I wasn't necessarily talking about I Cor 11 in this instance, but the authority or position of a man and a women. I believe Brother Epley is focusing on the submission, which I am going with.
I would have to think that a pastor has some authority over both in spiritual matters as he leads and guides. I mean, the NT is placing and appointing positions - bishops, etc. Any set up of that nature, whether spiritual or secular, takes on the nature of authority for the one in that position.
I believe there is a balance to be had on our submitting one to the other, but the Word does say that a women cannot usurp a man's authority. That's pretty plain, IMO.
