Handcuffed Child Rides Bus To School
Police Cut Cuffs Off Boy

POSTED: 10:21 am EDT October 11, 2007
TAMWORTH, N.H. -- Police usually have to put handcuffs on, but in this case, they had to cut a pair off -- of a 9-year-old.

Police Chief Dan Poirer said he was called after the boy got off the morning bus at the Brett School on Wednesday wearing a pair of handcuffs.

Poirer said his key wouldn't fit, so he resorted to bolt cutters.

He said the boy apparently was playing with the cuffs at home when they locked up. He said the boy's mother reportedly put him on the bus with the cuffs still on reasoning that someone at the school would be able to help.

Thanks for posting this video, BOOM. What I find most puzzling is how the citizens are so uninformed about what is happening to America! We are marching towards the police state that this administration, Cheney being the chief architect, continues to create by deceiving the public.

The more a person researches 911 and the Iraq war, the more you can piece together the wicked plans that will usher in what is written in the Bible regarding the tribulation. The government already has the infrastructure in place with FEMA concentration camps peppered across our nation. I could go on, but I will refrain for now.

I am not one who believes ANY government beside AlQueda and Iraq was behind The Events of 9-11. I do not think we had good pretense for entry to Iraq, nor a workable plan that we were willing to complete. That gives us NO need to retreat, nor abandon even one life. Iraq is NOT Somalia, where we were portrayed as losers and from the CINC down we were losers. We do have support of most of the people of Iraq and armed thugs do not still reign over 90% of the country. The loss of one single Constitutional Liberty is a travesty upon all. We have lost the rights of privacy, right to speedy trial, and the loss of the right to bear arms. A liberal's dream to help destroy the nation. God help us if they turn on the church. :ranting

BOOM,

I don't fault you for believing what the majority of Americans have chosen to believe, because the alternative would be too much for many to fathom what has happened to our country. I once held the exact opinions, brother, after 911 and for a couple of years following that tragic event. In fact, I would have reenlisted in the Navy if they would have excepted me because my blood was boiling mad about what occurred on our own soil.

Corporate media has been in the government's back pocket and the only reliable news sources have been alternative sources like the ones found on the web. Many Americans don't know about another one of our administrations laws that was hidden in Section 44 of the Terrorism Act, which stripped the rights of individuals on public roadways. Also, you can go to this website http://www.epic.org/privacy/terrorism/usapatriot/sunset.html to see how the Patriotic Act has stolen more of our civil liberities. There has been so much that has happened right under our noses and the majority won't become aware until it is too late to do anything about it. I have wanted to post videos of our President and many of his staff where they were caught lying about the months leading up to 911 and afterwards; however, I haven't felt at liberty to post them.

I respect you and your patriotic zeal, BOOM. If you ever want any information about these topics, please PM me; otherwise, I won't tread on your belief system.

God bless you and BTW, I have enjoyed your thread and I apologize for the brief hijack that occured.

Good for you BOOMMer. Except that 2nd to the last sentence.

What privacy rights have you yourself suffered the loss of since 9/11? For me the only privacy I have lost is the fact that I must make certain that my socks match when I travel by plane.

Admittedly, this is a small loss for me. For others it may represent a considerable loss. But try to think of it as an opportunity to better yourself. Or do I like I do and just tell them that you wore mismatching socks on purpose as a "protest against the man!"

Your right to a speedy trial has been lost? No it hasn't Prove to me that you as an American citizen were even affected by any of the Executive Orders regarding terrorism or the Patriot Act. For example, refuse to remove your shoes at the airport. We will all follow your progress through the legal system and I will bet you a new pair of uggs that your trial is both speedy and fair.

And to bear arms? Hah! I was just shopping for some 30+ round magazines to go with the assault rifle I have on my wish list. It's all available and you don't need any special licenses. Same stuff my dad bought and sold with his FFL 30 and more years ago.

