I think what tv1 is trying to say is that....about 10 years ago...what Larry Carter does now would have never been allowed. If someone would have walked in and heard him on the guitar doing his "thang" he would have been talked about and sent to packing. However, things have changed and he is able to use his gift in a way that was not (for lack of a better word) "accepted" 10 years ago.

I do not think he is talking bad about Larry Carter. I think he is stating a point that is valid. In no way is it a "slam" against him.

In reality, there were, and still are, quite a few churches that wouldn't/won't give LC the time of day because of his style. However, if all that is being implied is that folks are more lenient now than they were back in the day to David Huff...then sure...I can agree with that...that has to do with an overall relaxing with that style of music, though...I don't think it has to do with a particular person.

I don't really think that's what tv1 was referring to, but he can correct me if I'm wrong. :tiphat

I wouldn't say a "slam", but it read to me like an implication that he only got where he is because people in power did him favors. To me, that's insulting. Maybe I'm just being over-sensitive. :coffee2

As for comparing him to David Huff...well, look, becoming well-known and "usable" (to churches) is a matter of choices. It's a matter of what avenues you take to get there, and whether you make sure you toe the line. It seems to me that LC has played by the rules, and DH didn't. Not that DH did anything wrong...he just did it differently. His choices led him down a different road. I don't know that I buy into the statement that LC is more successful than DH. I think they are pretty equally successful in different arenas.

I remember when Larry Carter first started out with the McGruders in 1989/90. I used to love to hear him tear that guitar up and I still do. The audiences used to always want him to play. Im a Fanatic.

I never suggested LC didn't have talent. I believe there were some who made his path smoother sailing. There's nothing wrong with finding favor with the right people.

Exactly...and there are a lot of people out there with talent that never make it that far
