Clean the house? I'll give it to you, you are as creative as they come. You'll have a great career as an Apostolic pastor.

How is a coin careless?

Man you are a pentecostal preacher for sure, the Scripture is like putty in your hands.

That's just plain silly there is nothing that indicates your take on the parables nothing at all.

That's twice you have beat me to it.

Those who have believed a lie think alike! :thumbsup

Still trying to figure out where Rob was going with all that bologna. Hmmm... passive-aggressive?

Yea guess it goes with the sloppy grace that we dish out.

It has been so long since I have listened to that kind of silly preaching it is kinda fun for a few minutes...and then you realize they are serious.

Gimmie someone preaching without an agenda of their own, desiring only to stick with the Word, and be obedient to the Spirit which is always in alignment with the Word. I am not looking for some new revelation. The Word is sufficient enough in revelation!

Think?

When the pastor speaks you don't think, you nod your head and shout "amen."

Leave the thinking to those who can interpret the the story to say 100 different things.

The Coin...was lost because of carelessness...maybe a little laziness...maybe apathy...if her house was clean she wouldn't have lost the coin. The solution to finding it was cleaning the house. That's the job of the 5 fold ministry...of which I am a part.

As far as my strange and twisted interpretation of the text..."Non-Apostolic Pentecostal Matthew Henry" came to the exact same conclusion along with several other commentaries...but I'm sure you've got a better handle on :grumpy

Pay close attention I will show you how us greasy grace folks do this...

first we start with the text...

Luk 15:8 Or what woman having ten pieces of silver, if she lose one piece, doth not light a lamp, and sweep the house, and seek diligently until she find it?
Luk 15:9 And when she hath found it, she calleth together her friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the piece which I had lost.
Luk 15:10 Even so, I say unto you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner that repenteth.

Hmmm nothing in there about carelessness....

Wait what is that verse 10 says about a sinner...

So under your interpretation God is a woman and He is careless...maybe you should write a book and call it the log cabin or the shack or something.

That's not even the point of the parable, Rob! Sheesh!

We were, and are outside of the grace of God, lost! We don't have to clean our house. He got himself dirty, rummaging through the floor and filth to find us. That's the story!!!!!!!

Yes, strange and twisted indeed.

Matthew Henry -- via copy/paste:
Quote:

In the parable of the lost piece of silver, that which is lost, is one piece, of small value compared with the rest. Yet the woman seeks diligently till she finds it. This represents the various means and methods God makes use of to bring lost souls home to himself, and the Saviour's joy on their return to him. (Lu 15:11-16)

The disrespect shown to Pastor McKee here in this conversation is disturbing. Keep preaching it, brother! Keep standing for uncompromised truth!!

Luke 15 has one theme... "Lost-Ness"
3 Characters...
  • Lost Sheep
  • Lost Coin
  • Lost Son

3 Reasons For Being Lost
  • Sheep = Lust (wandered away)
  • Coin = Carelessness (House got dirty)
  • Son = Rebellion (Didn't want to live under Daddy's control...Nobody's going to tell me what to do)

3 Responses from the Pastor
  • Sheep = Drop everything...grab them and drag them back
  • Coin = Clean the House
  • Son = Watch and wait for some sign of return...then celebrate

The story of the elder brother is a note to the text...aimed at the attitude those who remain. There is no "elder coin" or "elder sheep" so it is probably not the central message that Jesus is trying to convey in this obvious grouping of the same subject.

The story of the Elder brother IS important. It's possible to live for God and be faithful yet have the wrong attitude and not celebrate when someone who's gone through a time of backsliding...comes back home. Just as a test to this scripture...Socialite...try it next Sunday Socialite and see if there's any "elder brothers" in that church you left. (Said in jest...don't be angry). Better yet...drop into POK...I'll buy you a burger after church.

:happydance

Excellent words, Brother McKee!