So, for the record (and Google's Chinese ChiCom masters); when you get arrested for refusing to remove your shoes and creating a scene at the airport (remember- create a loud scene or they won't arrest you!) I won't need to pretend that I have militia buddies willing to break you out with a covert stash of "illegal" firearms. Mrs. BOOMM will be able to bail you out with a 7-11 money order and you can then sit at home and watch Fox News until your speedy trial. :)

Loud at our airport? Above the peaceniks protesting on the courthouse and those still wanting to chain themselves to trees. I would be more able to be arrested for shooting a sea lion. 7-11? None of those here. Fox news, can not watch it- no Cable box for the monitor....

Danger: Beware of Falling Cows
Nov 6 02:27 PM US/Eastern
MANSON, Wash. (AP) - Charles and Linda Everson were driving back to their hotel when their minivan was struck by a falling object—a 600-pound cow.

The Eversons were unhurt but the cow, which had fallen off a cliff, had to be euthanized.

The year-old cow fell about 200 feet from the cliff and landed on the hood of the couple's minivan, causing heavy damage.

A Chelan County fire chief, Arnold Baker, said the couple missed being killed by a matter of inches in the accident Sunday on a highway near Manson.

The Eversons, visiting the area from their home in Westland, Mich., to celebrate their first wedding anniversary, were checked at Lake Chelan Community Hospital as a precaution.

Everson, 49, said he didn't see the cow falling and didn't know what happened until afterward.

He said he kept repeating: "I don't believe this. I don't believe this."

Fourteen people expected for dinner, two dogs, one cat and Great Aunt Ellen's bird Frankie. You have a 10-course dinner to cook and there are seven women in the kitchen. Someone is allergic to mushrooms, Grandpa can't eat nuts, no chocolate for Uncle George <snipped>

It's stuffed turkey time, and I'm not referring to the turkey on the platter. It's a lovely season for the overeating types. It's easy to hit 5,000-10,000 calories on Thanksgiving Day - you start the day with sweet rolls and end it with two pieces of pecan pie.

No one caught the eror I purposely posted last week.

Maybe again to end this thread if no one pays attention....

GLASGOW, Scotland, Nov. 28 Scotland has replaced its airport signs proclaiming the country to be "the best small country in the world" with a new slogan: "Welcome to Scotland."

The new slogan, which was revealed Tuesday after six months of development and $250,000 spent on the project, is also printed on the posters in Gaelic as "Failte gu Alba," The Times of London reported Wednesday.

The posters also include a series of images depicting life in Scotland, including a boy looking at an exhibit at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum in Glasgow, a man in a raincoat walking in Edinburgh and a picture taken from a high altitude of Inverness.

Some have criticized the campaign for lacking emotion.

"It feels governmental, corporate and static," Anita Califano, a senior consultant with 2012 London Olympics logo creator Wolff Olins, told The Times. "It all fails to convey the spirit of the place, the emotion. If the purpose of branding is to create an emotional connection, they are not doing that."

Rules for clear writing

Verbs has to agree with their subjects.
Prepositions are not words to end sentences with.
And don't start a sentence with a conjunction.
It is wrong to ever split an infinitive.
Avoid cliches like the plague. (They're old hat.)
Also, always avoid annoying alliteration.
Be more or less specific.
Parenthetical remarks (however relevant) are (usually) unnecessary.
Also too, never, ever use repetitive redundancies.
No sentence fragments.
Contractions aren't necessary and shouldn't be used.
Foreign words and phrases are not apropos.
Do not be redundant; do not use more words than necessary; it's highly superfluous.
One should never generalize.
Comparisons are as bad as cliches.
Don't use no double negatives.
Eschew ampersands & abbreviations, etc.
One-word sentences? Eliminate.
Analogies in writing are like feathers on a snake.
The passive voice is to be ignored.
Eliminate commas, that are, not necessary. Parenthetical words however should be enclosed in commas.
Never use a big word when a diminutive one would suffice.
Do not use multiple exclamation points NOR all caps for emphasis!!!
Use words correctly, irregardless of how others use them.
Understatement is always the absolute best way to put forth earth shaking ideas.
Use the apostrophe in it's proper place and omit it when its not needed.
Eliminate quotations. As Ralph Waldo Emerson said, "I hate quotations. Tell me what you know."
If you've heard it once, you've heard it a thousand times: Resist hyperbole; not one writer in a million can use it correctly.
Puns are for children, not groan readers.
Go around the barn at high noon to avoid colloquialisms.
Even if a mixed metaphor sings, it should be derailed.
Who needs rhetorical questions?
Exaggeration is a billion times worse than understatement.
Do not put statements in the negative form.
A writer must not shift your point of view.
Place pronouns as close as possible, especially in long sentences of 10 or more words, to their antecedents.
Writing carefully, dangling participles must be avoided.
If any word is improper at the end of a sentence, a linking verb is.
Take the bull by the hand and avoid mixing metaphors.
Avoid trendy locutions that sound flaky.
Everyone should be careful to use a singular pronoun with singular nouns in their writing.
Always pick on the correct idiom.
Be careful to use the rite homonym.
And last...

