People shouldn't speak to their pastors about personal issues they're dealing with in their lives?

I don't see where he revealed anything that's all that personal. If she looks to him as a spiritual guide in her life, and calls on him for advice, I don't see why it's such a breach of confidence for him to say that.

Besides, maybe she doesn't mind people knowing she speaks to him. I see no indication that she's upset what he said; so if she's not bothered by it, why should I be?

Discussing it with the media just doesn't sit well with me...unless he was expressly asked to. In that case, it just doesn't make sense to me.

Just goes to show that many Pastors do not understand the concept of 'confidentiality'. They seem to always have the best interest of the saint in mind;)

Only if it relates to a spiritual problem. All other things should be directed to a person, or persons one can trust to hold confidentiality and you can explore thoughts and feeling that will not be used against you at the Pastor's convenience.:friend

Disclaimer: My opinions are not the opinions of the administration or moderators of this forum. They are the opinions of a woman who has experienced more than her fair share of 'issues' with 'religious' people/organizations, & churches. Trust is a sacred thing. I have learned this lesson the hard way myself. I have not always been trustworthy and have disclosed information that I shouldn't have when it benefitted me. The exception to this is in the role of a licensed counselor. I am ashamed of past behavior and am working on my 'issues'.

I think that part of the issue is that trust has to be earned and the trustworthiness of an individual should not just be assumed no matter their position or title. It's kind of like "respect" in that way.

I don't see this as a negative - at least not yet. I think Palin knew it might get leaked and perhaps wanted just that.

I don't think she wanted to appear vulnerable. I think she thought she was asking for sound spiritual advice. It is just as easy to think the best as it is to think the worst, isn't it?

Blessings, Rhoni
