The last 6 weeks is where they will evaluate my handling a full patient load. If they feel I'm competent, I'm on my own. I'm evaluated every two weeks from the onset. I'm pretty excited. I've been a LPN in long-term care for three years, and although I'm moving into an acute care situation, having four patients instead of 24 seems like a no-brainer! LOL! Of course, having been through the program and having done a 6 patient load during my transition clinicals, I'm well aware of how much different it is, so I'm not thinking it's a breeze. I take my job seriously. How do you like peds? I'm not into kids, so peds and maternity is out...LOL! |

Now, I could do things privately, but would be limited within my scope of practice, which would be more on a CNA level. I could NOT practice as a nurse on my own as I'm not licensed here. MAJOR violation, and it could cost me my license for doing so. I don't know what the laws in TX are, but I'm thinking they violated the law in doing what they did. If the state found out, I'm sure the agency as well as the nurse would have been in hot water. However, the state of TX participates in the NLC, which means they are a group of states that allow nurses from other states to practice without having a TX licensure. If that nurse came from one of those states, she was perfectly legal. Wisconsin is also one of those states, but Illinois is not. If Kentucky wasn't so far away, I could get a job there and start right away, as they are in the NLC also. With gas prices though, it would kill me, even though it's about 60 miles one way. I apologize, as I don't mean to undermine your help, because in other circumstances it would be quite helpful, so don't stop trying to find solutions. ;) In fact, the HR person I have been working with told me yesterday that if I wasn't able to get back to WI, let her know and she would start me out as a LPN. I looked at her and said, WI license, remember? She hit herself on the head in a V-8 moment, forgetting that even though I went to school here, I took my boards and have been licensed only in WI. Monday is the big day for me. I hope to find out only good news. Thanks again, my friend. You are great. |

And I'm sure I'll like it better, but change is difficult for me. It was nice going to work and knowing all my patients and having a plan of action that rarely changed! Pass meds, feed them, put them to bed. That was it! But being a hospital nurse is what I've always dreamed of becoming. I feel like I've finally growned up! |
Re: I need you guys to help me!
Just an update...
I called HR this morning to confirm the licensing issue and was told that I indeed could start work as soon as I mailed off for my license transfer. However, I was told about 20 minutes later that this is only true for those in this state who already took the boards (which makes no sense because if I took the boards here, I'd already be licensed and able to work). Anyway, I was told to go to Springfield and personally hand in my stuff and tell them I need results in 24 hours, and they can usually do that. I've been calling all morning to see if that indeed is possible, but only getting a busy signal so far. My job is working with me to start me ASAP, and I'm about in frantic mode. However, I know God is in control, and His timing is perfect. I'll let you know any other info as I get it. Thanks for praying! |