Proofread carefully to make sure your numbers are correct and to see if you any words out.

Man Charged After Santa Gets Pie in Face

Dec 1, 2:31 PM (ET)

MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) - A college student accused of shoving a pumpkin pie into the face of a shopping-mall Santa Claus has been charged with misdemeanor assault.

Clint Westwood, 22, said he "lightly smooshed" the pie into the man's face Friday and shouted, "What do you think of that, Santa?"

Westwood, a drama student at the University of Montana, said he videotaped the encounter and plans to include the clip in an upcoming film.

He said that after the pie ruckus on Wednesday, he expected to approach Santa for a signature on a film-release form, but police arrived first.

"It's a good thing he didn't wait around, because I think Santa would have laid him out," said Sgt. Travis Welsh of the Missoula Police Department.

Westwood said he and companions had waited for a girl about 15 years old to finish sitting on Santa's lap before the pie hit his face, "but then we just decided it would be funnier if she was still sitting there."

AT&T Closing Last Payphones At End Of 2008

AT&T -- or whatever company it is that's going by that name these days -- has decided to pull the plug on its pay phone business, over 100 years after the first coin-operated model was installed in Chicago. Currently, the telecom giant owns and operates public telephones in 13 states. With the number of pay phones having more than halved since 1998 -- due in large part to BellSouth's exit in 2001 -- AT&T clearly thinks that the sidewalk stalwart is at the end of its shiny metal rope, although it will continue to provide related services until the dial tones go silent at the end of 2008. While public reaction to the announcement has been mostly tepid so far, several groups have raised their voices in protest, most notably the Justice League of America, which calls the impending lack of changing stations "a national crisis."

TYLER, Texas (AP) - "Frosty" the snowman has been swiped. The 42-foot-tall inflatable holiday decoration was taken from a tree farm. Officials at Dixon Farms say Frosty, worth about $10,000, was last seen Friday night.

So far no arrests.

Lot owner Royce Wisenbaker believes Frosty was hoisted over a fence.
A $1,000 reward has been posted for the safe return of the towering decoration.
Frosty is described as a white male, sporting a red hat and scarf, with a pipe in his mouth.

COMPUSA rumored to be out of business in January.

They won't confirm it (http://tinyurl.com/2guenx)

I would not buy a blank CD or ream of paper there for fear I might have to return it....hence why they won't say they are closing in Jan.

Confirmed today that if you need it, don't go there.

The chain is sold to liquidation with the closing sales starting after the holidays.

Online companies like Tiger Direct, and NewEgg took their toll, but WalMart will be blamed somehow.

Old or not, cars need attention. This is especially true when you live in an area that goes through extreme temperature or weather changes. The folks at Advance Auto Parts were nice enough to send over this list of winter car prep tips for an online blog with no apparent copyright.

Stop taking your car for granted and give this a quick read. If anything, ask yourself when you last checked these items. The last thing you need is to get stranded on the highway with the family during the middle of winter.

Inspect your antifreeze while your engine is cold by using a tester to check the mixture for its freeze point. A 50/50 ratio means 50% distilled water and 50% antifreeze, which is sufficient in most climates, except in extreme cold.

