View Full Version : Police Standoff
Hey gang, I thought I would let you know that my wife is trapped in a local grocery store now. Apparently, some nutjob got chased by the police and he is in a standoff with them right in front of the grocery store. The wife called me, wanting me to come get her, but the police will not let anyone in or out of the area. The last report she gave me is that the sharpshooters have arrived, so it looks like this fella is gonna lose his life if he doesn't surrender soon. He is in his car and will not come out. The local elementary school is in lockdown status. I will post more as I know more. Be praying. Thanks.

Just got an update. Apparently, this person is a recent parolee. He got into some scrape with the police in Owensboro, and he shot two police officers. A chase ensued and here we are. My wife says they are trying to work out a plan to get everyone out of the store, depending on where their vehicle is parked. This is getting a little nerve wracking. Thanks for your prayers.

Your wife is in our prayers Rico.
She's on her way home now. They worked out some way to get some of the people out of the store and she was one of them. I will post more when I know more. At least she is out of harm's way! Thank you Jesus!!

Amen. Thank you Jesus for safety!
Ok. She's home now, but the kids are still in lockdown. At least they are far enough away from what's going on that they aren't in danger.
Here is a link to some video that was taken about 20 minutes ago. My wife says our van was parked close to the truck you see.

Just got off the phone with the school and they are releasing the students to their buses. The students who live in the immediate vicinity of the scene will have to be dropped off somewhere else.

I live in Rockport, where the standoff took place. Owensboro is about 10 miles from here.
Everyone is home now and the standoff is over. I don't know how it ended. Hopefully, this person surrendered.
This is just a rumor, so I don't know if it is true or not, but our neighbor said this man was on his way to kill his girlfriend, who lives in the apartments a couple of blocks from here, and he was going to kill his son, who goes to the same school two of my children attend. If what he is saying is true, this could have turned out much worse.
I have to leave for work now. I will give y'all an update when I get home.
Police standoff in downtown Rockport ends without injury
Associated Press - October 8, 2007 6:14 PM ET
ROCKPORT, Ind. (AP) - A gunman who holed up in his van in downtown Rockport after a police chase is in jail after he surrendered to police.
Indiana State Police Sgt. Chad Dick says William L. Rush, of Clover Port, Ky., surrendered peacefully about 4:15 p.m. after a standoff that began about 1 p.m.
Police were pursuing the man after a domestic disturbance when he stopped his van near a grocery store and refused to come out. Police say he was armed with a handgun. No one else was in the vehicle.
There were no injuries.
Rush is being held on charges of resisting law enforcement and a probation violation out of Kentucky.
Officials at schools in the town about 30 miles southeast of Evansville held students from going home during the standoff.

Thanks for posting this. I thought about finding something and posting it tonight, when I got home from work. The only thing that is not accurate in this report is that he was in a 4 door car, not a van.
I have not been able to find out any more details on this incident. The good news is no one was hurt.
