My MIL was a food hoarder for many years. Going to her pantry was like going on a treasure hunt... she would shop at the canned food outlet and get great deals, but who knew there was raspberry flavored tuna? :ursofunny

we got in to a discussion about what we ALWAYS have in our pantry or fridge... (besides things like eggs and milk)

In our house we ALWAYS have-

Tortilla chips
cheese (both block and shredded)
Salsa
sour cream
(DO YOU SEE A NACHO THEME)

Chili
Hot Dogs
French Fries (in the freezer)

It is quite ironic, because I am a pretty good cook, and we rarely resort to chili dogs for dinner, but the hubby and kids always know that are there...

So what can be counted on to be in your fridge, freezer, or pantry?

Good old fashioned Wisconsin Cheese Curds...

I can identify with that.
My list was based on what you can't live without ----I didn't include the pantry since this has all of my "bargains". Suffice it to say that due to the quantity of canned goods and only 2 in the household .....it would be possible to "forget" things.
I keep a permanent marker on the shelf. I date every can or box.
It's necessary to avoid waste. :foottap I do my best to rotate, but this keeps things in line.

I LOVE the cheese curds from A & W! When we used to live in Oregon, we would go to the Bandon Cheese factory and buy the curds, they melted wonderfully!

Now I settle for Sam's (Walmart) shredded cheese or Berkley and Jensen (BJ's) Brand.

If I am feeling rich, I will spring for Cracker Barrel, but I eat that by itself, I would never desecrate perfect cheese by shredding it!

Kraft Macaroni and Cheese. Always get the "deluxe" so milk and butter aren't required, like ten boxes at a time.

As long as that is in the house we will survive comfortably.

oh and bacon. sometimes I mix the two together.

and coffee... I have a Kuerig machine and a big drawer full of assorted k-cups. Mac n cheese, bacon and coffee. true staples...

Not an extra weekend but fun days off mid-week :thumbsup

My job involves a 4 week rotation--therefore there are weeks with cool schedules.

Week 1-- Sat off Sun off then Mon-Fri work
Week 2-- Sat work Sun work Mon off T-W-Th work Fri off
Week 3-- Sat work Sun work M-T work W-TH off Fri work
Week 4-- Sat work Sun work M-T off W-Th-F work ( back to S-S off )

Repeat

This week was the "bad" week with 7 in a row/ not same pay period

Tomorrow starts week 2

There are day and night shifts; I work more day hours; 1-10 is the "night" shift.

After 4 1/2 years, I'm used to it! :ursofunny

While I do not drink coffee (but can still use it in other recipes), I could live a happy life with the ingredients on this list.

The only things I would ADD:

Water
Extra Virgin Olive Oil (doesn't matter the brand)
Soy Sauce
Misc shell fish (shrimp. lobster, clams, crabs, mussels, etc....) I will assume that "meat" includes fish and chicken as well as beef.

I bought my Keurig about two months ago. I am really enjoying it!

Just curious, of those who do own one, have you used your own coffee in the "My Kcup Reusable coffee filter"?
Also, I see offered water filters that are inserted in the water chamber. Has anyone purchased these and is it needed?
