While living in Haneywood, a friend asked me to attend a "MO Mens Conference" with him. I had never been to one so I drove the 2 hours with him to get there for the last night and hear the preaching. Unbeknowance to me, this was one of those Payment Plan meetings. So I am setting there, and some bozo gets up just prior to the offering and states that "if you have not registered, then you need to go and pay your registration fee, or you are stealing, and stealers will go to hell". I very carfully got up, and walked out of the "show", and talked to my Mom on the cell while the "show" continued on inside the banquet hall of the hotel. It was not about the money. It was the principle of the matter.

You are correct, Felicity. Bishop1 definitely has a way of cutting to the chase in his posts. And those who have not posted on these forums much would not know of his integrity as a man, and a minister. I was just trying to let them know that Bishop1 has never been one to post something forthright if he was not able to also back up what he stated.

Any time the people who are supposed to be served are takenn out of the loop and dictated to, there is restlessness, disagreement and eventually exodus. It has happened over and over in the org and looks like it will coninue to happen.

I think freely received, freely give applies to sharing the gospel with someone, not people gathering for a promotional social business function. I think they need to charge more than they do though.

My family and I went to one of the GC services and one of Joel Osteen's meetings. My father in law and Acts 2:38 Bible thumper said there was more of God's presence in the JO meeting than at the GC. If GC's are like 2006 GC, it won't be worth $25.... btw Joel Osteen's Cleveland tour stop costs $10 per ticket... That paid for the rent of the building.

There's notning wrong with people getting together to celebrate their life together in Christ and the church. When you charged for PREACHING you have violated the NT principle. If you want to have a supper or fellowship time then fine but when preaching is incorporated in the mix then I'm sorry it just goes against the way the early church did it.

I can understand some events where folks would pay to get in (like Ladies' Conferences, for example, where everyone receives a syllabus and handouts and folders, etc.) However, I think that GC should always be free. It should be the one gathering that's "sacred." Everyone can come. Even the home missionaries who have to scrape up just enough to pay for a motel and food, without having the added worry of paying more at the door.

I know who Bishop is. I have been on these forms for three years. I am not the most prolific poster but I do know who he is and his past posting. His past posting about the UPC have made me just as upset. Yes, I respect him. However, I think he is a little too jaded about the UPC.

Did you know Edward Kelly from Birmingham? He pastored their for many years. he left the UPC towards the end back in early to mid 80's. He was a great man of God and a great friend of my Dad and our family.

We have had this on this forum I believe. But PP here is the frustrating thing wholehearted who is a licence dues paying member(which I do not know) is knocked for belonging and being negative. Us folks outside are knocked for being anti thus being negative. Here is Bishop 1 who has had a long standing relationships with most shots in the organization who has any age on them and if he knocks he is a liar. I think organizations are fair game including the one I belong to. I will either defend it or be silent as an oyster in shame.
