I would just say that Jesus told the disciples that it was necessary for Him to go away so that the Comforter would come, which is the Holy Ghost. We talk about the death and burial a lot, but we don't really focus so much about the resurrection. He had to go away so that he could come and be in us. That is the "earnest" of our inheritance. I want my inheritance. Hey, after all we've been through, I want something out of this, right? :heeheehee |
Re: 25 Year Anniversary
One more thing. I stand on the doctrines of Christ found in Heb. 6:1-2. One of the doctrines is the laying on of hands.
I personally received the HG after the evangelist and pastor placed hands on me. I was just a child, 5 years old, and when someone told me I could have the gift, I wanted it. The visiting evangelist laid his hands on me, the pastor's daughter and the evangelist's daughter (all three of us were at the altar together, and we were all about 5-6 years old), and all three of us received within minutes of each other that night. I will never forget it. My daughter who was about 9 years old had been seeking the HG for a long time... every camp meeting, altar call, special meetings - she was there seeking. And people would come and tell me that she had received the HG. But, when I would ask her about it, she would deny it, and truly, I never saw that remarkable change in her life from receiving that gift. So I told her to keep on seeking. One night we had a visiting evangelist and his message wasn't one I remember and yet, there was my daughter up at the altar, all by herself (I was playing on the organ) and it was just me and her. I was playing, she was praying. Everyone had left, it was just us. I finally got of the organ, and went down beside her. The pastor came in to shut the lights off and close up the building. He saw us there, and came up to the front. He saw the earnest look on her face, and knelt down beside her. He stopped her from praying, made her look at him, and said "Do you believe you can receive?" She said "Yes". He said, "I am going to lay hands on you, and you are going to believe and receive". She said "Yes". He laid his hands on her head, and INSTANTLY she bellowed out in the gift of tongues in the most powerful and incredible language I have ever heard. It was so loud and powerful that folks standing outside the building rushed inside to see what was happening. We had a powerful praise time before the Lord, and it was as if all the glory of heaven had come down to us there and we all were worshiping and praising God. It was something no one who was present will ever forget! Laying on of hands.... yes. I think perhaps that has been overlooked as a key element of receiving the gift. Believe, and you shall receive. It is a gift, after all. Gifts are not earned, they are given, without merit. |

Your story about your daughter is one that I see a lot. She needed someone to show her that she had enough faith to receive the Holy Ghost, and when she had that simple faith, she received it. So, people could say your daughter was tarrying, but it was really a faith moment that she needed. My daughter's story is the opposite. When she was very young (6), she spoke in tongues very quickly and a few short, quiet words. Everyone around said she didn't receive the Holy Ghost, but she did. I saw a change in her, but I didn't tell her she had the Holy Ghost either. I don't recall the time frame between that night and when she spoke in tongues for about 30 minutes, but it was then everyone said she had the Holy Ghost. Gotta hear it really loud. LOL! No, you don't. |

So awesome for your daughter... and you are right sometimes the gift takes a while to feel free and unhindered. |
