A woman on a coupon forum I read & post on just lost her 12 year old son to the "choking game." Another woman posted as well that she lost a child to this "game" in 2004. How tragic! (Another woman posted, saying that it was something that she used to play as a teen.)
Just thought I'd post so that we, as parents, can be aware of this dangerous game.

I've heard of this kind of thing happening, but not with young children.

I've heard about it. I've read about it. I've never known anyone who has experienced losing someone to it personally - and for that I give the Lord thanks!!

There was a huge write-up in the Reader's Digest a few years back about this. I talked to my two older boys right away. I remember playing this "game" in the back of the school bus when we lived in Gresham and then doing it at home in my room by myself. Scary!

Yes Bro B it is very real. My sister and I used to play this all the time when we were teenagers. Thank God we got some sense since then! (well maybe one of us did lol) It is very scary and real and yes our kids need to be made aware and I have talked to my kids about it and I think every parent needs to!

Reading through this makes me wonder how many kids are doing this and hiding it from their parents? Obviously, I have to believe that those of you who admit to having done it yourself probably didn't share that info with your parents. Right?
So what would be the clues for parents to look for??

When I was a teen, we used to do something similar. Not actually choking but pinching a vein in the neck and causing a black out that lasted anywhere from a fraction of a second to about 1 second.
I think I did it ONCE but had a few friends who thought they were Johnny Knoxville and Steve-O and did it constantly, usually falling and causing far more damage from the spill.

I never told an adult! I wouldn't know what to tell you to look for.

This is a similar way that we did it as well. Only we would block off the airway to cause a black out, but never did I hear of anyone actually hanging themself or using anything other than their hands.
