Things have been revealed to me about myself that I never thought were true. I have been going through hunger, restlesness, pressure and learning like never before; hinging on the word of God and words of saints. My failures surround me and I am developing a more keen awareness that God is not an option, but the only possible way for me to retain my life. Worship is harder to come by and I go part-of-the-day by part-of-the-day. I am leaning on elder saints who are prayer warriors to uphold me because my life is in a state of seeming disrepair- financial distress, family problems, uncertainty, unemployment, regret, struggle...But I believe God! He will get me through this! I have heard his promises and he has spoken to me much over this time. Even when I wake up in complete fear, or when friends don't speak with me, or I feel loss of hope- He has taught me that he is in these places, and has dominion. So even though I failed, and my heart condemns me...God is greater!

...when, or if you ever go through this type of valley, then revisit the issue of how long the hem of your pants should be.

Sorry to hear you're going through all of that. I think we've all been there a time or two. I hope and pray all works out and you're victorious. Honest. With that being said, I'll take your last statement of revisiting the issue as "there are other more important things to work through in life." Others may have a different take, but that's just mine...

I have only read the first post and a couple more in this thread but I wanted to let Unitedpraise know that the situation is clear. He is just rebellious. How dare him question "standards". It is his role to just shut up and follow them. To expect logic or a Biblical foundation for them is just a trick of the devil to cause confusion.

Yes that was what I meant...The overall perspective changes in adversity. Thank you Dagwood for your prayer.

Why is questioning so bad? Besides that, I have a right to question anything. Just like if you were in school.....you have the right to ask questions. Simple. Modesty is scriptural, and should be sort of a common sense deal....I believe that.

Read this article I found, and tell me what you think....:heeheehee

...examining the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so (Acts 17:10-12 NASB).

That tells me we have every Biblical right to examine what "these things" are. If examining means asking questions, I'm no stranger to doing that and won't be afraid to do it...

I think its time you all ready Matthew 23. Jesus talks on this subject quite a bit.

Follow the law of Moses, and none else. That's what he taught.
The Pharisees were making stricter and stricter laws of living, that one could not logically follow ever letter of it. However, the laws of Moses were easy.

For example. Remember the Sabbath and keep it holy. Simple. However, the Pharisees make some many rules and regulations on it that they even judged Christ's Disciples for picking corn as they traveled through a field.

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you clean the outside of the cup and the plate, but inside they are full of greed and self-indulgence. 26 You blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and the plate, that the outside also may be clean.

LOL the point was, when that "doctrine" came about of teaching to no wear shorts, they were the extremely short Shorts. We are not talking knee length, we are talking where the male genitalia is almost on display. That was the sports attire of the early to late 40's.

Are today's current male shorts modest? You know the ones that go past your knees? Sure. I would not be offended.

I think you guys on both sides take information a skew it.

You're right, have you seen the reruns of some of the 70's NBA games, the players are all legs!!! Today's are much more decent and better taste by a long run.

Okay, so why can't I wear shorts, well let me rephrase....why is it looked down upon when I wear them. What's the justification (scripture, etc.). Women can now where their skirts clear up to their knees, with their legs showing (and no panty-hose). Why can't I wear shorts, when I'm out running and excercising, or when I'm just out in general. It doesn't make sense!

We've let out guard down on so much already, why not just go the extra step farther and ourlaw the shorts rule.

Ok, just to disclaimer....I'm not bitter, I'm not mad, and I wear shorts! k:thumbsup

Just for the record, knee length was popular back in the 60's and 70's, I know because I wore them.:happydance
