The figure also does not put away filth from the flesh ... or wash sin (figuratively) according to the Preacher at Pentecost.

That preacher already said what effectuates the blotting or washing and when it happens .... at repentance:

19Repent, then, and turn to God, so that your sins may be wiped out, that times of refreshing may come from the Lord,

You still have to be baptized, Danny. No matter how many paragraphs you type, you have to be baptized to be saved. And it still says that the act "doth also now save us". Faith and believing are accompanied by obedience.

Yes, you still need to be baptized, but your sins are remitted at repentance. It's what the word says.

Luke 24:47 says, "And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem."

That is in harmony with Acts 2:38 "Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins

As I stated, we are trying to compartmentalize the things of God when they should be working in harmony.

I, initially, sat down to advance a video I was listening to and clicked over here. I don't have more time to be bogged down. I have to finish cleaning my refrigerator. It's almost empty and it's a great time to clean it. :thumbsup LOL!

Are you separating remission of sins from forgiveness again PO,... Jesus said the obvious ... repentance and forgiveness (aphesis) of sins would be PREACHED in His name ... not the invocation of His name effectuates forgiveness at baptism..\

The use of kai in Luke also is a point of interest as it is not always used in the way we use it in English ... as a conjunction of two distinct things.

Danny,
Forgiveness and remission are both "aphesis" in the Greek - pardon, deliverance and forgiveness. How can I be separating them when they mean the same thing?

Asking, PO because many of your heretical friends make such a distinction... once again we must use the secret decoder ring and force the issue that Jesus was speaking of a properly administered baptism, along with baptism, effectuated forgiveness/remission/aphesis.

Simply said ... he said ... what he said ... the adding to the Word is where you guys move into heterodoxy and heresy.

Well I guess the thief was lost...(and don't say it was before Jesus died)...

BTW, the Mikvah was standard practice in Jewish antiquity and would have been natural for Peter to suggest it. The mikvah was established under the Pharisaical and not Mosaic law. You can't even find baptism as we know it today in the bible. Under Jewish tradition, one must be cleansed before entering the temple, Mikvahs were a type of religious baths or a precursor to our modern bathtubs in the church...only rich people had em in their homes.

If you wanted to be a purist, the mikvah must have natural running water to it; which is understandable because people were dirty...including women in menstruation who were ordered to "wash".

Peter did not have the full understanding of Grace, it would take the Apostle Paul to deliver this to the gentile church. Peter was still operating under the old covenant assumptions and was not able to make the journey to grace as easily as Paul.

Baptism is a Christian sacrament, done through love as we walk in communion with Christ.

This is just the facts.

practically every conversion in acts was followed by baptism. the problem is we are trying to pinpoint when salvation happends.

I still think the best example was the conversion of saul.

God opened His eyes up spiritualy on the road to damascus. He fasted for 3 days and was praying. I am sure during that Time he was repenting and was asking God for Forgiveness.

But even before he got to that Point. He was already Justified, because he believed in Jesus, and He showed His belief by being baptized. a few days later.

same with us God openeds our eyes as sinners, we come into a understanding of Jesus and we Belive/ justified and because of those beliefs, we change direction. (we have our own road of damascus) were God guides us by the hand. and with the faith we already have recieved we begin to act upon that faith.

same as the thief on the Cross, That was His road, his eyes was opened and with what faith was Given. He believed changed His ways,, condemend his sinful deeds and ask for God to remember Him.
