View Full Version : Ephesians 4:5 One Baptism
It says in Ephesians 4:5 One Lord, one faith, one baptism.
We know what the faith & one Lord is, but which Baptism are they speaking of?
Is the One Baptism the baptism of Water in Jesus name, or the Baptism of the Holy Ghost?
It does say "One Baptism" does it not?;)
All theologians and wannabe's are welcome to post.

I believe the ONE baptism HERE is water because of the foundation of this church Acts 19 for they had to be rebaptized. However it is said by Marvin Hicks and others this ONE baptism has two elements of water and Spirit. The writer of Hebrews does acknowledge the doctrine of 'baptisms.'

I agree with Marvin Hicks.
Why the differing views from Pauls Epistle, and the book of Hebrews chapter six
Elder?
Could it be the doctrine of "Baptisms" is talking about the "Baptism" unto repentance that John the Baptist did, and "Water Baptism in Jesus name for the remission of sins" that Peter preached?
Remember, all those who were baptised by John before Pentecost were rebaptised in Jesus name.

I think Paul is clearly up the fact ONLY ONE baptism in water IN Jesus Name is for the church thus John's baptism was outdated the rebaptism in Acts 19 was at Ephesus!
The 'baptismS' in Heb. are water & spirit & maybe suffering or fire?

Yes, most definitely Elder.
Water Baptism in Jesus name is the "Only" one for the the New Testament Church.
You bring up interesting questions about "Baptisms" of fire & sufferings.
I believe it warrants some discussion.

Jesus spoke of being baptized with the baptism he was baptized with which I think at that time he was speaking of his sufferings? Which to me would be maybe fire?

Did not John the Baptist say that Jesus would come and Baptize us with the Holy Ghost and with fire?
Yes, the disciples all suffered persecution & all of the Apostles save one, were martyred!
Was not the "Baptism by fire" fulfilled on the day of Pentecost when the Holy Ghost fell for the first time and cloven tongues like fire fell?
Just questions Elder.

I think we all must go through a baptism of fire to purge us from ourselves.
Every man's work must be tried as by fire.
The trying of your faith. Tried as by fire.
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire.
He shall be like a refiner's fire.
Fire is an ingredient in the Tabernacle like water and oil and blood!
It consumes the sacrifice.
