Re: Acid reflux

Thanks for all the advice! I took some over the counter generic acid stuff before I read this, but will keep in mind.

Just curious - I lost 40 lbs last fall and never had trouble before with this. Does weight cause this type of problem, and how? I still have plenty to lose, so perhaps that will help :)

I'm in the States for 2 more days so I can still get some "American" medicine if I need to :)

Lose weight, don't eat before bed and change your diet to whole foods. I find refined carbs and sugar does it to me.

Why don't you try eating an apple before you take medication. It's more healthy! :D

Refined foods and sugar are of the devil! I better put a smilie or people will think I'm serious! :toofunny

Drink 100% Aloe Vera, Fractionally Distilled Lidquid from Aloe Vera Leaves.

It is the best I have tried. Taste like water, looks like water. Can find at the health food stores.

Take a bottle of 100 Pepcid with you.

That and drink six gallons of Aloe laced Black Strap Molasses - if you are so inclined. LOL!

Re: Acid reflux

I had this for years. I had it so bad that I used to get it so bad that my throat would swell up and I would choke on foods a lot. Once I lost a lot of weight it subsided quite a bit. I still get it occasionally, but I don't eat much meat which did affect me, but I do eat lots of tomatoes and spicy stuff that don't affect me. Sometimes some dairy does it to me too.

Re: Acid reflux

Hard core prescription Nexium works for me :). 40mg per day or I'm in bad shape. These other tips certainly help, but a lot of it is based on stomach positioning and physiology. I have a hiatal hernia that makes it worse. I'm not overweight, by the way. If you already have the symptoms, take something like Pepcid to neutralize the acid. The others are pump inhibitors that need lead time to work.

Diet is a big factor though as many have said. Late night eating makes things much worse.

A low carbohydrate diet has worked for a few people I know.

If eating at night, don't go to bed right away. It's better to eat earlier in the
evening.
Sometimes if I felt the pain coming on, I would drink a small amount of Pepsi and
it would help. Not eating chocolate and tomato products (spagetti, lasagna, etc.)
especially at night and then not going to bed right away, does help. I know.

It may have come on due to travelling or a change in diet while travelling. I used to get this while asleep and would aspirate the acids. Not a pleasant thing. Then it left when I cut much of the stress out of my life.
