I also love the new group NickelCreek. A group of young people who are simply unbelievable on traditionally bluegrass instruments. They are in the mold of Allison Krauss and Union Station.

Scott, I enjoy Bluegrass music myself. When I was a teenager I loved to tune into WWVA and listen to Flatt & Scrubbs, and other Bluegrass artists. In Chipman we were blessed to have The Phillips Family, an outstanding and popular Bluegrass group in NB. Matter of fact, Erdie Phillips, the father is a member of the NB Country Hall of Fame. He and his brother Ray are credited with pioneering Bluegrass music in NB many years ago.
We had a Bluegrass Festival in Chipman the last few summers I was there and I was the local pastor chosen to organize and preach at the Sunday morning worship service at the campground bandstand. I always enjoyed this. I have fond memories of special Christian Bluegrass nights we had at our church. It was usually packed out. I rather enjoyed singing Bluegrass with some of the guys. I usually sang tenor and played the guitar. One of the couples in the church hosted a New Year's party each year and that was a regular bluegrass jam session that we always looked forward to. Talking about all this makes me a bit homesick for those great times of fellowship. |
Brother Marlow Shubert plays a mean banjo.

I think banjo music IN SMALL SPURTS is alot of fun. I wouldn't want a steady diet of it. But when someone plays really well, you have to admire their talents and abilities.

My wife's dad is a master wooodcrafter.
He is is 82 and is woking on about his 85th banjo that he makes from scratch. They are beuatiful works with unique sound. He is also a blue grass fan. Two years ago we did a "Bluegrass Sunday, with all our music in the bluegrass style of southern gospel. We had 45 vivsitors. |
I am from Kentucky 50 miles from Rosine what do you think? And do know BM personally or did.:tease

We had a family in the church we pastored back home who were quite well known in the blue grass genre of music. They played at the Old Opry in Nashville years back and made a number of recordings. In fact the town that we lived in ... I think most everyone there played a guitar. LOL. Country and blue grass was huge in that town so I gained an appreciation for the music but it's not what I choose to listen to. :) I appreciate many different kinds/styles of music. |
