I over heard someone once in a store telling her friend that she was slain in the spirit at a prayer meeting a couple nights before and God told her to join the Catholic church. no lie.

Slain? No.
Vision? Not that I know of.
Dream? Not that I know of. (Lots of vivid color dreams, though! Is that supposed to be an indication?)
Interesting topics. Been thinking about the last two myself, lately. How can one tell if a vision or a dream is from God, really?

I have been slain in the Spirit many times.
I have had 6 or 7 visions/dreams that I know were of God, first off because they came to pass. When I came out of the vision or dream there was a "witness" in my Spirit, I just knew it was of God.
After the first few times that you follow what you believe to be the leading of the Spirit I think you learn to discern what is of God or not. You have to be open that it might not be God. It's a "faith step" that you take, you'll learn what is God's voice and what is your imagination.

I am a man of dreams and visions. Yes I have been "slain in the spirit." I was living in IL and I had been fighting somethings and one night I went to the altar during a gret service and the youth pastor came over and right before he touched my head I saw a flash of bright white light, NO JOKE. His hand was on my head several seconds but I do not remember how long I was out, but I know when I came to that I had an anointing on me. That night I prayed for several others with problem and they were healed. I saw things in the spirit. Things were manifested visably that I could see others could not. It was intense! I was a great night. That was about 7 years ago. If you ask anyone that has gone there for any length of time the will remember that very service. It is called the Night of Breakthrough. It was awesome!

personally, I don't like the term, "slain" in the spirit. My wife has a number of times in her early walk. I haven't had any actual experience of going out and falling while under the influence of the Spirit.
I have seen the phenomanae many times - sometimes very apparently from God and other times seemed to be crowd hysteria.
I have had many "visions" - but none that were trancelike.
I have had maybe 6 or 8 dreams that I would call "spiritual dreams." Each time the dream involved some sort of direction in ministry and was accompanied with a very real sense of being from God and followed with other confirmations.
Can this thread be expanded to include receiving words of prophecy? Most of the time when I am praying for someone I will receive an impression of a word or a phrase. I will pray with the person about that. When I talk to them they will tell me that is right on and what they are going through at the time. It is a blessing to know that God loves us enough that he will reveal himself to us through another person.

I like the term "falling under the Power" better. Yes, "a word of knowledge" and "a word of wisdom" , would certainly fall into the catagory of this thread.

Everybody dreams every night, however the vast majority of all dreams are forgotten when you wake up. Most dreams are black and white. If a dream is from God, you will remember it, and is likely to be in color. It will be very vivid, and will probably stay heavy on your spirit for at least a day or two.

Great points, Chicago Pastor, spoken from experience.

It's wonderful to feel that awesome anointing. Jesus never did any miracles
until after He was anointed by the Holy Ghost. (Lk 3:22, Mat 3:16)
Thanks for the details.

Slain in the Spirit - No, but I have seen it happen many times.
Visions- I can only recall - two times that this has happened to me. It was not a trance type experience, but like a veil had been lifted and I got a glimpse into another world.
Dreams - Yes, there have been several times that I have awaken from a dream and felt a strong impression that God was speaking to me from a dream. It usually had something to do with my spiritual walk with Him.
I am glad God is not limited in how He speaks to His children.

BB,
In your description of visions you are describing the operation of one of the gifts of the Spirit. (I Cor 12:10) "descerning of Spirits." When this happens, that person is able to see over into the spirit world. It will seem as though they are seeing with their physical eyes, but actually they are seeing with their spiritual eyes.

I had seen it happen to others and there was a trust factor with me about falling that I would get hurt or God wouldn't catch me when I fell. I prayed and asked God to help me trust him enough to let it happen to me. One evening as I was praying at the altar I felt myself go over and it felt like I fell into a giant feather pillow. I felt safe, protected, and loved. It was an awesome experience for me.
Blessings, Rhoni

I have a few times. One of the times, I literally could not speak English. This went on for 2-3 hours.
My entire group of friends spent that time with me and they asked me several questions.
All I could do was smile and close my eyes and speak in tounges.
When that happened All I know is I did not care if anyone believed it to be true.
For those who do don't like the term "Slain int he Spirit" Changed it to being "Baptized in the Spirit"
It was a great time....
