When I first heard of the Newsboys, I was at a Stephen Curtis Chapman concert that the Newsboys opened up for him in Nashville, TN. It was in the 80's and "shine" was the hit. (We actually WENT to see Stephen Curtis Chapman....we had not heard of the newsboys at the time)
I remember the lead singer comming out in front and he had on this suit that I could only describe looked like he was wearing an entire suit made of REYNOLDS WRAP!
He got out in front of this huge light and staarted singing "shine". LOL! That was the most fun I had at a christian concert in a long time. When he first came out in that suit, I was laughing so hard, I literally fell down on the ground laughing!
Another thing that was hilarious, was that the musicians all bobed their heads up and down in time to the music so hard it looked like their head was gonna fall off their body! I never figured out HOW they even was able to play like that! I could have never done it.
I don't have to look at my instrument, but I don't think I could play my guitar with my head bobbing up and down...I would probably get dizzy after a while! LOL!
So does anyone remember who I am talking about?

Yeah, had to be 90s, cuz it's still the same lead singer and he's only in his 30s, I believe.
I went to a Newsboys concert here in town a couple of months ago for my friend's birthday, and it was really good! First one of theirs that I'd been to. The drum contest at the end is CRAZY!! :woot

Quick question, why are ya'll talking about the Newsboys in past tense???
These guys are still rockin out so hard it must hurt. I love them alot. Their music blesses me greatly. I'm really enjoying their two latest hits:
"Something Beautiful"
Oh my goodness! This is my absolute favorite!!! Me encanta mucho!!! Also, an amazing video!!!
http://youtube.com/watch?v=K5xuRcW4bvM
"Where The Party's At"
First of all, I am not a huge fan of Anime (the asian cartoon), but I do appreciate whoever took the time to put Newsboys music to it...it's very interesting, to say the least. =D Plus, it was the only video for this song I could find, so please bear with me...

P.S. Peter Furler's mah man!!!

I hope I didn't sound rude. I wish I could've seen that concert! I've actually never been to any of their performances, but I'm sure there'll be plenty of opportunity in the coming years.

I don't buy them. I download the songs I like. I like the worship style songs, not the harder stuff.

Ah, the Newsboys...
First album for me was "Not Ashamed"
I bought "Going Public" and "Take Me To Your Leader"
After "Stepping Up To The Microphone" I stopped listening to them.
For me, "Take Me To Your Leader" is their best record. The band was pure energy during this period. I saw them play with Third Day in '97. If heir energy could have been harnessed that night, they could have lit up Disneyland for the night.
The band lost it's hard rock edge when John James left the band. They're good, but they've never been the same.
Hope nobody minds a resurrection of an old thread.

Shine is my favorite.
+1! I still remember them opening up for Steven Curtis Chapman in Nashville and that singer wearing that "reynolds wrap" suit while singing shine!
First time I ever heard it.
I never COULD figure out how they headbanged so much and STILL played their instruments perfectly! I could not play my guitar if my head was moving up and down like the whole bands was that night!

I only saw it on video, so I thought that it was enhanced or something. I can't believe they actually played like that. WOW.

Yep, they played like that live!
I don't see how they did it. I guess they were used to doing it. LOL!

I was just in a Christian Bookstore a couple of weeks ago and purchased a Newsboys CD. Got to the counter and the YOUNG man (probably around 20) looked at the CD and then looked at me and said "Ma'am, these guys AREN'T Southern Gospel!" I just looked at him and smiled and replied "I know, I don't LIKE Southern Gospel"! LOL This young man was just trying to help a "little old" Pentecostal lady not waste her husband's hard earned money. It was just too funny! I told my friend, "Here all this time I thought I was COOL!"
Having said that PLEASE don't send me to "the bad place" because I've never really enjoyed it even when I played the piano for a quartet (back in the day) at my church and that's all we had! LOL

Wes Campbell (manager of Newsboys) & Peter Furler (lead singer) were customers at the Bank I worked at when I lived in Franklin, TN, they are both super nice guys with great attitudes. Peter is definently high energy!

I first heard them when I was in HS-- a co-worker gave me one of their cd's to listen to. On that cd, my favorite songs were, "Turn Your Eyes Upon Jesus" and "Lost The Sky Again."
Wish "The Kry" was still making music too.
