View Full Version : The Apostolic Compassion: Got my premiere issue
I received the debut issue of the the Apostolic Compass today ... and was proud to see some of the names of my online buddies who collaborated in this historic event.
Too my surprise/chagrin I was expecting a revisiting of the hard-hitting ultra con newsletter of yesteryear, the Apostolic Contender - or as we called it ... the Apostolic Contention.
In perusing through the articles there were no blatant attacks on those that don't keep standards ... and I did not see one mention of TV.
The articles appear to be inspiring, uplifting and appealing to ministerial ethic and integrity. Pastor Carroll wrote a cutesy anecdote about an old hat of his ... while Pastor Groce outlined a well-rounded conservative minded agenda with a focus on fellowship and unity in his Editor's letter.
I would say most of the articles were bible-based and theological in nature. There was one article that was either a re-print, or anonymously written, etitleld: What a Legalist is Not ... it took a few swipes at the "greasy grace abusers" but was relatively soft ... I agree w/ almost all of the points made.
There is also a good bible study on the Cities of Refuge that I will examine in more detail ... it appears to be a bit too PAJC for my taste.
In all, this is not your Daddy's Apostolic Contender ... at least not yet.
It is nicely packaged, well-formatted, well-written and COMPASSIONATE.
Kudos for not touching the TV issue weeks before General Conference and not seeming to have an agenda.
Time will tell.
Keep up the good work ... fellas. I'm proud of you.

Groce we did something wrong Dan is complimenting us. Heaven help. There will from time to time be articles on standards however that is not the main thrust of the Compass. Most of those will probably be in the church edition.
We have many good talented writers with depth. The TV issue might be addressed but since the Compass is not an organ of any group it will not reflect a political position. We certainly have a position but it is not political.
I have read the first church issue and it is certainly edifying also. Elders Groce & Riggen has done most of the work and are doing a excellent job.
In other words ... WHERE'S THE BEEF ???
Way too compassionate and too soft ....
maybe done intentionally to hook us in.
Give us something to talk about .... Apostolic Compassion ... what's that?
LOL.
I got my copy also.
I read it out on the deck this evening.
I recognized the article about the old hat as a post I'd seen on one of these forums.
The article on the cities of refuge was good. That's kinda old fashioned going back to the Old Testament and making present day applications.
I look forward to your articles Elder E ....Of course to dissect and micro-analyze.
You guys deserve a lot of credit .... you and the others on the board of publication.... for setting your minds to doing something and then getting it done ... JUST AWESOME ....

This may be the one offered to the saints.
There will be a ministers version offerred too.
What are the chances of posting articles from this periodical here on AFF? Maybe we could use them to generate discussion.

I am VERY happy to hear this as well! By the way, in Wisconsin it was generally known as the Contentious Contender from the good folk in Portland where I believe it was published.

Maybe they think we're not quite reprobate and there is still hope for us.
I think my copy came Monday.

I especially loved the diatribes on long sideburns ... as they were in vogue among young men in Pentecost ... back in the day.

I appreciate the honest review, Dan. And...I do think your respect for the men you have engaged on this forum who are a part of the Compass is showing through.
We wanted an unashamedly conservative magazine with no political agenda at all. We appreciate your perspective confirming that we are reaching that goal.

I will second Dan's opinion after recieving mine also..
It is very well done for the first issue...
I look forward (No Pun Intended :D) to more...
I also want to say that I have been privilidged to be a member of another forum these fine men post on and while there the same spirit that published this magazine also resides online among them.... I haven't seen any "trash" talk or name calling against other forums and I commend and respect them for that.. most of what I have experienced is men who love the Word of God and enjoy discussing it..

What I remember the most about it was how often the words TV, and Television, and Video appeared in it -and yes, always in BOLD.

The "old hat" article was not "old hat" but up-to-date and contemporary.
It conveyed a good message.

Bro Strange, I have forwarded your address to the man doing the mail-outs....Bro Amos's as well.
Our initial attempts to collect addresses ran into some glitches and I think we lost some of the earliest sign-ups. If you were one of the early ones to sign up through Bro Groce, that's possibly what happened. I remember him asking people on another forum to resubmit.