Have your charging system checked for free at any Advance Auto Parts store. Cold weather starts make the vehicle battery work much harder and getting stranded in the cold is no fun!

Change your oil and oil filter. Clean, high quality engine oil goes a long way in protecting the motor in cold start situations. Use the oil recommended by the vehicle manufacturer.

Visually inspect all lights; marker bulbs, tail lights, third level brake lights, especially headlights and driving lights. Daylight savings time requires bulbs to work longer hours.

Tire Tread condition; check it yourself, or have it checked. Winter driving requires good traction in snow and ice. Quality tire tread sheds the snow, ice and road grime more quickly, providing better traction for improved safety. Check your tire pressure regularly, especially in colder temperatures. Follow the recommended PSI found on the driver’s side door post for maximum traction.

Visibility is key to your safety; make sure that your wiper blades are in top condition, to fully clear your windshield, and back window if the vehicle is equipped. Road salt and slush can jeopardize visibility. Use washer fluid containing de-icer and Rain-X Treatment on windows to avoid the chiseling of ice early in the morning.

Inspect your engine’s belts and hoses. Cracked, frayed or worn out rubber won’t stand up to temperature extremes. Don’t get stranded on your next trip because of a $10.00 belt or hose!

Replace the Cabin Air Filter if the vehicle is equipped. Outside contaminants from Fall and Summer driving are stranded in the cabin air filter and running the heater on “high” in the extreme cold only sends the micro-particles deeper into the vehicle.

Protect your vehicle’s paint. Rain, snow and salt are extremely tough on paint. A tough coating of quality car wax will add another barrier in-between road grime and your vehicle’s paint.

Last but not least, prepare a roadside emergency kit including a flashlight with fresh batteries, a blanket, food bars, water bottles, cell phone, jumper cables, flares, Fix-a-Flat, HELP Sign, and a first aid kit.

So really it's not that tough. Most of these things you can easily take care of in your garage or driveway. The point is DO THEM!

Bacon Topped Chocolate Chip Cookies

Bacon chocolate chip cookies-
(this is for a FULL batch)

3/4 cup butter
2/3 cup packed brown sugar
2/3 cup granulated sugar
1 teaspoon hazelnut (or almond) extract
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 egg
2 1/2 cups flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1 teaspoon salt
1 cup white chocolate chips
1 cup dark or semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups bacon bits (if preferred, you can separate the dough into two parts and only make half of the dough into bacon cookies, in which case you'll only want to use 1 cup bacon bits)

*An important note- Be sure to use real bacon bits, not Bacos. Also, you can make your own bacon bits, just make sure you pat down the bacon chunks with paper towels to remove as much extra bacon grease as possible.

Directions-

preheat oven to 350 degrees fahrenheit.

Beat together the butter, sugars, flavouring and eggs until creamy. In another bowl, sift together the dry ingredients. Add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture and stir together. Dough will be slightly soft. If you want a cakier cookie, add another half cup of flour. Add in chocolate chips and bacon bits. Stir until well integrated. Place dough on a sheet of waxed paper and refrigerate at least an hour. Remove dough from fridge, pinch off 1 1/2 inch pieces of dough and roll into balls. Set dough balls about 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Flatten dough balls slightly with your fingers in the center.

Bake cookies for about 10 minutes, or until the dough starts to turn golden brown. Allow cookies to cool on a cooling rack while you ready the glaze.

Maple cinnamon glaze-

2 cups powdered sugar
1 tablespoon maple extract
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 teaspoon cinnamon
enough water to make a thick glaze (I used about 3 tablespoons)

Mix all ingredients together until smooth and creamy. If lumpy, use a whisk.

Spread a small amount of the glaze on the top of each cookie and top with a small piece of crisp cooked bacon.

Mmmmmm, so delicious! (http://tinyurl.com/3y8mjx)

I think the Maple Glaze is too much!

