OH MY WORD!!!! I think I just realized how I know this guy.......
He now has his profile set to private. ..... Must do more reasearch now...

Steve Epley 10-22-2007 09:49 AM

Marvin Hicks told me personally that CG had the best affirmative argument of any debator he had ever heard. His rebuttals were not top notch but his affirmatives were over the top. But it always seemed to lack conviction to me personally. More from the head not the heart.

aquestioninggirl 10-22-2007 09:56 AM

Did he debate a lot? If is the guy I think it is I was really good friends at college with his sister and her roomate was in love with him. He was actually the one who got her into church.

I mean top notch. He weaved his complete speech into his affirmative. Never saw that done before it was very effective all from memory. However his rebuttals were a little weak.

Do you still debate ? I have always wanted to go to one of those

I had never heard of debates until his sister started telling me about all the debates he was doing. Then when I joined FCF I realized it was a common thing.

It has been a few years. I have not heard of one lately. Although I jhave had negociations for two debates but the timing was bad or some other complication came up. I have enjoyed them.

Never made any innuendos that his present lifestyle was approved by them. I'm actually surprised that you thought I had... I see nothing remotely implying that I did.

My humble apologies. I misread your intent....not hard to do in forum life.....I've done it before and had it done to me.....I am truly sorry. I usually try to be more careful then that and will be so in the future.

He was a pretty good debater...Jeff and I attended the one in Joplin...my impression was, that, the Church of Christ minister left madder than a hornet, and I thought, "What good is this doing, really?" But I suppose that was more about debates in general.

Carpenter 10-22-2007 12:31 PM

Jesus understands the gay lifestyle because HE was never married to a woman, and called the church HIS bride, and MEN ARE IN THE BRIDE????

I hope this guy loses a month of sleep with horrible nighmares of consuming dragons, beasts, and a firey eternity.

Thad 10-22-2007 12:35 PM

someone mentioned that he may be related to Ron Garrett in Phoenix ??

anyone know ??

Nope, just that most of the oneness Gay churches are pastored by ex-UPC guys. At least the ones in the group that I know of. They are also closely aligned with Carlton Pearson now.

However, four of the guys that I went to Bible college with are dead of AIDS, as well as my vice-president. Many many more are now living a gay lifestyle. I do think that they are drawn to a legalistic system, because the boundaries give them hope of keeping their tendencies under control. At some point though, unless they have been delivered completely, many of them end up acting upon those tendencies anyway.

Sounds like the reason the Catholic Church may have the issues it has been dealing with, that and not allowing the priests to marry.

HELLO EVERYONE!! This is my first time on here..actually didn't know about it... I am Christian Garretts former mom in law and I can answer your questions.
NO, HE IS NOT KIN TO ANY OTHER GARRETTS THAT YOU KNOW. His name is Stone by birth, he was adopted by his step dad in later years, hence the Garrett name.
He was only UPC for a very short time and went kicking and screaming into it then. He only did it because the church he was pastoring at the time was UPC.

bcarolb 10-22-2007 02:33 PM

He was married to my daughter for 10 years and they had a marvelous ministry. Say what you will...they saw many many souls saved.
They do have 4 children and for all those concerned about the suffering inflicted on all of us, the children are the ones who have suffered the most.
We adults at least know where to lay the blame. The kids blame themselves

He is saying in this sermon that he is now working for Jay Baker

Yes, he is working for Jay Baker. Jay has been a really good friend to him during all his transition. He was also good friends with his mom, Tammy Faye.

Sister, welcome, I can only imagine what your family has been through. I have had close friends go through this kind off situation, and I know how devastating it can be to EVERYONE involved, especially the children.
