hang on and I will type it out as it is in there.

The Conquerors March

1.
We shall march forward and as conquerors
We dedicate our lives to Him
And by His spirit that dwells within us
Over every foe we’ll win
We shall march forward and as conquerors
Our banners we shall keep unfurled
And by His power His Holy Spirit
We shall evangelize the world
2.
The gospel message we shall ever tell
And day by day we will live it too
Lord keep us ever so meek and humble
That thy will we’ll gladly do
This gospel message we shall gladly tell
Because we know it won’t be long until His coming
In clouds of glory and we shall sing the conquerors song
3.
Thru battles fierce we’ll march triumphantly
His loyal soldiers brave and true
His hand is guiding in Him abiding
We shall press the battle thru
Like Paul of old we then can humbly say
When life on earth comes to an end
I’ve fought the fight I’ve kept the faith
A crown of righteousness to win
CHO
We are the Pentecostal Conquerors
The world shall hear our Conq’ring tread
Each day we’re gaining new heights attaining
There is victory ahead
We are the Pentecostal Conquerors
We’ll triumph over every foe
It’s not by might nor yet by power
But by His Spirit as we go

I can hear my pastor's wife sitting on the Hammond B-3 singing this song as we hosted that month's youth rally. Or she would sing it as we received a SFC offering. Or she would break it out when there was something related to young people. I can't say it was wildly popular with my peers (late 70s-mid 80s). BUT IT WAS WILDLY POPULAR WITH HER!!!!!!!!!!!

As RevRandy has already said, in Oklahoma we would sing that song to death... every youth rally and every youth service during the offering. We were militants for Christ's sake!

I think the 21st century version of the song is one (can't remember the name of it) that contains these lyrics as a chant "I am a Soldier... and I'm Marching into war!"

I was thinking the same things, DT. I didn't know it had verses. But I remember belting it out in the church van on our way back from Youth Rallies in neighboring cities. I say 'neighboring' TIC, by the way. We were in Toledo and it was not at all unusual for us to travel to Lima or Findlay or Columbus Grove for a youth rally. Often we would spend more time in the van than we spent at the service.

Barb, it would have been closer for us to travel to some of the churches in Michigan than it was for us to go to places like Columbus Grove. But we didn't cross the state line - ever! The first time I ever attended camp in Michigan was when I was in my 20's. I went with the Well's from Pontiac. Do you remember them? Since the "youth group" used to be 12-35 in UPC, were there activities for this age group in churches or sections or districts? I just remember the camps being geared toward teens, up through high school. Was this age distinction through age 35 only for the benefit of monthly youth rallies? I don't really remember the youth doing anything else in our area.

TN district had a Youth Retreat each year and you had to be 12 to go. It later evolved into more of a family retreat held each Thanksgiving. I liked it when it was the smaller youth group. Also, I think the UPC age limit on a Sectional and/or District youth leader was 35.

We actually used to take kids to the youth retreat in Gatlinburg when we were in Memphis (1980-1984). That's where I met a lot of the Tennessee people that Eddie already knew.