Bacon Topped Chocolate Chip Cookies seemed to have been a typo when I first read it in the heading, but then I saw bacon was indeed in the ingredients; so it must have been accurate. I would have to trust you BOOM since posted this recipe on your thread. I would not have to worry about any regret spending the money on the ingredients since you personally stated they were "Mmmmmm, so delicious".

My dad's wife, gourmet cook, has refused to allow anyone of my dad's family to bring any dish to the Christmas Eve dinner she has hosted every year. This would only be my third Christmas Eve dinner with them, but I have been looking for something just like these Bacon Topped Chocolate Chip Cookies to score a few points with my dad's wife and maybe a couple with my aunts too (if you catch my drift). BTW, I would be the only one that could get away with bringing something to dinner, because we're buds.

Thanks for the recipe...I'll let you know how they go over with the family.

StarTrek.com Shutting down!

Curlsman writes to let us know that the fan site startrek.com, operated for 13 years by CBS, is being shut down and its staff laid off. Is this site worth a write-in campaign? From the (perhaps final) post: "Goodbye from the STARTREK.COM Team. Sadly, we must report that CBS Interactive organization is being restructured, and the production team that brings you the STARTREK.COM site has been eliminated. Effective immediately. We don't know the ultimate fate of this site, which has served millions of Star Trek fans for the last thirteen years. If you have comments, please send them to editor @ startrek.com — we hope someone at CBS will read them."

He stuffed an 18lb turkey with a goose, duck, mallard, guinea fowl, chicken, pheasant, partridge, pigeon and woodcock - producing a remarkable Russian doll-like dish.

But now his effort, inspired by recipes dating from Tudor times, has been dwarfed by a behemoth containing no fewer than 48 birds of 12 different species.

This massive roast, the proud creation of Devon farmer Anne Petch, weighs almost four stone (more than most airlines' baggage allowance), costs £665, and has enough meat to serve 125 people.

GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- A Wal-Mart shopper overstayed her welcome at the 24-hour store in Lilburn. Gwinnett County police escorted the shopper home after she stayed there for three days eating and sleeping inside the store.

Between the traffic, the congestion and the crowds -- spending more than 5 minutes at a Wal-Mart at this point in the game, makes up most Christmas shoppers' nightmares.

"It's my first time here but it's pretty crowded. There's a lot of people in there," said one shopper.

At the 24-hour Wal-Mart in Lilburn, police said a 70-year-old woman spent three days inside the store sleeping, shopping and eating at the on-site Blimpie.

"Three days in any store is a little crazy, but in a Wal-Mart...yeah," said a shopper.

Despite what most people think about such and experience, it is likely that because of all the shoppers, the woman was able to blend in with the carts, crowds and chaos and go unnoticed for 72 hours a week before Christmas. When asked by Wal-Mart employees why she was there for so long she simply said, 'I'm shopping.'

The woman was escorted home by police after she paid for her merchandise.

Santa Claus Cold Clocked in Sleigh on back of truck (http://tinyurl.com/32nydj)

(At Marti Gras they throw candy FROM the truck.....)

SPOKANE, Wash. -- A man dressed as Santa Claus was knocked unconscious by a thrown object that hit his face while he was riding on the back of a truck decorated as a sleigh.

Kevin Smith says he never saw what hit him Saturday. Whatever it was, it broke his nose and gave him a concussion and two black eyes.

"One second I was up there waving to people, and the next minute I wasn't," Smith said.

He was taking part in Santa Run, sponsored by the firefighters union, which features off-duty firefighters who dress up as Santa and ride through residential areas handing out candy to children.

Other volunteers realized something was wrong after they hadn't heard from Smith for a few minutes. They stopped the truck and found him lying unconscious.

"It pretty much cold-cocked him," fire Lt. Scott Himelspach said.

Smith awoke in the back of the sleigh.

"They thought I'd spilled my hot chocolate, but then they realized it was blood," Smith said. "The rest of the night was kind of hazy."

Smith, a firefighter for eight years, said he hoped to return to work on Christmas Day.

Assistant Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said an assault report was filed with police but that no witnesses have come forward.
