Yes! TR Mack. We will never see his likes again. Full of life and the Holy Ghost. In his day he could whoop like a wild Commanche and wake up all the sleepy saints on the pews ahead of him. He loved God, his family, and his church. Whenever you stayed at his house, when all the kids were at home, you could expect to be awakened to pray at 5:00 or 6:00 in the morning and if you didn't get up he returned with a belt!!! Laughing all the while. He will be sorely missed here but I'm sure he's still causing quite a stir on the other shore.
Some people make you richer for having known them and Travis McDonald was such a one.

Amen...I was on the committee planning Sis. Wilson's b'day party at the church many years ago. I called Bro. McDonald and asked if he would make a cassette tape recalling some things from her youth.

He told about the time when she was very young that she baptized 23 baby chicks...drowned them all!! We played it during the b'day service and she loved it.

Truer words were never spoken.... What a man. He was still driving a Sunday School bus bringing children to church well into his 80s. I never thought we would see him pass away. His greatest desire was to meet the Lord in the Rapture and I truly thought Jesus would come before Brother "Mac" died. And as you mentioned.... he could let out a warhoop that would raise the dead. :nod I've seen many a saint jump out of their skin when he did that. :killinme

A true warrior and man of God!!!! Yes, he will be missed! Pray especially for his wife, Sister Lois. She will truly have a rough time adjusting to life without him.

Survived by children: John McDonald, Joy Haney, Janet Jones, Priscilla McGruder, Mary Wilson, Beverly Davies, Julie (I forget her married name)..
(Raven, did I miss anyone? :tiphat)

I believe you covered them all Sweet Pea. I too don't remember Julie's married name. [That's what she meant Dave] Leaving also many grandchildren who are involved in the ministry. I'll get in trouble for this but he would cater to Mary and she knew how to wrap him around her finger. That's one reason she is as "spoiled" as she is today! :sshhh

It was my observation that all the girls knew how to work him... Maybe Mary just knew a better way.... Do you think even as the kids were grown that he still catered to Mary? I find that interesting...

Good for you lad!
Most of us older ones couldn't think of Julie's last name and we didn't want her to feel "slighted", it's just that she came along later. When she was a baby I spent Christmas vacation with the McDonalds and everytime Julie needed her diaper changed Mary or Priscilla would put her in my lap. I don't believe they have changed yet to this day.

Warhooopp ditto's for Bro.McDonald...

Forgot to mention he was as tough as nails.... even in his late 70's he could work young men into the ground....:)

It is so odd to hear Sis. Wilson referred to by her first name...I mean, you've known her forever so I am not rebuking you for it. It's just, she was my pastor's wife and we just did NOT even THINK about doing that.

She is so wonderful...I miss her very much...

No disrespect Barb. It's just that we were kids together and still think that way. Oh the stories I could tell! [ but won't ] I just saw your menu on another thread ...... fantastic! It's a good thing Nate [Pastor Wilson] doesn't still live near you or we would have to get a forklift to put him in the ambulance the next time he falls off of his 4 wheeler!!!

LOL!! I know...my Bishop loves to eat...

Are you going to the service?! And did you know Crystal (Sis. Wilson's cousin)?! She was a dear, dear friend...I am here today because she refused to give up on my heathen soul.

A side note...I was thinking about Bro. McDonald yesterday and wrote this...

Thinking about Bro. TR McDonald, I wondered about the measure of greatness...

Some men measure greatness in 'things'...that which can be acquired, held in the hand, or seen with the eye.

But how does God measure greatness?!

Is He impressed with what we think we know or our heritage?! Does He measure greatness by position or status?!

The answers are of course "no." The greatest Mastermind of all said that it wasn't about who would sit at the right or left hand of supposed favor. It wasn't found in riches or fame.

Greatness is found in the heart of a servant...

Wycliffe Bible Commentary reads, “The honors of the right hand and the left hand are not to be passed out to friends as favors. Such reward must go to them for whom it is prepared, that is, to the ones who earn it by faithfulness in life and service.”

As far as I know, Bro. McDonald never stood behind a pulpit, yet he preached to us every day in his daily consecrated walk and the godly character displayed...consistent in his service till the end.

It is this example of selfless giving that caused his children, grands, and generations to come to desire to follow in Christian service.

I am convicned that when the roll call of greateness is called, Bro. TR McDonald will top the list.
