no one has to reveal if they choose not to phil. I didnt think the men would be quite so uptight about it.

I've actually gained some and a little larger than once was.

was wondering if folks gain more over the winter months and what they plan to do to shed it if anything

Well, I currently weigh about 10-15 lbs more than I really want to.

My method for getting to where I want to be? I just started going back to the gym every morning at about 6:30am and working out with free weights, sitting in the sauna and playing racqetball when I can.

Yep... we are all part Grizzly!:tease

I actually am battling the recent onset of sever insulin resistance and early onset Type 2 Diabetes. This lethal combination resulted in a sudden weight gain of over 40 pounds in less than two months. Since diagnosis I have been able to stabilize but not lose any of the weight. I am currently at the same basic weight as Berkley but in no way am I a blue denim whale-male.

My goal and target is to get back to my fighting weight of around 225# which gets me under a 36 inch waist while maintaining my barrel chest and tree trunk legs.:killinme :killinme

I don't mind sharing... of course, I've lost weight, so perhaps that's why!

I'm female, 5'5", approximately 149 lbs. (up from 143). I began eating lower carb in February 2005 & lost about 50 lbs., but during the Christmas season ('06), I began splurging (which I didn't think I'd ever do)... it was the Christmas Tea at my kids' school that did me in! I usually have a lot of will-power and refuse sweets, despite my intense "sweet tooth," but gave in to those Christmas cookies anyway.

When the Christmas cookies didn't seem to cause a weight gain, I decided that eating potato chips wouldn't hurt either - so... well... I'm now up 6 lbs.

THEREFORE, I'm back to strict low(er) carb again and plan to stick to that way of eating for life. I don't think I'll "splurge" again, as I prefer to be thinner & I just generally feel better when I keep the carbs/sugars low.

BTW, I opened this thread while eating some low carb chocolate, which I made:

4 T coconut oil (melted)
2 T cocoa
1/4 C Davinci's White Chocolate flavored (sugar free/Splenda sweetened) syrup
1/8 t liquid Stevia
1.5 T peanut butter

Mix all of the above well, spread on parchment paper, freeze - eat.

Tastes great, is low carb, curbs the chocolate cravings, plus I get the benefits of coconut. Can't complain!

This is great!!!

You might not be losing weight but you are gaining more muscle. I'm sure you feel better physically. Is your diabetes better? Keep it up!

Actually, I am not progressing well in my weight or my diabetes. To clarify my situation, I have been a workout and fitness fanatic for years because i am very aware of family tendencies for obesity and the associated ills like diabetes and heart trouble so I never was really unfit... just had a sudden unbelievable weight gain due to extreme insulin resistance and the onset of type 2 diabetes. Unfortunately, insulin resistance makes you gain weight in the abdomen and gluteal region which exacerbates insulin resistance which causes more fat retention in the aforementioned areas which causes more insulin resistance... you get the picture... I can't lose weight because I am insulin resistant and I am insulin resistant because I can't lose weight.

They currently have me only on glucofage for my T2 Diabetes and it is not really doing enough... my fasting blood sugar this morning while on the medication was 161. The past 7 days it has averaged about 145. Normal is between 70 and 90 and prediabetic is 91 to 120 or 125. Anything over 125 is considered full blown Type 2 Diabetes.

I meet with my doctor on the 19th and I am hoping that at that time she will add other medications to try to get the sugar under control. I am already suffering from Diabetic neuropathy (numbness, burning and real pain) in my feet and hands. I don't want this to get out of control.. they say the problem comes when you no longer feel the numbness, pain and burning....

I appreciate your interest, encouragement and most importantly your prayers!

This always cracks me up. I work out at the YMCA and they actually have a poster on the wall that says "muscle weighs more than fat"...

I pointed it out to the director and he argued with me for a few minutes before the concept of density, volume and mass finally soaked in.

IN their March poster, it said it correctly... muscle is denser than fat and therefore the same weight takes up less volume resulting in less mass!:ty

I currently have gestational diabetes - I truly feel for you!!! I am praying that I do not develope T2 diabetes when I get older. It must be a pain!

Yep! You have to get out of the golf cart, grab a club, and swing...hoping it doesn't end up in the woods where you have to walk around trying to find it. Then you have to walk back to the golf cart, sit back down, and drive close to where you hit the ball.

Imagine doing this for 18 holes! It will wear you out! :killinme

I was somewhat like that with my first. I gained a TON of weight and it was mainly fluid, i lost my weight quickly. However I started out weighing about 20 pounds more when I got pregnant this time than when I get pregnant the first time. And I am just now starting to swell in my legs - it's not too bad yet.

I currently weigh 193.6 and am 5'5"

However, the fact that I have actually lost 86.4 pounds in the last 9 months, makes me pretty proud of where I am. :bliss

I'm going to save your blog and visit it...I am assuming you have outlined in the blog how you did it?

My all-time high was 240 pounds back in 2004, then I went down from 230 to 195 pounds and I looked good there, but think my ideal weight would be 185. Then I slowly made it back to around 205...went on a cruise with my wife last spring and put on around 10-15 pounds in one week (I totally violated all my rules)...from there on it has been a down hill shame...and now I am around 5 pounds away from my all time high...I refuse to go out and buy new clothes to fit me...so it is do or die for me. I need to get back under 200...

Anyway, the hubby is just jealous cuz you look fantastic! :highfive :heeheehee

Hey, Thad...I completely understand where you're coming from. I, too, have been thin my whole life and started gaining and had to have clothes let out. It's so frustrating, and people who have always had a weight problem don't understand how freaked out skinny people get when their clothes don't fit. (5 ft 9, climbed to 177 pounds!) I found the greatest weight-loss product. It's called "Kathy Smith Walk Fit" -- it's CDs where you walk to the beat of the music (instrumental) for 30 minutes. She starts out slow, speeds up till you feel like your legs will fall off, then cools down. It's incredible.... I'm already down 20 pounds in the past few weeks. I have two weeks left until spring break and I intend to hit the 25-pound mark by that time. I intend to get back to my svelt 145 before summer.

I feel your pain, hon! :highfive
