Sister Coonskinner, Did you purchase that wonderful dessert at the market pre-fabricated, then take it home and warm it in the microwave oven??

No sir, I did not. I made it all here at my house, using a cake mix as the base. Everything else was done from scratch.....ie caramels, butter, evaporated milk, cho. chips.

It was pretty good.

This is like the one I make - can be made with chocolate cake mix too (my fav)!

Turtle Cake

12 servings 1¼ hours 15 min prep

1 (14 ounce) bag caramels
5 ounces evaporated milk
1 box German chocolate cake mix, with pudding (the one that uses oil)
3/4 cup butter, room temp
12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate chips
2 cups pecans, chopped

Heat oven to 350*.
Line 13x9 pan with foil and lightly grease the foil.
In small saucepan, slowly heat caramels and milk stirring until melted.
Prepare cake, using only 1/2 the oil called for.
Beat on low 1 minute, add butter, beat on hi 2 minutes.
Spread 1/2 the batter in pan.
Bake for 13 minutes.
Pour caramel mix over cake; spread to edges.
Sprinkle with 1 cup choc chips and 1 cup pecans.
Spoon remaining batter over; spread to edges.
Bake for 40 minutes or until cake puffs up around the sides of pan and springs back when touched.
Set the cake on a wire rack to cool.
Melt remaining choc chips; spread over cooled cake; sprinkle with remaining pecans.

Good stuff, but oh so rich.

I made one of these this evening and it was so rich, it almost made me sick. My husband and son and Nate Bassett loved it, so I guess it was pretty good.

Since I can't grill anything for a while, I guess I"ll just have to bake, huh.

Yummmm...that sounds good!!! That reminded me that we forgot to make the peach cobbler that I had bought the Blue Bell homemade vanilla ice cream to eat with last Saturday.

You will be pleased to know that we rememberd the next day though! LOL!!

Isn't PETA going to throw a fit about cakes being made from poor little turtles?

Mmmm. this sounds so good and I got so excited - I forgot to put paper in the printer when I went to print it out!! I'm definately making this for the next potluck I have to go to.
